Fox Cable Networks made a deal with DIRECTV and Verizon FiOS to make FUEL TV On Demand available to viewers, with 10 original hours of action sports programming each month.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

HBO and Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Films made a multi-year exclusive agreement to develop and produced scripted television content for the network. The projects could encompass miniseries, movies, documentaries and series.

FOX approved a 13-episode order for Glee, a musical comedy series from Ryan Murphy (Nip/Tuck, Popular). The 60m series, featuring a soundtrack of popular songs, is about an energetic high school teacher, Will Schuester (played by Matthew Morrison) who is charged with bringing back the McKinley High School Glee Club to its winning glory days by encouraging a group of misfit students to compete in the Nationals. Glee, premiering next year, is produced by Ryan Murphy Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television.

New for Fox Reality Channel is the original series Househusbands of Hollywood, a nine-episode series opening August 2009. The one-hour series produced by Marilyn Wilson Productions, Inc., focuses on the lives of five men who run the households while their wives hold high-powered jobs. Marilyn Wilson, Lisa Bernstein and Scooter Pietsch are executive producers and co-creators. Actor/screenwriter Charlie Mattera, who devised the concept based on his own life will also serve as executive producer and co-creator.

MTV introduces a diverse slate of new reality series set to debut in first quarter 2009. Also new for the network next year will be a two-hour primetime block on Sundays starting at 9p. Details of the new projects are:

  • How’s Your News? – based on a collection of humorous short films directed by Arthur Bradford, this series will use a team of reporters who travel the U.S. in a custom tour bus chronicling their experiences. In addition to man-on-the-street segments, the series will feature musical performances, celebrity interviews and the team’s adventures.
  • Daddy’s Girls – series centers on sisters Vanessa and Angela Simmons from Run’s House as they move to Los Angeles to launch a West Coast office for their tennis shoe and apparel line as well as Vanessa’s acting career.
  • The Girls of Hedsor Hall (wt) – twelve loud-mouthed party girls will travel to England to live in a finishing school, Hedsor Hall to become proper ladies. Former Miss USA Tara Conner is the school’s visiting instructor. Trump Productions LLC and RDF USA will produce the series, based on the UK RDF Media format Ladette to Lady which aired on the ITV network in 2006.
  • MTV’s Untitled Performing Arts Reality Project (wt) – series created by Nick Lachey and Colton Gramm follows talented high schoolers from Cincinnati’s School for the Creative and Performing Arts as they pursue dreams of fame.

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  Mac fanboys will have a hole in their social calendars from 2010 – Apple announced that next month’s Macworld conference in San Francisco will be its last. They can no doubt blame the success of social networking, blogs and other digital mediums that make it much cheaper for the company to keep its community abreast of new developments. CES for one should be happy; Macworld has been held at the same time as the consumer electronics confab for years, drawing the Mac faithful away from Las Vegas. Further, Steve Jobs has declined to give the keynote to the last Macworld. (Prepare for reports of Steve’s declining health to begin flying around the net …)  Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.
