~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

At the PBS Showcase, the annual meeting of local PBS station heads, PBS announced extensive changes are coming soon to its flagship broadcast and digital news product, The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. Beginning mid-September 2009, the news program will sport the following changes:

  • A name change to PBS NewsHour
  • The nightly broadcast will transition to a dual anchor format with Jim Lehrer remaining as executive editor and primary anchor regularly joined by senior correspondents Gwen Ifill, Judy Woodruff and Jeffrey Brown in-studio. Other PBS NewsHour senior correspondents Ray Suarez and Margaret Warner will concentrate on out of studio reporting.
  • PBS NewsHour will hire a new online correspondent to bridge the gap between the online news operation and the nightly broadcast. This position will post 4-5 minute video news updates throughout the day online as well as anchor the news summary on the PBS NewsHour broadcast.
  • Furthermore, the news program will receive an on-air makeover with a new graphics package that will translate to the digital platform and offer a new web site design with additional sub-sites created around the personalities of the various correspondents.
  • And lastly, PBS NewsHour will partner with other public media content producers nationally and locally such as FRONTLINE and NPR among others to gain added perspective for its reporting and analysis of events as well as delivering content to a larger audience.

VH1’s debut of Charm School with Ricki Lake Monday night at 9p delivered a 1.4 A18-49 rating and attracted 2.3 million total viewers. The series is produced by 51 Minds Entertainment, LLC an Endemol Company.

FOX pulled the remaining episode of Sit Down, Shut Up from its schedule following a 0.7/3 posting among A18-49 from this past Sunday at 7p, cites Variety. The 30m animated comedy is not expected to return to FOX’s lineup and an encore episode of King of the Hill will air in the 7p Sunday time period instead.
