Good Morning.  It’s Tuesday, September 18, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing. 

Mark your calendar – NCTA will be returning to New Orleans this year when the confab reconvenes May 18-20. The Cable Show will return to the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, the scene of countless TV conferences in the past, and NCTA a total of 8 times. As part of the agenda this year, NCTA is planning a slate of activities and opportunities for cable industry companies and their executives to further assist in recovery and rebuilding efforts of the city.

NBC will now launch the second season of The Singing Bee on October 2 at 8p while the 90-minute The Biggest Loser moves to 830p that same night. Two more two-hour specials of The Biggest Loser will air tonight and September 25, reports FutonCritic.com.

ION Media Networks, Inc. has agreements from more than 40 new advertisers through ION Television first upfront season since the network’s re-branding. ION Television also has a new sales deal with GroupM involving Campbell’s, GlaxoSmithKline, Macy’s, Colgate, Kimberly Clark and Mattel.
 
TV One is now available in more than 40.6 million U.S. households, according to the September 2007 Nielsen universe estimates. The network launched with 2.2 million households in January 2004. TV One recently launched on Bright House Networks in Orlando, Cox Cable in Omaha and RCN in Chicago.
 


~  PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Annie Potts has joined the cast of TNT‘s Family Man to play opposite William H. Macy, a project from Storyline Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television.  Also added to the cast are Brendan Sexton, Sean O’Bryan and Jennifer Aspen.

Fox has added Christian Hoff to the cast of its comedy project Hackett, from Sony Pictures TV.  Hoff plays the Vice Principal in a Ohio high school that hires a former Yale professor, who left the Ivy League after some sort of scandal.

Casting Call: HGTV’s new series The Fixer is looking for Los Angeles area homeowners who need rescuing from slipshod home renovation jobs. Homeowners of all ethnicities with outgoing personalities are encouraged to send an email to
and include a brief paragraph describing the inferior renovation experience along with photos of themselves and the contractor’s bad work. Keep in mind, this show will not make over a house from scratch but work only on renovation nightmares.


~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

Chris Albrecht has landed at Forstmann Little & Co. as a Partner.  Forstmann Little owns IMG sports management, and Chris will head up the global media business for the agency and begin to build a $250 million fun with Ted Forstmann to up the ante on the company’s entertainment content. 

David Arroyo advanced to VP/Legal Affairs with Scripps Networks. David, who has been with the company since 2004, handles active and threatened litigation matters in areas such as international trademarks, idea theft, trademark infringement and commercial litigation.
 
CBS Records appointed Larry Jenkins as EVP/GM of the new music label. Larry will supervise the label’s strategic direction and its daily creative and business operations. Based in CBS Records’ West Los Angeles headquarters, he will report to Nancy Tellem, President, CBS Paramount Network Television Entertainment Group.
 
Azoogle.com, Inc. hired former Playboy Enterprises executive Michael Sprouse as CMO for AzoogleAds to lead international marketing strategy, media buying, direct marketing initiatives, public relations and outreach, internal communications, among other areas. He will be based in the company’s New York office.
 
Jay S. Abbattista is the new VP/Sales with WBRC FOX6/Birmingham and MyFoxAL.com. He will report to Dennis Leonard, VP/GM and will be responsible for all sales functions for WBRC and the station’s website.
 
The Independent Film Channel (IFC) recruited Craig Parks as VP/Branded Entertainment and Business Development, reporting to Alan Klein, SVP/Partnerships and Licensing. In addition, the network upgraded Lauren Burack to VP/Event Marketing and Promotions, reporting to Jennifer Caserta, EVP/Marketing, Communications, Scheduling and Alternative Platforms.
 
Sportscaster Mike Tirico, commentator of Monday Night Football will now host The Mike Tirico Show 1-3p weekdays on ESPN Radio starting September 20. Stephen A. Smith of 1050 ESPN Radio/New York will host the network’s 3-4p hour.

Friday – A18-49 Analysis: ABC was the top network Friday night with a 1.7/6 A18-49, according to fast affiliate ratings from Nielsen Media Research. FOX overshadowed the competition at 8p as a new episode of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? won with 1.5/6. Then at 9p, UNIV’s viewer favorite Destilando Amor came in first at 2.0/6, while over at FOX the premiere of Nashville ranked fifth overall at 1.0/3. ABC’s Friday night staple 20/20 won at 10p with a 1.8/6.
