~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

ABC handed frosh drama series The Forgotten a five-episode pickup and also cancelled frosh series Eastwick. Both series are produced by Warner Bros. Television. ABC additionally is foregoing its five-episode series Let’s Dance slated to debut November 23 following the recent news Kathy Griffin was set to host. The network was apparently having a hard time casting celebrities to participate in the dance competition show during the holidays. ABC will instead fill the time slot with the new reality series Find My Family from RelativityREAL and RDF USA.

Nielsen reports television viewing by Americans (Persons 2+) reached a record high during the 2008-2009 TV season with an average of four hours and 49 minutes per day spent watching TV. This total is up four minutes compared to last year and up 20% from 10 years ago. Furthermore, the average household watched an average of eight hours and 21 minutes per day, another record increase. Primetime viewing per day was flat compared to last year though it is still at its highest level since 1991. Nielsen says the TV viewing increases may be due to more TV sets existing in homes, Americans have more channels and content to choose from and DVR usage is also on the upswing.

TBS’ Monday night premiere of late-night talk show Lopez Tonight at 11p, simulcast also on TNT and truTV reached nearly 3.2 million total viewers; 1.0 million A18-34; 1.8 million A18-49; and 1.6 million A25-54 viewers. Just on TBS, Lopez Tonight tallied 608,000 A18-34 and 1.0 million A18-49 viewers. The three-way combined network simulcast was sampled by more A18-34 and A18-49 viewers than the season-to-date average for NBC’s The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman. Lopez Tonight, hosted by George Lopez, airs Monday-Thursday at 11p on TBS.

The CW will premiere new series Life Unexpected January 18, replacing Gossip Girl in the short-term to retain original episodes on Monday nights, reports THR. Following the Life Unexpected run, Gossip Girl will be back for 12 more episodes.

Food Network typically showcases the world’s best chefs and cooks, though in the network’s upcoming new series, Worst Cooks in America, the opposite will be true. Food Network debuts the new series January 3 at 10p where 12 cooks, deemed the worst in the country, will be split into two teams training with either Chef Anne Burrell, host of Food Network’s Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, or Chef Beau MacMillan, executive chef at elements restaurant in Phoenix. Each team is trained in various culinary skills then tested in a series of high-level challenges. The recruits will be eliminated each week until two are left to face the final challenge. The winning contestant, revealed during the finale on February 1 at 9p, receives $25,000 and upholds the professional chefs’ reputation.

truTV takes on football in the new series NFL Full Contact, premiering February 8 at 10p. The upcoming series will take fans behind the scenes of professional football, from draft day to the Super Bowl. Produced for truTV by NFL Films, the series gives exclusive access to the action off the field including key people and their jobs involved with the NFL.

Tennis Channel opens a second season of Tennis Channel Academy on November 15 at 630p with tennis champ Tracy Austin returning as host. In the new season, Austin will focus on seven new coaches leading up to the final Best of Tennis Channel Academy: Backhands edition. Series episodes will also be repeated on Tennis Channel during its run.

Science Channel unveils new original series Sci-Fi Science: Physics of the Impossible on December 1 at 10p. The network is teaming with author and theoretical physicist Dr. Michio Kaku exploring such sci-fi theories as time travel, force fields, parallel universes and more. The series is based on Dr. Kaku’s book Physics of the Impossible and is produced for Science Channel by ITV Studios.

Planet Green announced the US television debut of the UK drama Burn Up is scheduled for December 6 at 9p. The two-part conspiracy thriller, starring Bradley Whitford, Neve Campbell and Rupert Penry-Jones, originally airing on BBC2 and was written by Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire, The Full Monty).
