~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Reports are circulating another high-profile broadcast anchor may soon leave her post. Meredith Vieira is expected to exit her position as co-host of NBC’s Today show when her contract expires later this year.  Vieira has served as co-host of Today since 2006 when she replaced Katie Couric.  Nothing official has been stated by either Vieira or NBC News.

Despite news about her pending departure from CBS News, the network said yesterday Katie Couric will lead its live coverage of Britain’s Royal Wedding later this month on April 29.  The Early Show co-anchor Erica Hill will also contribute reports from outside Buckingham Palace on the wedding day and later that night, Couric will host a one-hour primetime special titled The Royal Wedding: Modern Majesty.  Couric will arrive in London and begin her reporting on April 27 while Hill will co-anchor The Early Show from London starting April 25.

Science Channel is morphing into a new brand identity and will now be known as SCIENCE, sporting a futuristic on-air look and interactive logo called “Morph.”  The new on-air look of SCIENCE will launch June 8 at 10p, coinciding with the world premiere of the sophomore season of Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman.  The new logo, Morph will do just that, as interstitials featuring Morph will constantly change its shape, texture and sound.  The network is now available in more than 68 million homes.

CBS Sports and Turner Sports report their combined exclusive live coverage of the 2011 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship airing on CBS, TBS, TNT and truTV is now the most-watched tournament since 2005 with an average of 10.2 million total viewers. This average additionally represents +7% increase compared to last year’s viewership on CBS Sports.

Clarification: Paranormal Home Inspectors will premiere on Investigation Discovery August 16 at 11p in Canada.

MIPTV 2011:

First Hand Films closed an agreement with the BBC for the docu-series America in Primetime (4 eps/52 min).  Under terms of the deal, First Hand Films will work in tandem with the BBC to produce the international version of the docu-series which is presently in production in the US.  BBC2 is slated to air the series in 2012.

FashionOneTV signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with KT (formerly Korea Telecom) to enter the Korean market, launching on KT’s IPTV platform the middle of this year.  FashionOneTV will be distributed through KT’s N-Screen Service including IPTV, online, tablet PC, mobile as well as both wired and wireless platforms.

After a successful launch last Sunday on Showtime, new series The Borgias is generating brisk licensing agreements via CBS Studios International.  Recent international sales for the series include deals in Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Korea, Turkey and pan region deals in Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.  Previous deals for The Borgias include Sky Atlantic in the UK and Ireland and Telecinco in Spain.

SevenOne International sold the production rights to the game show My Man Can to VT4 in Belgium, SBS6 in the Netherlands and to Denmark’s SBS.  Currently, the game show is popular in China airing on Jiang Su Satellite Channel.  RedArrow Entertainment is producing the game show at the studios of SAT.1 in Cologne where RedSeven Entertainment is presently producing the show for SAT.1 and SULTAN SUSHI for SBS6 and VT4.  Season two of My Man Can will premiere in Germany on May 20 in primetime.  Snowman Productions will produce the show in Denmark for SBS.

Off The Fence made a deal with Israeli broadcaster Ananey Communications to acquire three hi-def series from Ananey’s lifestyle catalog: Duet (13 eps/30 min); Life-Changing Encounters (13 eps/30 min); and Market Values (13 eps/30 min).

BBC Worldwide Channels inked several deals involving entertainment and factual titles for its channels in Poland, Africa and the Nordic region.  Starring Matt Le Blanc, Episodes with 7 eps/30 min was picked up for Africa on BBC Entertainment starting August 2011.  Dating in the Dark was purchased from Talpa Media for Poland and Africa.  This July, BBC Entertainment will premiere the UK version of Dating in the Dark with 8 eps/50 min. In the Nordic region, BBC Worldwide Channel acquired ten titles with all airing from August 2011 featuring master psychological illusionist, Derren Brown.

My view from MIPTV:  You can’t help but notice the fashion in Cannes, and perhaps be inspired by it. The way the French can toss together an assortment of seemingly unrelated articles of clothing and somehow it just works beautifully.  Some of the things I saw in stores or on the street we don’t have back home yet include the light and flowy Jeannie pants (think MC Hammer … maybe the better visualization is Barbara Eden).  And dresses with 3″ of toule below the regular hem can be flattering.  Ruffles are “out” and micro pleats and ruching are “in.”  For the guys, the always-in-fashion European skinny jeans, and new I think are the tiny flower monochromatic print shirts for guys. For little girls, hand painted silk summer dresses that may cost you upwards of 320 Euro (about $450 bucks).  And everyone, men and women must wear a scarf, wrapped loosely a few times around the neck.  I think it may be illegal to go out without one.  I like scarves, but mine are bold colors – purple, orange, pink.  The scarves here are muted prints.  In fact most of the colors of the newest clothes in the most fashionable stores along the Croissette are muted tans, beiges, whites, greys.  So I suppose that’s where the neon lipstick comes in.  I’m talking Bozo Orange lipstick that could be used as a beacon at night in a storm.  Yes, I may pick up a new scarf or two, but I’ll leave the lipstick behind.
