~ MORE GOOD STUFF  ~

Out of the gate first, FOX announced yesterday it gave its freshman series Glee a full-season order including picking up the back nine episodes. This is the first new show of the new fall season to receive a full-season pickup order.

In the preliminary live-plus-same-day ratings results from Nielsen, Sunday night’s 61st Primetime Emmy Awards airing live on CBS posted a 4.2 rating among A18-49 and attracted 13.3 million total viewers. The 2009 Emmy event was the most-watched in three years, beating the 2008 results which averaged a record low 3.8/9 A18-49 and 12.3 million total viewers. Despite a gain year to year, the Emmys were trounced by Sunday Night Football on NBC, in one of those truly amazing games everyone loves to see.  The Giants vs. Cowboys match-up held at the new $1.2 billion Cowboys Stadium delivered a 16.5/27 overnight rating 830p-1145p, the NFL’s best overnight rating for a primetime game in 11 years. And given the number of times during the Emmys viewers were instructed by host Neil Patrick Harris and others not to switch to football, the game was the obvious draw.

National Geographic Channel highlights a group of state troopers as they patrol and protect the people and wildlife of our nation’s largest state in the new series Alaska State Troopers, premiering October 14 at 10p. Filmed over 10 months, this “day-in-the-life” profile follows male and female state troopers from two divisions including the “blue shirt” troopers who police towns and villages and the “brown shirt” troopers who enforce overall fish and game regulations. PSG Films produced the series for NGC.

MTV is changing the landscape on Tuesday nights by moving The Hills to the 10p time slot followed by The City at 1030p. This new back-to-back drama lineup starts September 29 and coincides with the season five debut of The Hills while season one of The City resumes. Both series will have 10 new episodes.

In other MTV news, a new season of The Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Ruins opens September 30 at 10p. Twenty-eight former cast mates travel to Thailand where they participate in all-new challenges with $300,000 in prize money at stake.

NBC is giving fans of its shows a chance to catch up on storylines prior to the start of the new fall season. Through NBC.com, viewers can now stream episodes of Chuck including the original season one pilot through season two. Season one episodes of Southland will start streaming on October 9. Both series will stream their full episodes through the week of their individual season premieres. Additionally, NBC.com is streaming current season episodes of SNL Weekend Update Thursday and Saturday Night Live. The full list of NBC shows streaming this season include: 30 Rock, The Biggest Loser, Chuck, Community, Days of Our Lives, Heroes, The Jay Leno Show, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Mercy, The Office, Parks and Recreation, Saturday Night Live, SNL Weekend Update Thursday, Southland, The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and Trauma.

Harking back to the good ol’ days, the Andy Griffith Museum opens this Saturday in Mount Airy, NC as part of the town’s annual Mayberry Days celebration, according to the Mount Airy News. The museum will contain the largest collection of memorabilia from the classic TV show The Andy Griffith Show. Andy Griffith was born on June 1, 1926 in Mount Airy which also calls itself “Mayberry, U.S.A.”

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  New FCC chair Julius Genachowski took the stage at The Brookings Institution on Monday, outlining plans to make net neutrality principles official U.S. policy as well as to extend them to wireless networks. Genachowski proposed that the FCC codify its 2005 internet policy statement, which set out four neutrality principles: that consumers have equal ability to access all lawful content, applications and services, and that they can attach (non-harmful) devices to the network. He also added the two additional principles of nondiscrimination and transparency – the former prohibiting ISP throttling and the latter insuring that providers are upfront about their bandwidth management practices. Missing in the speech were FCC strategies on how to enforce these principles in the marketplace.   Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.

CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY: A new superhero sized wrinkle in Disney’s $4 billion acquisition of Marvel Entertainment.  The family of comic book artist Jack Kirby, he created/co-created numerous characters and stories for Marvel’s X-Men, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, among many others, filed “45 notices of copyright termination” to both Marvel and Disney, not to mention paramount, Sony, Fox, Universal and other companies that have used his characters, per the NYT.  Kirby’s heirs plan is to reclaim the copyrights to some of Kirby’s work beginning in 2014.  The family is using the same law firm that recently won a ruling that returned a portion of the copyright of Superman to Jerome Siegel’s family; he helped create the man of steel character.  The report quotes a Disney spokesperson saying, “The notices involved are an attempt to terminate rights seven to 10 years from now and involve claims that were fully considered in the acquisition.”  Kirby worked with writer/editor Stan Lee to develop many of the characters in question.  Kirby died in 1994, he was 76.  Full edition: CYN KIDS.
