~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Robin Williams, whose early career included a starring turn as Mork on ABC’s 1978-1982 sitcom Mork & Mindy, may be making a comeback to television.  Williams is working with David E. Kelley on an untitled half-hour comedy project for CBS that is set in the world of advertising.  Kelley wrote the project and will serve as EP with 20th Television producing.  Bill D’Elia, who has worked as EP on a number of Kelley projects including Harry’s Law, Boston Legal, The Practice and Ally McBeal will also be an EP on the Williams sitcom.  Williams’ most recent appearances include guest starring roles on FX’s Louie and Wilfred.

Ken Kwapis, former producer/director of The Office has sold two family-themed half-hour comedies to NBC.  The first is tentatively titled Fred and Marilyn and is inspired by the real-life relationship between writer Scott Prendergast and his mother.  The second comedy is based on the Joey Pigza book series by Jack Gantos and is described as a high-definition family comedy with Claudia Silver writing the script.  Kwapis and Alexandra Beattie will manage both projects which are in pilot script stage through their In Cahoots production company.

A terrorism drama from Pamela Davis (House) is making its way to ABC as the network handed Double Felix a script order, reports THR.  The drama is about a family man who after suffering a traumatic brain injury tries to regain his memory and finds out he may have been part of a domestic terrorist plot.  Davis, who is writer/producer on USA Network’s Common Law, will write the script and serve as EP on Double Felix which is produced by ABC Studios along with Junction Entertainment.

Speculation is circulating if Randy Jackson will be exiting FOX’s American Idol.  According to various reports, he will likely not leave the show, though may not remain as a judge for the upcoming 12th season.  The reports indicate Jackson may shift into the role as mentor.  FOX has not officially announced any further details on who else will fill the judges’ roles after the show inked a deal with Mariah Carey.

Nick Zano has signed on to appear in at least six episodes of ABC’s Happy Endings when it returns in October.  Zano will play the love interest for Penny (Casey Wilson).

Veteran medical series Grey’s Anatomy on ABC cast Desperate Housewives alum Steven Culp in a recurring role.  Culp will recur during the ninth season in the role as Dr. Parker, a top surgeon.  Grey’s Anatomy is back on ABC as of September 27.

Also on ABC, actress Angelique Cabral was cast in a recurring role in the upcoming second season of Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23, cites TVLine.  Cabral will play June’s attractive new co-worker and will also be her new nemesis.  Apartment 23 premieres its second season on October 23 at 930p.

When the fourth season of revived Arrested Development debuts on Netflix next spring, Henry Winkler is back reprising his role as incompetent family attorney Barry Zuckerkorn.  Winkler will appear in multiple episodes and Netflix has at least 10 episodes in store for Arrested Development.
