Two Current TV reporters, Laura Ling and Euna Lee who had been detained in North Korea since March have been pardoned and released by that country’s leader Kim Jong-Il. Former President Bill Clinton arrived in North Korea yesterday to help negotiate their release and the women will be allowed to leave with him. Ling and Lee were producing a report for Current TV about North Korean refugees escaping to China when they crossed the China/North Korean border and were arrested by a military patrol. In June, both were sentenced to 12 years of hard labor. The Society of Professional Journalists has been following the story since Ling’s and Lee’s capture, said they are “pleased” with the news of the journalists’ release. “This is great news that these two American journalists have been released,” SPJ President Dave Aeikens said. “We are sorry it took so long for North Korea to do the right thing and we are grateful to former President Clinton for his involvement.”

This day in History:
1924 – In the New York “Daily News” debuted the comic strip “Little Orphan Annie,” by Harold Gray.

Answer to Yesterday’s Trivia Question:  Ross Geller’s son Ben believes Santa Claus doesn’t show up for Hanukkah because Santa’s mad at him.  So Ross, Chandler and Joey end up getting character customs to cheer up Ben for the holidays. What was Joey’s costume?  SUPERMAN.  Ross was an Armadillo.  Kudos to: Scott Gedney-ESPN/Bristol; Kelly Ward Hand-Nancy Glass Prods/Philadelphia; Jay Vincini-FKQ/Clearwater; Kristen Sauer-tba/TNT/truTV/Atlanta; Bryan Wallace-HKS Inc./Dallas; Lauren Grady-Brand Media/Dallas; Cynthia New-Charter Media/Cape Girardeau; Emily Gausman-Minnesota Wild; Matt Morse-CBS Fresno; Rebecca Rodriguez-Disney Channel/Burbank; Christiana Kwon-Food Network/LA; Lauren Michal-CBS Television Distribution/Santa Monica; Marci Polzin-Innovative Artists/Santa Monica; Catherine Carnovale-CBS/Toronto

Today’s Trivia Question:   What TV character espoused this theory? – “A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it’s the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.”    (Email
