FOX is working on a new late night show for Saturdays headlined by Wanda Sykes, according to B&C. The one-hour show, described as similar to HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, will air at 11p with a possible launch time of this fall or next January.

The Sportsman Channel, currently available to more than 16 million homes, is premiering two exclusive new series in 2Q09. These two new series, Fly Fisherman and Handguns are part of more than 115 hours of original programming from the network’s parent company InterMedia Outdoors rolling out this year. Gospel Music Channel (GMC) opens a new series this Sunday night at 8p called Best of Stellar, showcasing memorable moments and performances from the premier gospel event, The Stellar Awards. Each Sunday night at 8p, GMC’s new show will highlight routines over the last 24 years in different themed shows such as Opening Numbers (on April 5), Finales, Male Performances  Solos to Females Performances  Solos and more. Two particular gospel artists will get their own themed episodes, Kirk Franklin and Yolanda Adams. Each episode will also include updated exclusive interviews backstage with featured artists.

With more unusual food tastings and new destinations in store, Travel Channel serves up a third season of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern opening April 14 at 10p. This new season finds him in Tanzania, South Korea, Texas, Australia, Singapore, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico and Appalachia.

Fine Living Network handed Whatever, Martha! a 26-episode second season order. The series stars Alexis Stewart (daughter of Martha) and Jennifer Koppelman Hutt as they sit in a living room watching and dishing on old episodes of Martha Stewart Living. Martha Stewart created the show herself hoping Alexis and Jennifer’s perspective on her how-to projects would inspire more youthful fans of all things Martha. The series is produced by Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia.

MIPTV 2009 Update:  Dear Marilee, Brittany and John John:  There is a lovely thing about Cannes, and perhaps France altogether, tho this is the only place in France I have visited, so I can’t be sure.  Cannes is altogether quite civilized and forces a traveler to be civilized.  What I mean by that is taking the time to sit down and have coffee – not just get it “to go” in a large paper cup with a heat protective sleeve, but rather in a small porcelain cup with saucer, a metal spoon, and taking a good 15-20 minutes to sit, drink your coffee and enjoy it.  Imagine doing that in New York City?  And another thing — I was so pleased to be invited to a dinner by the Scripps Networks International folks the other evening held inside a wine shop.  During the meal, there were people outside longingly looking in the window, and I knew we were the lucky ones.  This shop by the way, not just any wine shop – but the oldest wine shop in all of Cannes – Cave Sun-Shine.  A beautiful little store where we had an amazing dinner, great company, and the most incredible French wines ever – from champagne thru dessert wine and then even grappe (best to stay clear of this one), along with the wine presentation by the shop owner – Frank Obadia – who is the fifth generation wine grower/seller in his family.  That was quite lovely, and you have to admit, really more than civilized.  I went back the next day and bought two bottles.  How could I not?  And one other thing – if you choose to sit in a cafe in mid afternoon and have just one coffee or one glass of wine, you are free to sit there for the next several hours without even a side glance by a waiter or a request to push on from the cafe owner.  I’ll ask you again, can you do that in New York City?  With all of this civilization, and despite it only being Wednesday, you do begin to yearn for the Starbucks, the quick in-and-out food and the snooty waiter who’s looking to turn over your table a couple more times during his shift … and the ease of knowing exactly what you’re dealing with.  So, kids … I’ll be home soon.  Miss you, love, Mom.

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  April Fools Day arrives with fear of the latest superworm, dubbed Conflicker or alternatively Downup or Kido. The worm, which is believed to have burrowed its way into more than 3 million Windows-based PCs in the U.S. and another 10 million internationally, is expected to manifest itself in some way today, possibly causing massive network outtages. Microsoft has been concerned enough about the malware to organize a task force to combat the effects of Conflicker and offer a $250,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the hackers who cooked it up. Computer experts say the best way to combat the worm is to perform a clean install … Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.

CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  Disney announced during its ShoWest presentation that the 3D versions of Pixar‘s Toy Story and Toy Story 2 would be released as a double feature on October 2, 2009.  The movies will run in theaters as a 2-week limited engagement.  This is a change in the studio’s original release plan for the 3D versions of the movies, with Toy Story in 3D initially set for October, and Toy Story 2 in 3D to follow in February 2010.  Of course this is all building up to the release of Toy Story 3 in 3D on June 18, 2010.  And … a 3D version of Beauty and the Beast is also on the way.
