TLC made the announcement yesterday its reality show Jon & Kate Plus Eight will re-launch this November 2 to become more succinctly Kate Plus Eight. The show will continue to focus on the eight Gosselin children, taking also a closer look at their mother Kate Gosselin, now single. The network will still have an exclusive relationship with Jon Gosselin and he will occasionally appear on the show, though less frequently. TLC additionally said it is in the development stages on a new project featuring Kate for 2010. PBS debuts a second season of national lifestyle series Moment of Luxury this Thursday at 730p (check local listings). The series, with 13 half-hour episodes, features award-winning international designer Bill Stubbs as he interjects comfort and luxury for any American budget encompassing home design, food, culture and art. The series is shot in hi-def and is presented nationally by WLIW in association with WNET.ORG. E! introduces viewers to Shayne Lamas, daughter of Michele Smith and Lorenzo Lamas in the new half-hour reality series Leave it to Lamas on October 11 at 1030p following the season debut of The Girls Next Door at 10p. Some television viewers will be familiar with Shayne as she appeared recently on ABC’s The Bachelor: London Calling receiving the final rose and marriage proposal from bachelor Matt Grant. Still single, the series follows Shayne where she lives in Los Angeles as she juggles her promising acting career, dating and handling her over-the-top family. The series is produced by Mike Fleiss and Warner Horizon for E!. AMC set the premiere date for its original miniseries The Prisoner, a revamped version of the 1960s cult classic for November 15 at 8p. The six-part mini will air with two back-to-back episodes over three consecutive nights at 8p each evening. The Prisoner stars Jim Caviezel in the lead role as Six; Ian McKellen as the sinister though appealing Two; Ruth Wilson as 313; Hayley Atwell as 4-15; Jamie Campbell-Bower as Two’s son 11-12, and Lennie James as 147. AMC is also giving TV viewers a chance to watch all 17 episodes of the original 1960s The Prisoner on full screen at www.amctv.com . Additionally, the episodes of AMC’s mini will be available on-demand the day after the linear premiere with specific cable operators. Former CBS anchor Dan Rather’s $70 million lawsuit against CBS was thrown out by a New York Supreme Court appellate division. The court’s 5-0 decision to dismiss Rather’s case was released yesterday, stating there was “no legal merit” in Rather’s claim that CBS had damaged his earnings ability following his departure from the network in 2006. Rather left the network after criticism mounted over a controversial 60 Minutes II segment which aired in 2004 about President George W. Bush. Showtime’s season premieres of Dexter and Californication last Sunday set records for the premium network. The 9p season four debut of Dexter became the highest single telecast delivery for Showtime since 2004 at 1.52 million total viewers, which is also a +25% gain over the season three premiere. At 959p, the Californication season three premiere delivered 821,000 total viewers, up +57% over the program’s season two premiere. NBC Universal Global Networks made a first-run programming deal with Warner Bros. International Television Distribution (WBITD) involving three of its new US series, V (18 x 60m), Human Target (13 x 60m) and Eastwick (13 x 60m). Under terms of the agreement, WBITD’s programs will make their debut in the UK on the SCI FI and Hallmark channels. Furthermore, NBCU acquired the ongoing pay TV rights to the drama Smallville, currently airing on The CW. The series V, Human Target and Smallville will all air on SCI FI UK and Eastwick will be added to the schedule on Hallmark Channel UK. Public television station KCET, serving Southern and Central California and Charter Communications announced V-me is now available throughout Southern California on Charter Digital Cable. V-me offers a combination of original content, exclusive premieres and acquisitions and public TV shows adapted for the American Latinos. ~ PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT ~
