Zoinks!  The premiere of the original mixed live-action/CGI animated movie Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins, Sunday, September 13 from 7-9p, on Cartoon Network is now the most-watched telecast in the network’s history among Total Viewers P2+ (6.1 million), K2-11 (3.0 million), K6-11 (2.2 million), Tweens 9-14 (1.8 million), as well as specifically with Boys 2-11 (1.9 million) and Boys 6-11 (1.5 million), according to preliminary overnight Nielsen data.

MORE KIDS STUFF

9 Story Entertainment secures a second season for its live-action kid/tween -targeted reality series Survive This from YTV (Canada).  9 Story is currently in production on 13×30 new episodes.  The first season of Survive This has been picked up by Cartoon Network (US), Cartoon Network (Latin America), YLE (Finland), SVT (Sweden), Noga (Israel) and Teleview (Middle East).  9 Story will showcase Survive This and its slate of new and returning kid and tween series at Mipcom.

Target Entertainment Group heads to Mipcom where it will features the K6-9 aimed animated series Horrid Henry (104×11, 52 of which are new).  Based on the Horrid Henry books, the series is produced by Novel Entertainment for CiTV and ZDF.  Target will also showcase: Collingwood O’Hare’s short-form animated series Yoko! Jakamoko! Toto! (52×5); Emu (52×15), the live-action/puppet series produced by Initial Kids and The Gibson Group; and the 2D animated preschool series Fluffy Gardens (40×7, or both seasons 80×7)  produced for RTE (Eire) by Monster Animation.

MARKETING/LICENSING

This week marks MGA Entertainment‘s launch of BFC , Ink., a new doll line featuring a group of five characters, each with their own personality and background story.  Designed to underline the importance of being part of a supportive group of friends and working together, each BFC, Ink. (Best Friends Club, Ink.) doll comes with various fashion items and interactive journals.  There are two different BFC, Ink. categories within the doll line, the BFC, Ink. 18-inch dolls and BFC, Ink. Fashion Dolls.  Each doll comes with outfits, accessories, a BFC, Ink. Book and lock and key and a special membership card, which can be used to unlock game content online.  Additionally, there will be a tween-targeted line of fiction books, written in journal format, tied in with the property that produced in partnership with Parragon Publishing.  The publishing effort also provides girls with various tools to create their own club with titles such as BFC, IN. Club Kit.

Seattle-based I Can Do That! Games enters into a multi-year licensing partnership with Cookie Jar Entertainment to develop games based on the Richard Scarry brand.  The first title under the deal, Richard Scarry’s Busytown Eye found it! Game releases this month.  The preschool TV series Busytown Mysteries debuts on Cookie Jar TV, the Saturday morning programming block on CBS, this Saturday morning.

Atlantyca Entertainment inks a multi-year licensing deal in Italy with Panini for the new animated series Geronimo Stilton.  Under the agreement Panini will launch its line of Geronimo Stilton-themed sticker collection, sticker books, sheets and albums simultaneous to the premiere of the series on Rai (Italy) next month.  The deal runs through March 2012.  Based on the Geronimo Stilton kid’s chapter books, the animated TV series is a co-production with Moonscoop.

Nickelodeon and Viacom Consumer Products (NVCP) completes deals in Germany with confectionery company Valora Trade Germany, which will produce branded lollipops and bubblegum featuring Nickelodeon programs and characters.  The lollipops will be available across Austria, Germany and Switzerland.  Meanwhile, NVCP UK

Hit Entertainment and Pleasurecast, the attractions unit of Bandai Namco Group, team for the opening of Thomas Town Shinmisato, an indoor Thomas-themed entertainment attraction, in Japan this week.  Featuring five themed areas including a ride and craft and educational areas and a cafe, Thomas Town Shinmisato opens its doors tomorrow at the new Lala Port Shin Misato shopping center, which was formerly the Musashino Railway Shunting Yard.

EXECUTIVE MOVES

Ludorum appoints Maureen Taxter to the newly created position of SVP/US Consumer Products. She will report directly to COO, Charlie Caminada.  Taxter, who is based in NYC, is responsible for all Ludorum’s commercial operations in the US, with specific attention to its CGI animated preschool series, Chuggington, which will bow on the Playhouse Disney block in spring 2010.  A 25-year industry veteran, Taxter has toiled in senior roles at Jim Henson Productions, Hasbro and Viacom, the latter where she led development of Nickelodeon’s consumer products brands, moving on to oversee Brand Management, Retail and New Business Development for Nickelodeon, Noggin and Comedy Central consumer products.

Atari appoints Philip Veneziano as its CFO.  He will report to CEO and President, Jim Wilson.  Most recently, Veneziano was VP/Finance, TheLadders.com Inc.  He previously served in a range of financial management positions within News Corporation, Everest Broadband Networks, Juno Online services, American Sky Broadcasting and Lifetime Hoan Corp.
