After 54 years, CBS canceled the long-running daytime drama As the World Turns. The soap will air its final episode in September 2010. Procter and Gamble’s TeleNext Media, producer of ATWT, said in a statement it is looking for a new home for the show. Brian T. Cahill, SVP/Managing Director at TeleNext Media said, “We are proactively seeking a new outlet to carry the show, and are open to exploring innovative formats and relationships that will enable the future success of ATWT.” In the meantime, CBS will likely replace ATWT’s daytime time slot with a talk show or a game show. During its storied 54-year history and 13,000+ episodes, ATWT won 58 Daytime Emmy awards and also launched the careers of such notable actors as Dana Delaney, James Earl Jones, Parker Posey, Meg Ryan and Marisa Tomei. ATWT, created by Irna Phillips, premiered on April 2, 1956 as a half-hour soap, expanding to a full hour in 1975.

Today’s Trivia Question:  Who am I?  Well, I’m a spy.  Let’s just put that out in front.  Here are a couple of my more notable lines – let’s see if you recognize them:  “My friend has a trick brain. Sometimes when he tries to use it, it falls out on the floor.” … “I’ll have a shower and a shave and once gain I will be your alert, clean-cut, clear-eyed, government-issue Captain Marvel.” … “If the President calls, tell him you don’t speak English … and we defected.”  Who am I?   (Email [email protected] with your answer and be sure to include your name, company, city and time zone.
