A&E Network returns the British spy series MI-5 to its schedule for a fourth season beginning with a two-part special at 11p on September 15 and continuing on September 22. The series is produced for A&E by BBC Worldwide Americas Inc.

E!’s season finale of The Simple Life: ‘Til Death Do Us Part brought in the second highest-rated telecast for the network delivering 1.65 million total viewers and a 1.1 A18-49 rating.

ESPN‘s debut of Monday Night Football scored 5.4 million total viewers for the Raiders v. Vikings game. In the all-important A18-49 category, 2.7 million viewers tuned in, per Nielsen Media Research.   While these numbers are down considerably from ABC’s kick off presentation of Monday Night Football a year ago, down by about 40%, the numbers are higher than ESPN’s preseason opener last year between the Chargers and Green Bay with 4.2 million viewers.

CNN is tweaking its daytime programming a bit beginning first thing in the morning – American Morning will run from 6a-9a starting in October, an hour shorter than usual.  The daytime block of 9a-4p (with the exception of the noon news program – Your World Today), will be retitled CNN Newsroom.  The 9a-12n CNN Newsroom block will be anchored by Heidi Collins and Tony Harris.  The afternoon block will continue to be anchored by Kyra Phillips who will be joined by Don Lemon.

Fans of the CBS programs CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, Jericho, NCIS, Numb3rs and Survivor can watch new episodes for free via the network’s ad-supported broadband channel innertube starting the week of 9/18 – the CBS premiere week. Episodes will appear on innertube the morning following their network broadcast. The CSI franchise series, NCIS and Numb3ers will have their episodes available on innertube for four weeks, while episodes of Jericho and Survivor will be available during the entire season. Each program will be presented with minimal commercial breaks.

NBC‘s daytime soaper Passions is now available on iTunes as of yesterday, at the standard iTunes fee of buck-ninety-nine an episode. Each episode will be available for download one day after its network airing.

The network Current TV has launched its first VOD product via Time Warner Cable’s cable systems in the Los Angeles area called Current on Demand. The new product will feature national and local content, and is designed to compliment Current TV which is available now on Time Warner’s digital basic package and will be added to TW’s new systems by the end of this year. The new VOD content includes three categories: Best of Current, Current LA and SuperNews.

Bruno Kirby, perhaps best known as Billy Crystal’s sidekick and buddy Ed Furillo in the City Slickers movies and in When Harry Met Sally, died on Monday at the age of 57 from leukemia.  Kirby was also in the film The Godfather: Part II, in the role of young Pete Clemenza.  Kirby made several episodic appearances on television, including most recently on HBO’s Entourage, as well as a multitude of movies dating back to 1971.  He is survived by his wife Lynn Sellers, father Bruce Kirby, stepmother Roz Kirby, his brother John and stepbrother Brad Sullivan.

* PRODUCTION / DEVELOPMENT / CASTING *

FX has ordered a pilot for a new project called Echo Park, from Nuyorican Prods and writer Ian Edelman.  Nuyorican is Jennifer Lopez’ production company, together with her producing partner Simon Fields.

Elsewhere, Nuyorican is producing a reality dance series for MTV called Moves about six amateur dancers trying to go professional. Eight eps have been ordered, and Lopez will appear on the series from time to time, which is set to debut on MTV in 4th qtr this year.

David Keith will join the cast of CBS’ new primetime series The Class appearing as Yonk Allen, a former pro-football player earning millions endorsing an indoor barbecue grill and married to classmate Nicole Allen played by Andrea Anders. The show premieres September 18 at 8p.

CBS has ordered a pilot of a drama project that has exorcism as its central theme, and based in part on the real life experiences of Bob Larson and his Spiritual Freedom Conferences ministries.  An expert in the occult, Larson has penned several books on the topics of supernatural phenomena and cults. The project will be produced by CBS Paramount TV with Barbara Hall and Joe Roth.

Former LA Lakers star Rick Fox has landed a recurring role in the FX series Dirt, in the role of Prince Tyrese.
