~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

WE tv opens a new original intervention series titled I Want To Save Your Life April 25 at 10p. Featuring nutrition and public health advocate Charles Stuart Platkin, also known as the Diet Detective, the series premieres with two back-to-back 30m episodes and new episodes air each Saturday at 10p. During the eight-part series, Platkin will help women and men face their unhealthy lifestyle choices with the help the participant’s friends, family and possibly co-workers and he even goes undercover watching them in their everyday routines to uncover negative habits, all with the goal to change and save their lives. 

NBC has given Wolf Films the green light for an 11th season of Law & Order: SVU.  With that said, however, the series two major stars – Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni do not have deals in place yet for another season. These two stars are currently paid $350,000 per episode.

ReelzChannel, the TV network dedicated to movies offers a glimpse into the movie-making process with its new weekly series Hollywood’s Best Film Directors. Debuting this month, Hollywood’s Best Film Directors offers 52 half-hour episodes peering into the minds of such famed directors as Chris Columbus, Francis Ford Coppola, Oliver Stone, Ron Howard and many more.

VH1’s season finale of Rock of Love Bus with Bret Michaels last Sunday at 9p posted a season high rating of 2.2 among A18-49 as well as 3.2 million total viewers.

Earth Day Tie-ins:

  • NBC Universal opens its second annual Earth Week promotion this Sunday as part of the company’s ongoing environmental effort called Green is Universal. NBCU also introduces a new tagline “Green Lives Here” that will be adapted across all company platforms and brands such as CNBC: “Green Invest Here.” Throughout the week, NBCU’s green initiative will encompass more than 40 different brands and include more than 100 hours of green-themed content.
  • Discovery en Espanol will premiere An Inconvenient Truth for the first time on a Spanish network in the US on April 19 at 9p. The Oscar and Grammy-winning documentary film will re-air on April 25 at 9p.

UPFRONT 2009: BRAVO

On the heels of its best first quarter ever, Bravo reveals its biggest roster of series pick-ups, development projects and returning series. Bravo held its upfront presentation for press yesterday in New York, announcing it will expand its development slate into scripted fare and increasing the number of original programming hours by double. New series pick-ups include:

  • American Artist (wt) – From Sarah Jessica Parker and her production company, Pretty Matches and Magical Elves (Top Chef, Project Runway) as well as producer Eli Holzman, this 60m creative competition series follows 12 artists as they vie for a gallery show, a cash prize and a sponsored national tour.
  • Design Sixx (wt) – Cortney and Robert Novogratz, a husband and wife design team and proprietors of Sixx Design, renovate abandoned buildings in Manhattan, transforming them into unique living spaces. In each abode, the Novogratz’s live along with their six children with a seventh on the way. Produced by Left/Right for Bravo.
  • Kell On Earth (wt) – Tastemaker Kelly Cutrone balances running her successful fashion PR business People’s Revolution while being a single mother and a New York jet-setter. Produced by Magical Elves.
  • Launch My Line (formerly titled Celebrity Sew-Off) – Bravo’s latest fashion competition series features ten established fashion designers who have yet to launch their own line. Each will work with notables in various fields such as stylists, music producers and event planners to CEOs with one team declared a winner. Dean and Dan Caten of DSquared2 will host the series and fashionistas Stephanie Greenfield and Lisa Klein will be judges. Produced by Lake Paradise Entertainment.

Scripted Series in Development:

  • Blueprint from Alloy Entertainment is a dramedy about 2 guys – best friends, work partners, and one is gay and one is straight, who own New York’s hottest architecture and interior design firm.
  • 30 Under 30, a series about 30 young and influential up and comers who have been listed as the 30 Under 30 in an annual major NYC event.  The series follows these 30 and their social and personal lives, both glamorous and scandalous.  The series is from Jonathan Prince and Alana Sanko.

New projects in development:

  • Eric B. (wt) – Eric Buterbaugh is the florist of choice for many celebrities from Demi Moore to Courtney Cox for their special events. Viewers will watch as Eric’s creative process flows and blooms throughout his daily life. Produced by Katalyst Media. Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher, Jason Goldberg, Rod Aissa and Karey Burke serve as executive producers.
  • Jackie’s Gym Takeover – Fitness expert/gym owner/entrepreneur Jackie Werner works with struggling gyms turning failing businesses into thriving ones. Produced by Shed Media U.S.
  • Laura Bennett (wt) – Docu-series about Bennett as she juggles her fashion design career, a passel of children and a husband. Produced by Goodbye Pictures.
  • Secret Life of Supermodels – Docu-series about the world’s most beautiful supermodels including Carol Alt, Maggie Rizer, Frederique Van Der Wal, Mariel Hemingway, Irina Pantaeva and Patricia Velasquez who are all close friends as they deal with work and relationships outside the modeling world. Produced by Stick Figure Productions and Bayonne Entertainment.
  • Social Heights – Series follows a close-knit group of Manhattan friends as they do their best to climb New York’s social ladder to become part of the socially elite. Produced by ABC Media Productions and Stick Figure Productions.

