Good morning. It’s Wednesday, April 2, 2008, and this is your first early morning briefing.
9 Story Entertainment gets a series pick-up from YTV (Canada) for the new live-action series Survivorman Kids (13 episodes) (working title). 9 Story is working with wilderness survivor expert/filmmaker Les Stroud to develop Survivorman Kids, which is based on his Discovery Channel (USA) and OLN (Canada) reality program Survivorman. The 9 Story and YTV co-production will feature a team of six teens 14-16, with little or no real outdoor experience, in the wilderness for three weeks with Stroud along as both a mentor and judge. 9 Story has produced a range of animated shows including Peep and the Big Wide World and Skyland among others.
Producers Cheshire Smile Animation Inc. and Studio B Productions Inc., has begun production in Saskatoon and Vancouver on The Side Show Christmas, an animated Christmas special following The Most Unbelievable Show on Earth, a Side Show facing foreclosure on Christmas Day. Produced in association with Teletoon, where the special will premiere during holiday 2008, The Side Show Christmas is written by Jeff Martel and directed by Tim Tyler. Studio B is also currently in production on projects including Kid vs. Kat and Martha Speaks.
Disney Pictures and Stan Lee are in development on three new movie projects, which will be executive produced by Lee and Gill Champion and their company POW! Entertainment, per Variety. Each of the projects are based on Lee’s story ideas: Nick Ratchet is going to be penned/directed by Richard LaGravenese, with talks currently underway with Larry Jacobson and Sonny Grosso to produce; Blaze is set to be written by Gary Goldman; and Tigress will be penned by Zoe Green, and will be produced by State street Pictures’ Robert Teitel and George Tillman. According to the report, this Tigress movie is different than the one Lee is working on for actress Michelle Rodriguez. We’ll all have to wait on any real plotline details for these three.
MORE KIDS STUFF

Other Nickelodeon programming set to air on YTV include: SpongeOdd SquareParents Day, featuring episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants and Fairly OddParents episodes from Monday, May 19 at 12p, which culminates with the UTV premiere of The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odd Baby episode at 6p. Also upcoming YTV premiere stunts of Nick programs: on Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1, the network will present the Road Trip Weekend, featuring three YTV premieres of travel themed episodes of Unfabulous, Just Jordan and Ruby Gloom; and Mother’s Day themed episodes of Nick shows will air Sunday, May 11 from 8a.
BKN New Media has completed international sales for its animated show Dork Hunters from Outer Space (36×22 and 1×60). Picking up the series for simultaneous fall 2008 launch are: GMTV (UK); Network 10 (Australia); SABC (South Africa); and CTC (Russia). Additionally, BKN New Media has tapped Kidz Entertainment as the licensing agent for Dork Hunters from Outer Space across Central and Eastern Europe.
A third season of CGI animated HD series, The Zula Patrol (13x3o new episodes), will launch on public TV stations across the US in June 2008. The new season of the science/math centric series will focus on a range of topics including life cycles, ecosystems, and the solar system.
EXECUTIVE MOVES
As part of BBC Worldwide’s effort to drive bigger export sales through its Global TV Sales division, BBC Worldwide America has restructured its US TV Sales and Co-productions business with the creation of two new positions:
- Paul Telegdy has been appointed EVP/TV Sales and Content & Production. Based in LA, he will also continue to lead BBC Worldwide’s US Content & Production arm.
- Susanna Pollack is named SVP/TV Sales, Co-Productions and Children’s. This marks Pollack’s return to BBC Worldwide America, and she will report to both Telegdy and Gill Pritchard, head of BBC Worldwide’s Children’s business. Pollack toiled for the last two years for Star Farm Productions.
RATINGS
Nickelodeon’s broadcast of its 2008 Kids’ Choice Awards on Saturday, March 29 (8-9:30p) set a new record for the network, not with decibels but rather with the biggest KCA show ratings to date among K2-11 (3.8 million) and total Viewers 2+ (7.4 million) up by +6% and +22% over last year. In addition, the 21st annual KCA telecast scored new all time high demo records for K6-11 (2.9 million) and Tweens 9-14 (2.7 million), an increase versus last year of +2% and +4% respectively. Additionally, the 2008 KCA drove Nick.com ( www.nick.com ) to the highest trafficked day in its history, with 1.7 million unique visitors, who each spent an average of 40 minutes on the site, and 27.1+ million page views. Meanwhile 89.3 million votes were cast, which is +119% over last year.
