Cynopsis: Kids!

03/04/09

Good morning. It’s Wednesday, March 4, 2009, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

The East High Wildcats return in Disney Channel‘s High School Musical 4 (HSM4).  With production on HSM4 set for later this year, the movie is scheduled to premiere on the network in 2010.  This time around the story features a love triangle while a cross-town school rivalry wages with the West High Knights.  Peter Barsocchini, who wrote the previous three movies in the HSM franchise, two for Disney Channel and the third a feature film, is writing HSM4.  Now word on casting for the new TV movie, but based on every interview everywhere the stars of the original cast gave over the last year, who appeared in HSM 1-3, it will be a pretty much all new cast of kids.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Muhahahahahaha!  Cartoon Network US premieres Nerd Corps Entertainment‘s animated comedy League of Super Evil (26×30) this month.  The series will air four times a week, with new episodes debuting on Monday evenings.  Additionally, Nerd Corps is producing 30-second shorts tied to each episode for use as bonus on-air content of evil.  League of Super Evil (a.k.a. L.O.S.E.) is also set to bow this month in Canada on YTV, the UK on CBBC, Jetix in Latin America, and in France on Canal+, Canal J and Gulli.

Weta Workshop‘s new preschool HD series The WotWots (52×10) is set to have its worldwide premiere on TVNZ’s (New Zealand) TV2, Monday, March 23 at 8:50a.  The show will then debut on ABC TV’s (Australia) ABC 1 at 8:25a and ABC 2 at 12:45p, where it will air weekdays from Thursday, April 16.  ABC TV and ABC New Media will launch a WotWots website (www.abc.net.au/wotwots) on March 9.  The series has also been acquired by Five (UK) for its Milkshake block and MTV3 Finland.  The show follows the adventures of the WotWots, two space alien siblings, who come to explore the planet Earth and land in the middle of a zoo.  The WotWots is produced by Pukeko Pictures and made at Richard Taylor’s Weta Workshop.  Pukeko Pictures is a new partnership between Taylor and author/kid’s TV creator, Martin Baynton.  Taylor and Baynton previously teamed to create Jane and the Dragon.  Hasbro is named as the toy licensee for the WotWots and will introduce a range of plush, figures and play-sets in Australia and New Zealand in September 2009.  Hasbro will also serve as licensing agent for the property in Australia and New Zealand, with plans to launch the licensing program, including novelty publishing and apparel in July and September 2009 respectively.

Super RTL (Germany) acquires the Free TV rights for TV-Loonland‘s family-aimed CGI animated series Leon (52×3).  Super RTL plans to air Leon in Germany in late 2009.  A co-production between TV-Loonland, Studio Hari (The Owl), and broadcaster France 3, Leon is a slapstick comedy about the adventures of an unlucky lion.  The series has also been picked up by CBBC (UK) and France 3, which is expected to deliver by holiday 2009.

Decode Enterprises inks new international sales for The Adrenaline Project.  The Adrenaline Project is newly acquired by Cartoon Network Latin America for its Boomerang channel, as well as by M-Net (Africa) and Solimac SDN BHD (Malaysia).  Decode Enterprises handles the worldwide TV distribution rights for The Adrenaline Project. Created by marblemedia for YTV (Canada), The Adrenaline Project is currently in its second season.