  • Chef Academy – Series chronicles Chef Jean-Christophe Novelli’s move to Los Angeles as he opens a cooking school. Produced by Mentorn USA.
  • Double Exposure (wt) – Viewers get a peek inside the world of celebrity and fashion photographers Markus Klinko and Indrani along with stylist GK Reid as they photograph and style for album covers to magazine covers. Produced by Juma Entertainment.
  • The Fashion Show – Follows 15 professional designers as they compete to see who America will chose to have their designs available to the retail market and a $125,000 prize. Produced by 3 Ball Productions.
  • Miami Social – In this series, Bravo will follow a set of friends who are some of the most well-connected young professionals in the South Beach area. Produced by Pink Sneakers.
  • NYC Prep – Series looks inside the lives of six privileged and rich teenagers living in Manhattan. Produced by Stone & Company Entertainment. Premieres June 16 at 11p
  • The Real Housewives of New Jersey – The popular franchise continues with this look inside the lifestyles of five Jersey Girls. Produced by Sirens Media. Premieres May 12 at 11p and moves to its regular time slot of Tuesdays at 10p on May 19.
  • Top Chef Masters – Spin-off series of Top Chef where 24 world-famous chefs compete to win the Top Chef Masters crown while battling for a cash prize going to their favorite charity. Produced by Magical Elves. Premieres June 10 at 10p.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)’s SmackDown is now available in the country of Turkey, represented by Sinerji Reklam Ltd. SmackDown premiered on Fox Turkey March 2 attracting 5 million viewers.

TV5MONDE USA, the only 24/7 French-language channel in the US, launched on Bright House Networks’ Tampa Bay system.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Signet International Holdings, headed by Tom Donaldson and boxing promoter Ernie Letiziano is acquiring AMG TV, a syndication network with approximately 200 affiliates and then teaming with Kerner Broadcast Corp. to establish AMG as the first 3-D broadcast network, reports Variety. Kerner will deploy its 3-D TV technology and also take an equity position with Signet. The programming lineup will consist of existing 3-D content and AMG will offer up its library of 3-D content to other networks. The timeframe is to have AMG broadcasting 3-D over several hours daily by late November or the end of 2009. Kerner also has plans to launch a add-on, that will turn any HD TV into a 3-D TV for around $50 which includes the glasses.

Casting Call: Producers at Discovery Studios and TLC are in the midst of casting for a series called Home Made Simple in the NC Triangle area. The show is looking for deserving families who need help with home projects. In its sixth season, the show utilizes a chef, carpenter and designer who come to the home to find simple solutions to ordinary problems. Interested homeowners who are between the ages of 25-40 and who own a single family home may send an email to

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  After shopping the fast growing unit, eBay announced Tuesday it would spin off its Skype internet-based calling service via an initial public offering during the first half of next year. eBay purchased Skype back in 2005 for $2.6 billion, but never delivered on its promise to integrate the calling software with its international auction sites. Yet the calling service has continued to grow in leaps and bounds in terms of its user base, with over 400 million registered users to date. Skype added nearly a half a million new users since launching its controversial iPhone app, downloaded by 2 million users in its first week of release.  Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.

CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  KidsCo teams with Inspidea, a Malaysia-based digital animation company, to co-produce a new green-themed animated short-form series titled Boo and Me (13×2).  Targeted to K6-10, the series revolves around Bo the Orangutan, who lives in a sanctuary after being rescued from poachers, and his two human pals Aiman and Yasmin as they learn about the environment and conservation.  Produced by Inspidea in Kuala Lumpur, Boo and Me is set to launch from September 2009 across KidsCo’s channels in Europe, Russia, Middle East, Africa and Asia. Saturday – A18-49 Analysis: ABC held command over all Saturday night with a 1.8/6 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen Media Research. At 8p, FOX with its double Cops episodes at 1.4/6 just barely edged out ABC and its annual four-hour movie presentation of The Ten Commandments at 1.4/5. With fire and brimstone, ABC led the way at 9p with 1.8/6 and FOX’s AMW: America Fights Back followed at 1.6/5. ABC continued in its solitary lead through 10p at 2.2/7 while second place was shared by CBS’ 48 Hours Mystery and NBC’s Law & Order encore at 1.2/4 each.

FOX brought down the house at 8p with House at 4.5/12 with ABC’s Dancing with the Stars doing the rumba in second place at 4.3/12. CBS’ comedies Two and a Half Men and Rules of Engagement averaged a winning 4.7/12 during 9p while the average of ABC’s Dancing/Stars and Surviving Suburbia was next at 3.9/9. CBS was the network that shined at 10p as CSI: Miami delivered a 3.7/10 and trailing several paces behind was NBC’s Medium at 2.7/7 and ABC’s Castle at 1.9/5.
