Good morning. It’s Wednesday, August 5, 2009, and this is this is your first early morning briefing. And as always, if you prefer to watch this morning’s news instead of reading it, click here. Tonight’s Premieres: Tonight’s Finale: Two Current TV reporters, Laura Ling and Euna Lee who had been detained in North Korea since March have been pardoned and released by that country’s leader Kim Jong-Il. Former President Bill Clinton arrived in North Korea yesterday to help negotiate their release and the women will be allowed to leave with him. Ling and Lee were producing a report for Current TV about North Korean refugees escaping to China when they crossed the China/North Korean border and were arrested by a military patrol. In June, both were sentenced to 12 years of hard labor. The Society of Professional Journalists has been following the story since Ling’s and Lee’s capture, said they are “pleased” with the news of the journalists’ release. “This is great news that these two American journalists have been released,” SPJ President Dave Aeikens said. “We are sorry it took so long for North Korea to do the right thing and we are grateful to former President Clinton for his involvement.” A CYNOPSIS MESSAGE IFC IFC Presents a 3 Night Comedy Musical Mini-Series Event

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: It’s never been more nice to have friends in high places. North Korean leader Kim Jong Il has issued a “special pardon” to jailed Current TV reporters Laura Ling and Euna Lee after protracted negotiations that culminated in a visit by former president Bill Clinton, 24 hours before their release. The Ling and Lee families issued a joint statement on their website thanking President Obama, Secretary Clinton and the U.S. State Dept. for their efforts. Laura and Euna were on assignment along the Chinese border investigating the plight of North Korean refugees and human trafficking victims when they were picked up by North Korean military agents nearly 5 months ago. The two were convicted of trespassing in a closed trial last month and sentenced to 12 years of hard labor. Full edition: CYN DIGITAL. CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Stephenie Meyer, the author of the Twilight book series in case you have been traveling outside our galaxy, will be the focus of Bluewater Productions‘ Female Force comic book. Two versions of the biographic comic about Meyer will debut just before Summit Entertainment’s November 20, 2009 release of the third movie based on her books, The Twilight Saga: New Moon. Penned by Ryan Burton, Female Force: Stephenie Meyer comic will be narrated, according to Burton, by “a very recognizable and iconic vampire.” Gets ya thinking doesn’t it? The comic will be available as a standard 22-page edition and also as a double-sized collector’s edition that will feature a range of extras such as a history of Forks (duh … the town where the Twilight series is set). Dave MacNeil is drawing the title, with cover art created by Vinnie Tartamella. Previous Female Force subjects include Hilary Clinton, Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Sarah Palin and Princess Diana.
