ESPN and Harrah’s Interactive Entertainment extended their partnership with a new seven-year deal which keeps the World Series of Poker (WSOP) on ESPN through April 2018. ESPN has aired WSOP tournaments since 2003, drawing in a total audience of approximately 82 million US viewers annually. The updated deal allows ESPN to broadcast at least 32 hours of event coverage from the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas each year in addition to WSOP gold bracelet events and the November Nine Championship. WSOP coverage airs on ESPN and across many platforms including ESPN HD, ESPN2 HD, ESPN Classic, ESPN.com, ESPN360, ESPN Mobile TV and ESPN International outside the US.

Spike TV and Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling made a new three-year deal extension which starts October 1. The agreement includes three more years of TNA’s weekly iMPACT! show in addition to a series of ten original one-hour specials featuring historic TNA matches produced by TNA Entertainment.

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  Hacker extraordinaire Albert Gonzales, a true life Neo from the Matrix series without the good looks, was indicted in federal district court on Monday for carrying out credit card data theft from a record 130 million credit cards. Miami-based Gonzales, 28, and two Russian accomplices were able to penetrate the firewalls of 7-Eleven, Heartland Payment Systems and Hannaford Brothers to pilfer the data records over the course of two years, from Oct. 2006 to May 2008. The case puts the spotlight on the vulnerability of financial internet systems and is expected to test the limits of current cyber-related statutes. If convicted, Gonzales could spend up to 5 years in jail for conspiracy charges and a further 20 years for wire fraud.     Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.

CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Nickelodeon enters into a licensing deal with Louisiana-based Southern Star Amusements (SSA) to create its first Nick-branded water and theme park in New Orleans, LA, which will be called Nickelodeon Universe New Orleans.  SSA will build the new theme park as part of the City of New Orleans and SSA’s redevelopment plan for an existing 65-acre space that has previously housed a Six Flags theme park (which closed due to Hurricane Katrina) and before that the Jazzland park.  The park will not only carry the Nickelodeon name but will feature Nick-branded rides and activities.  Under the deal, Nickelodeon will receive a licensing fee and the City of New Orleans will hold a leasing deal with SSA.  With construction set to begin this fall, the new park will be funded by private investors and in part by Go Zone bonds and is slated to open by the end of 2010.  There will be no local public funding used to build the park.  While Nickelodeon Universe New Orleans is Nick’s first outdoor theme park, it will be the second Nickelodeon Universe park; the first is at the Mall of America in Minneapolis.  A little more than a month ago there were rumors that Nickelodeon and SSA had inked a deal, but there was no deal in place at that time.  Full edition: CYN KIDS.
