CBS handed a renewal order to the police drama Flashpoint for 13 new episodes slated to air later this season. Flashpoint was originally an import from Canada and developed by CTV and Toronto-based Pink Sky Entertainment. The series was produced in collaboration by Pink Sky, Avamar Entertainment in association with CBS Television Studios and CTV. Flashpoint, airing in both the US and Canada, stars Hugh Dillon, Enrico Colantoni, Amy Jo Johnson and David Paetkau as a group of police officers working in the Strategic Response Unit.

Bravo is serving up more of its popular The Real Housewives franchise as the network picked up The Real Housewives of D.C. as a series and renewed The Real Housewives of New Jersey for a second season. Both series are currently in production and both are scheduled to premiere next year. The Real Housewives of D.C. is produced by Half Yard Productions LLC and The Real Housewives of New Jersey is produced by Sirens Media, LLC.

Award-winning national public television series Chefs A Field came back last month with a fourth season featuring new hi-def episodes shot in locales coast to coast from Hawaii to Mexico’s Yucatan jungle. The show follows some of the best chefs in America as they visit local farmers and fishermen learning about eco-friendly foods then watches as they prepare dishes using the fresh ingredients. Chefs A Field is produced by Warner Hanson Television with co-producer KCTS Television in Seattle. The series is distributed by American Public Television. Check local listings for exact air times.

Alli, the Alliance of Action Sports said the new series The Alli Show will debut on MTV2 this Saturday at 11p. The Alli Show profiles the six sports making up the Alliance: skating, BMX, moto, wake, freeski and snowboard. The series also looks at the main athletes involved in each sport, showcasing their lifestyles and personalities. VBS, VICE Media’s broadband TV network produced the series. Subsequent episodes air Saturday nights on MTV2 at 11p.

Smithsonian Channel premieres the epic six-part series Apocalypse: The Second World War on November 11 at 8p. Coinciding with this year’s Veterans Day, the network opens this one-hour series, narrated by Martin Sheen, showing never-before-seen footage from WWII filmed by those who witnessed the war first-hand. The series is produced by CC&C Louis Vaudeville and France 2 in association with Smithsonian Channel.

Recent Premiere and Finale Episode Results:

  • BIO Channel’s original series Celebrity Ghost Stories premiered Saturday night at 10p becoming the most-watched series debut in the network’s history in both total viewers and key demos. The one-hour series premiere drew 220,000 A18-49, 246,000 A25-54 and 388,000 total viewers.
  • On Sunday night, Food Network opened a new season of The Next Iron Chef which became the network’s highest-rated, most-watched series debut in its history. The Next Iron Chef delivered a 1.1 A25-54 rating and attracted more than 2.1 million total viewers.
  • HBO reported the season finale of Entourage last Sunday at 1030p drew in 2.5 million total viewers. Also of note, Curb Your Enthusiasm posted its best performance in five plus years Sunday night, attracting 1.6 million total viewers at 10p.
  • On E!, the season finale of Kourtney & Khloe Take Miami Sunday at 10p gave the network its most-watched first season finale in 7+ years, averaging more than 2.6 million total viewers. Additionally, at 1030p the first season ender of Reality Hell at 1030p averaged almost 1 million total viewers.
  • Monday night’s three-hour finale of telenovela Manana Es Para Siempre (Tomorrow is Forever) on Univision reached more than 11 million total viewers who watched all or part of the conclusion as well as averaging 2.4 million A18-34 and 2.9 million P12-34, overall making Univision the #2 broadcast network for the night among all viewers, not just Hispanic. The finale also delivered an average audience of 7.3 million total viewers and 4.1 million A18-49.
  • On ESPN, Monday Night Football’s Minnesota Vikings vs. Green Bay Packers game delivered the largest audience in the history of cable TV and the highest rating in the network’s 30-year history. Monday’s NFL game posted a 15.3 rating equal to 15.1 million homes or 21.8 million total viewers.

TV Land picked up the primetime broadcast rights for the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond from CBS Television Distribution. TV Land will have access to all 212 episodes spanning eight seasons and will air Everybody Loves Raymond starting June 2010. Other recent TV Land acquisitions for 2010 include Boston Legal and Home Improvement, both premiering in first quarter and The Nanny, premiering in third quarter.

~ PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT ~

Recently it was reported actress Helen Hunt might replace Maura Tierney in the NBC midseason drama Parenthood. Per EW, discussions with Hunt and the network didn’t work out and the role of Sarah has now apparently been offered to former Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham.