BBC Worldwide is teaming with Impossible Pictures Limited (IPL) and ITV to produce 13 new episodes of the series Primeval for air on BBC America and broadcasters that have acquired the series worldwide. The series’ original co-production partners of ITV, ProSieben and BBC Worldwide will co-fund the new episodes with BBC Worldwide as the majority financial source. In the new arrangement, BBC Worldwide will receive a full co-production credit and UKTV will also become an investor for the first time. The new run will continue to be managed by showrunner Adrian Hodges and stars from the previous seasons, Hannah Spearritt, Andrew Lee Potts and Jason Flemyng will return as well as the program’s special effects created by Framestore CFC. E1 Entertainment is working with Shawn Piller, Lloyd Segan and Scott Shepherd to develop and produce a new television series titled Haven, based on the novella The Colorado Kid by Stephen King. The thriller with 13 60m episodes will be produced and distributed globally by E1 Entertainment. Shepherd will be the showrunner on Haven while Segan and Piller will serve as executive producers along with E1 Entertainment’s John Morayniss and Noreen Halpern. Writer Sam Ernst and Jim Dunn will also executive produce with Adam Fratto as co-executive producer. NBC has a new family-focused in-studio game show called Perfect 10 on tap for US audiences and for the international marketplace. The game encompasses 10 seemingly simple games that must be completed by contestants in 60-seconds or less each in order to win the $1 million prize. Universal Media Studios in association with Friday Television is producing eight 60m episodes and the format will be launched at MIPCOM next week. Prior to going into production, 50 games will be available at nbc.com and via on-air promotions for viewers to test at home. The official rules of each contest will also be posted on the show’s website. Breakthrough Films & Television was commissioned by TELETOON Canada to produce a new family comedy for primetime titled Crash Canyon. Thirteen 30m episodes have been ordered from Breakthrough who is working with Joel Cohen, co-executive producer on The Simpsons and the series creators Jam Filled Entertainment. Crash Canyon is about the Wendells who take a nose dive off a cliff and end up in a canyon where they can’t escape. The Wendells meet other odd people living together in a community they created called Crash Canyon. here! Networks will debut a television newsmagazine program next year based on the publication The Advocate, the world’s leading LGBT news source. Styled similar to 60 Minutes, The Advocate television program will have the print publication’s Editor in Chief, Jon Barrett hosting each episode with The Advocate’s Senior Editors doing on-air reports, profiles and investigative segments. Pre-production on the TV program has started and in addition to premiering on here! Networks in 2010, the show will be available via Advocate.com and Gay.com. Jason Priestley will star in a new comedy titled Meet Phil Fitz co-produced by E1 Entertainment, Amaze Film and Television and Big Motion Pictures which will air on the Canadian domestic pay TV networks Movie Central and the Movie Network, cites THR. The 30m series, centering on used car salesman Phil Fitz will be shot in Halifax, Nova Scotia and is slated to debut in 2010. Sheri Elwood wrote the script and executive produces. Kevin Zegers was tapped for a multi-episode run on The CW’s Gossip Girl. Zegers character, Damien is an international playboy/bad boy and love interest for Jenny Humphrey played by Taylor Momsen. Casting Call: FOX’s unscripted series Hell’s Kitchen featuring celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay is searching for chefs to appear in the show’s eighth season. CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: After a 9-month dispute Warner Music Group reached a newly expanded licensing agreement with YouTube that will bring WMG content back to the service as early as the end of the year and take advantage of new systems designed to monetize user-uploaded tracks and mash-ups. Under the terms of the deal, Warner will be able to create its own specific channels for artists and sell its own ad inventory around them, utilizing YouTube’s Content ID authentication technology to verify tracks. The partnership covers the full Warner catalog and includes user-generated content containing WMG acts. Unlike YouTube’s deal with Universal Music, which will revolves around the stand-alone Vevo site, the deal pertains only to videos and music distributed on the core YouTube site. CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Disney Publishing Worldwide launches its new kid-targeted online effort Disney Digital Books, a new subscription book service that offers kids an interactive way to experience books ($79.95/year, $8.95/month). At launch the site will offer 500+ Disney book titles across three different reading levels (beginning readers, ready to read, chapter books) and various genres, which users have the option to read and/or listen to online. Among the other features users will also be able to use the Story-Builder feature that allows kids to create and share stories, personalize their My Place area and explore an age-appropriate dictionary that has audible definitions.
