“Positively Entertaining” is ION Television’s tag, and with a new original series, eight movies and Law and Order: SVU on the way, the new season promises to deliver. The goal: “To keep on doing what we do well,” says Stephen Appel, Executive Vice President, Network Sales, ION Media Networks.

The Pitch
"We deliver content to an audience that keeps us in the Nielsen top 10-15, consistently,” says Appel. “Our audience is loyal. They watch live. They not only watch the ads, they purchase the products. We know this from our research – our analytics speak for us. No one is more on top of advanced analytics than us. We are very aligned with our clients and take great stewardship of their brands.”

On the Agenda
Added to a lineup of stalwarts including Blue Bloods, Law and Order: Criminal Intent and Criminal Minds will be Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and hit Canadian medical drama Saving Hope, launching with season 3. The network has the rights to past, current and future seasons of Hope, including episodes that originally aired on NBC  so there’s plenty in the pipeline.

ION is also continuing its tradition of holiday original movies. Airing through February 2016, this year’s crop will feature Christmas, Halloween, Veterans Day and Valentine’s Day themes. “ION has built a reputation as a prime original holiday movie destination over the past five years, and this new slate of films will only enhance that sentiment for viewers and advertisers,” says Appel.

What Clients are Saying
“ION made the media partnership fast, efficient and easy. They were collaborative and receptive to our feedback, and changes were made quickly,” says Diana Powell, Advertising Manager, ConAgra Foods. “We were pleased throughout the entire process.”

Biggest Challenge
“It’s always programming,” says Appel, “continuing to bring superior content to an engaged audience.”

Just Asking…
Cynopsis grabbed Craig Olejnik, who plays telepathic police consultant Toby Logan on The Listener, and Missy Peregrym, star of Rookie Blue, to answer some quick Qs.

What’s your favorite social media platform?
“Instagram. A picture is worth a thousand words. These tools are transforming how we relate and share with each other. It’s the new art of communication,” says Olejnik. Peregrym, not so much – she prefers good old-fashioned face-to-face. But when pressed, she admits to using Twitter.

Can’t-miss TV show
House of Cards,” says Olejnik. “I’m not allowed to watch it without my girlfriend. Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright are amazing.” Peregrym prefers Sherlock, New Girl, and “still loves” Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

What’s the one job you’d most like to have but know you never will?
“I would love to have been an Olympian. Maybe snowboarder? Or play soccer or basketball for my country,” says Peregrym. “That would have been the ultimate.”

Olejnik is less down to earth: “Astronaut. Maybe NASA will take actors?”

Quotable Quote
“TV is as viable as ever.” – Steve Appel.
