Answer to Yesterday’s Trivia Question: The first televised NFL Game was 70 years ago on 10/22/39. Interestingly, there were no commercial breaks, but there were breaks in the telecast. Why were there breaks, and what was the solution? The game was aired on NBC and it was the Philadelphia Eagles losing to the Brooklyn Dodgers, 23-14. While there were 13,050 people in the stadium in Brooklyn, only an estimated 500 viewers watched the game on television in New York on NBC’s W2XBS. Others saw the game on TVs at the World’s Fair in the RCA Pavilion. According to Allen “Skip” Walz who was the NBC play-by-play announcer, “It was a cloudy day, when the sun crept behind the stadium there wasn’t enough light for the cameras. The picture would get darker and darker, and eventually it would go completely blank, and we’d revert to a radio broadcast.” Kudos to: Bob Brewer-Opus 3 Artists/NY; Steve Kurtzer-Zimmerman/Ft.
