Cynopsis: Kids!

Good morning. It’s Wednesday, April 8, 2009, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Production has begun on Skyrunners, the first original TV movie for Disney XD.  A science fiction adventure starring Kelly Blatz (Aaron Stone) and newcomer Joey Pollari, Skyrunners will feature alien creature effects designed and created by Weta Workshop (The Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong and The Chronicles of Narnia).  The story revolves around two teen brothers that commandeer a UFO that crashes near their town and uncover an evil alien plot to take over Earth.  A production of Ranger Productions and Shaftesbury Services II, Inc., Skyrunners is directed by Ralph Hemecker (Numb3rs) and written by Richard C. Okie (Quantum Leap, Earth: Final Conflict) along with Adam Wilson & Melanie Wilson. Okie also serves as executive-producer of the movie.

Nickelodeon gives the go ahead on a third season of the preschool series Yo Gabba Gabba!  Produced by The Magic Store and Wildbrain, production on the new season of 13×30 episodes Yo Gabba Gabba! will begin in LA this August 2009.  Yo Gabba Gabba! currently airs daily on Noggin.

There is one busy Easter Bunny out there. Sony Animation acquires the rights to Hip Hop, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  A mixed CG and live-action movie, the story revolves around the Easter Bunny, who deciding he wants to retire and takes up residence as a pet living in the home of a suburban family where he is making life a little crazy.  You may recall that earlier this week Illumination Entertainment revealed it is producing its first live-action movie I Hop, which also features a storyline about the Easter Bunny.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Nicktoons Network launches the new animated series Iron Man: Armored Adventures (26×30) with two back-to-back episodes on Friday, April 24, 7-8p.  From Marvel Animation, the series is based on Marvel‘s Iron Man character and will air regularly Fridays at 7p on Nicktoons Network.  Fans can grab a sneak peek at the series, an Iron Man digital comic book from Marvel and additional Iron Man: Armored Adventures-themed content, by logging onto www.tonyssecretlab.com.  Additionally, from Monday, April 13, Iron Man: Armored Adventures-themed video content will be available on Nickelodeon’s download-to-own and wireless platforms, with a dedicated category in Nick’s VOD offering.  Episodes will also be available post-premiere on TurboNick.

Cartoon Network is making Star Wars: The Clone Wars fans happy as they present 22 enhanced episodes of the series beginning Friday, May 1 at 9p.  The Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Decode episodes will feature text windows offering facts (e.g. trivia, background) about the Jedi universe and the labyrinth of details, as well as exclusive content created by Lucasfilm Animation.  This full season of enhanced episodes will continue each Friday at 9p, the regular Star Wars: The Clone Wars time slot, leading up to the fall 2009 premiere of season two.

VeggieTales: An Easter Carol is set to premiere on Gospel Music Channel this Friday, April 10 at 7p, with several encores over the holiday weekend.  The special is a kid-targeted retelling of the Easter story.

Cartoon Network Asia Pacific welcomes a host of new animated series to its current programming roster.  New to the network’s lineup are include L.O.S.E., Jimmy Two Shoes, Matt’s Monsters and Creep School as well as favorites such as The Garfield Show and season 2 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.  Also headed to the network will be more Ben 10, including the live-action TV movie Ben 10: Alien Swarm and new series such as Generator Rex, Sym-Biotic Titan and Adventure Time with Finn and Jake.