Casting Call: Food Network is seeking experienced chefs for its culinary competition series Chopped. The network is looking for dynamic, outgoing and skilled male and female chefs of any ethnicity and cooking specialty to apply. ~ ELSEWHERE IN CYNOPSIS ~

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  Just because Google CEO Eric Schmidt sits on the Apple board it doesn’t mean he can’t see other people. The internet software giant announced a new partnership with Verizon Wireless that will result in a brand new version of Google’s Android mobile OS, optimized for the Verizon network. (Can You Hear Me Now, iPhone?) Verizon says it plans to launch its first Android handsets in the coming weeks (not specifying which manufacturers.) With a base of over 85 million users in the U.S., support from Verizon should give a huge boost to the nascent Android platform. Meanwhile, Microsoft launched version 6.5 of the Windows Mobile OS, set to power a plethora of new smartphones including the HTC Pure and Tilt on AT&T and the Samsung Intrepid on Sprint. The new Windows OS is going after both business and casual users with two new key services, “My Phone” and “Windows Marketplace.” My Phone helps people back up and manage photos, applications and other content while Windows Marketplace is Microsoft’s version of the App store.    Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.    

CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Southern Star Singapore, Southern Star Entertainment (Australia) and Nord Deutscher Rundfunk (Germany) unveil their US$9million international co-production of A gURLs wURLd (26×30), a tween-targeted live-action series supported by the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) and Screen Australia, Australia’s film and TV agency.  The series will be distributed by Endemol Worldwide Distribution, and is set to premiere on ARD Network (Germany) and Channel Nine (Australia).  Shot in part on location in Singapore, A gURLs wURLd is a multi-platform property that will feature unique content and virtual communities online for fans around the world created by Southern Star Singapore and Southern Star Entertainment.  The series revolves around three teen girls, one each from Australia, Germany and Singapore, who become friends while attending school in Singapore.  At the end of the term the girls return home and find that through technology they can transport them via a chat room portal to one another’s home and thus a range of adventures.  Full edition: CYN KIDS.

Saturday A18-49 Analysis: ABC was the victor Saturday night posting a 2.5/8 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen Media Research. ABC’s College Football double header won at 8p with a 2.2/8 followed by the double Cops episodes on FOX averaging a 1.7/6. ABC gained headway at 9p with a 2.6/9 while FOX’s AMW: America Fights Back came in second with 1.5/5. ABC surged even further ahead through 10p with a 2.8/9 while CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery and NBC’s Law & Order: SVU tied for #2 at 1.4/4 each.

At 7p, FOX charged in front with The OT at 4.9/15 while NBC’s Football Night in America Part 2 and Part 3 averaged a 2.4/7, CBS’ 60 Minutes placed third at 2.2/7 and ABC ushered in a new season of America’s Funniest Home Videos ranking fourth at 2.2/6. At 8p, NBC’s Football Night in America Part 3 and the kick-off of the San Diego vs. Pittsburgh game averaged a winning 5.3/15 and FOX’s sitcoms The Simpsons and The Cleveland Show averaged a strong second place with 4.4/11. NFL action on NBC dominated the 9p hour with a 7.9/19 with ABC’s Desperate Housewives holding down second place at 5.0/12. CBS won at 9p with a 4.6/11, the average of comedies Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory while ABC’s Dancing with the Stars held steady in second position at 3.6/8. During 10p, CBS won the time period with CSI: Miami at 3.9/10 and #2 was UNIV’s finale of Manana Es Para Siempre at 3.4/9 with ABC’s Castle in third at 2.2/6 and NBC’s The Jay Leno Show in fourth at 1.5/4.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Fox International Channels (FIC) advanced Sharon Tal Yguado to SVP/Content Development and Jason Simms to SVP/Global Acquisitions. Both executives work closely together to manage facets of global content across the FIC group. Sharon is based in Los Angeles while Jason is based in London.

Starz LLC promoted Bill Bergmann and Jim Urick as VPs/Finance where both will work on behalf of Starz Entertainment and Starz Media. Bill and Jim each report directly to Scott D. Macdonald, EVP/Finance and Accounting, Starz LLC. Their job duties include budgeting, planning and internal reporting functions across the Starz properties.

Nicole Romanik was appointed to the newly created position as VP/Business Development at BBE. Nicole is charged with supervising and increasing the publisher network, negotiating upfront deals with publishers, cultivating client relationships among other duties.
