Following a blockbuster opening weekend for DreamWorks Animation’s Monsters vs. Aliens, FX made a deal with distributor Paramount Pictures for all DreamWorks Animation releases through 2012. The license deal includes Monsters vs. Aliens, Kung Fu Panda and its sequel, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa and Shrek Goes Fourth. Terms of the agreement were not available. FOX is working on a new late night show for Saturdays headlined by Wanda Sykes, according to B&C. The one-hour show, described as similar to HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, will air at 11p with a possible launch time of this fall or next January. The Sportsman Channel, currently available to more than 16 million homes, is premiering two exclusive new series in 2Q09. These two new series, Fly Fisherman and Handguns are part of more than 115 hours of original programming from the network’s parent company InterMedia Outdoors rolling out this year. Fly Fisherman will primarily air on Saturdays at 10p and Handguns is scheduled for Thursdays at 10p. Gospel Music Channel (GMC) opens a new series this Sunday night at 8p called Best of Stellar, showcasing memorable moments and performances from the premier gospel event, The Stellar Awards. Each Sunday night at 8p, GMC’s new show will highlight routines over the last 24 years in different themed shows such as Opening Numbers (on April 5), Finales, Male Performances Solos to Females Performances Solos and more. Two particular gospel artists will get their own themed episodes, Kirk Franklin and Yolanda Adams. Each episode will also include updated exclusive interviews backstage with featured artists. With more unusual food tastings and new destinations in store, Travel Channel serves up a third season of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern opening April 14 at 10p. Andrew samples some of the strangest cuisine to date including squirrel brain, iguana eggs, shark head, boa constrictor, blood soup to juicy cheese worms (yum!). The Tuesday night episodes watch as Andrew follows his taste buds to a new location seeking out authentic local flavors and traditional dishes. This new season finds him in Tanzania, South Korea, Texas, Australia, Singapore, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico and Appalachia. Fine Living Network handed Whatever, Martha! a 26-episode second season order. The series stars Alexis Stewart (daughter of Martha) and Jennifer Koppelman Hutt as they sit in a living room watching and dishing on old episodes of Martha Stewart Living. Martha Stewart created the show herself hoping Alexis and Jennifer’s perspective on her how-to projects would inspire more youthful fans of all things Martha. The series is produced by Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. HISTORY’s Sunday night two-hour special Predator X about a huge fossil pegged at 150 million years old attracted 1.7 million total viewers, representing a 31% increase compared to the network’s prime average. GroupM released a revised, interim advertising spending forecast, showing an expected -4.4% decline in measured media worldwide to $425 billion in 2009 whereas spending rose globally last year +3%. In the US, ad spending in 2009 is predicted to plummet by -4.3% and even further in 2010 to -6.8%. MIPTV 2009 Update: Dear Marilee, Brittany and John John: There is a lovely thing about Cannes, and perhaps France altogether, tho this is the only place in France I have visited, so I can’t be sure. Cannes is altogether quite civilized and forces a traveler to be civilized. What I mean by that is taking the time to sit down and have coffee – not just get it “to go” in a large paper cup with a heat protective sleeve, but rather in a small porcelain cup with saucer, a metal spoon, and taking a good 15-20 minutes to sit, drink your coffee and enjoy it. Imagine doing that in New York City? And another thing — I was so pleased to be invited to a dinner by the Scripps Networks International folks the other evening held inside a wine shop. During the meal, there were people outside longingly looking in the window, and I knew we were the lucky ones. This shop by the way, not just any wine shop – but the oldest wine shop in all of Cannes – Cave Sun-Shine. A beautiful little store where we had an amazing dinner, great company, and the most incredible French wines ever – from champagne thru dessert wine and then even grappe (best to stay clear of this one), along with the wine presentation by the shop owner – Frank Obadia – who is the fifth generation wine grower/seller in his family. That was quite lovely, and you have to admit, really more than civilized. I went back the next day and bought two bottles. How could I not? And one other thing – if you choose to sit in a cafe in mid afternoon and have just one coffee or one glass of wine, you are free to sit there for the next several hours without even a side glance by a waiter or a request to push on from the cafe owner. I’ll ask you again, can you do that in New York City? With all of this civilization, and despite it only being Wednesday, you do begin to yearn for the Starbucks, the quick in-and-out food and the snooty waiter who’s looking to turn over your table a couple more times during his shift … and the ease of knowing exactly what you’re dealing with. So, kids … I’ll be home soon. Miss you, love, Mom. MIPTV News Update:

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~
MTV Canada, CTV and Free Form Productions Inc. started production in Whistler, British Columbia on the unscripted, 30m original documentary series Peak Season. The series looks at the lives, loves and real-life drama of a group of twentysomethings who live in the popular ski resort town and site of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Both MTV Canada and CTV ordered 10 episodes of Peak Season slated to premiere later this year. In more MTV news, the network is extending its long-time reality docu-drama series The Real World for four more seasons and The Real World/Road Rules Challenge also by four more cycles. Both series are from Bunim-Murray Productions and with this deal the 17-year old The Real World will now rack up 26 total cycles while the competitive series The Real World/Road Rules Challenge will total 21 cycles. Production is happening now on the next The Real World edition in Cancun. CNN’s chief international correspondent Christiane Amanpour will soon get her own show and is partnering with veteran news producer Kathy O’Hearn who most recently worked at ABC, per THR. The New York-based, 30m weekday program will begin this September and air during primetime in Europe on CNN International and on Sunday afternoons on CNN. O’Hearn will serve as executive producer. Production for the second season of Si TV’s Model Latina, a 13-episode original competition reality series involving 12 beautiful Latinas, has begun in Miami. Each of the 12 women hopes to prove they have it all: good looks, culture, style, sophistication in addition to intellect. The winner receives $10,000 in prizes, a modeling contract and a Si TV host spot plus more. ESPN tagged Baseball Hall of Famer Dave Winfield as a Baseball Tonight analyst, working Sundays and some Mondays with host Karl Ravech and analysts Peter Gammons and John Kruk during the MLB season. Winfield will begin this Sunday at 7p on ESPN2 leading into Opening Night Atlanta vs. Philadelphia at 8p. Follow up: ABC, Mark Burnett and Sony Pictures Television (SPT) are partnering on the new reality series Shark Tank, where entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to five multimillion tycoons. SPT will produce the series and holds the format rights in addition to selling it internationally. Casting Call: CBS is seeking participants for Big Brother 11, the reality show where strangers live together, cut off from the outside world, while TV cameras watch their every move 24/7 all for a chance to win $500,000. The network is seeking males and females, age 21 to 60 who are attractive, fun, outgoing and energetic, “characters” are a must, and those with a New York accent a plus. On-camera auditions will take place in New York City this Sunday all day, beginning at noon at Roy Arias Studios, 300 W. 43rd Street, 3rd Floor Suite 301/A. Come prepared with a two-minute spiel on why you would be great on the show and what makes you different. Visit www.CBS.com to find the show’s application, download it and bring it completed and with you to the audition along with a copy of your photo ID. ~ ELSEWHERE IN CYNOPSIS ~
CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY: April Fools Day arrives with fear of the latest superworm, dubbed Conflicker or alternatively Downup or Kido. The worm, which is believed to have burrowed its way into more than 3 million Windows-based PCs in the U.S. and another 10 million internationally, is expected to manifest itself in some way today, possibly causing massive network outtages. Microsoft has been concerned enough about the malware to organize a task force to combat the effects of Conflicker and offer a $250,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the hackers who cooked it up. Computer experts say the best way to combat the worm is to perform a clean install … Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.
