Good morning. It’s Tuesday, September 10, 2013, and this is your first early morning Sports briefing. 

CBS Sports will stream the entire 2013 SEC on CBS slate of games starting with the Alabama/Texas A&M game on Saturday. The live stream of the SEC “Game of the Week” on CBSSports.com and on the CBS Sports mobile app will offer viewers feature multiple camera angles to complement game broadcasts. The All-22 camera angle will be available along with the main camera angle during live streaming coverage of every game, providing a high view from the 50 yard line showing all players on the field. Viewers will be able to switch back and forth between the game simulcast and the All-22 camera angle, and will also have access to live team and player statistics, Twitter integration, interactive elements including polling and highlights and additional on-demand video.

On the Air

Speaking of the A&M game this weekend, Sports Illustrated reports that CBS will offer Johnny Cam at the game, featuring an extra camera that will exclusively target Texas A&M quarterback and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel. CBS will carry the game at 3:30p.

As expected the return of the NFL packed a wallop in early Nielsen numbers, with CBS’ week 1 regional coverage earning a 11.2/23 in overnight rating/share to mark an 8% spike over last year’s average for the week. In fact, that score ranks as the highest-rated singleheader game debut for CBS in metered markets since 1999. Fox’s doubleheader kicked off with a 10.2 rating to hold even with last year’s number while the afternoon matchup with Green Bay and San Francisco in the national window pulled a 17.8 number in early Nielsen scores and is up over 2012. NBC’s SNF contest drew a 16.6 in metered markets, off about 8% from the opener a year ago.

The PGA Tour laid out its complete 2013-14 schedule on Monday, which will mark the circuit’s first wrap-around lineup starting in October. The organization will see six fall events for the year, beginning with the Frys.com Open, before taking a break for over a month and then returning with the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. The slate includes a change in the playoff format, which will be played over consecutive weeks starting with The Barclays in August with the bye week now coming after the Tour Championship.

CBS Sports announced that its SEC on CBS football game for Saturday, Sept. 21 will feature the Tennessee/Florida matchup. Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson will call the contest, along with reporter Tracy Wolfson from Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in Gainesville, Fla.

Providence Equity Partners agreed to become majority shareholder for Learfield Communications, Inc.. The transaction will become effective upon closing, pending regulatory approval. Providence will help Learfield further expand its strategy for growth in the collegiate multimedia rights arena.

HBO Films will debut Muhammad Ali’s Greatest Fight on October 5 at 8p. The film will feature Christopher Plummer, Frank Langella, and Benjamin Walker and will be directed by Stephen Frears. The film examines Ali’s case in which he refused to be drafted into the U.S. military, based on his religious opposition to the Vietnam War and goes behind the closed doors of the United States Supreme Court as its nine decide the outcome of the boxer’s landmark appeal.

Univision Deportes announced a partnership with Kingsford Charcoal to create a series of original remote segments that will air on sports entertainment show Republica Deportiva on Sundays at 11a. The segments, airing through Sunday, October 6, will showcase grilling recipes The partnership also extends beyond co-branded television content to include digital elements (through a sweepstakes and original content available on a HUB via NFL.com/espanol as well as local and national radio events, retail extensions and vignettes.

BTN has finalized presenting sponsorship deals with advertisers for Big Ten football games in each of the network’s three Saturday windows. GM/Buick will serve as the presenting sponsor of Big Ten Football in prime time, John Deere is the presenting sponsor of Big Ten Football at 3:30p, and the U.S. Marine Corps signed on for Big Ten Football at Noon.
 
Later this month, BBVA Group will release its first worldwide advertising campaign starring four of its international brand ambassadors: NBA All-Stars Kevin Durant and James Harden, and Iker Casillas and Andres Iniesta from La Liga BBVA, Spain’s premier soccer league. The campaign will be viewed across BBVA’s footprint in Spain, the United States, Latin America and Turkey.

Sony Pictures Television Ad Sales locked in a deal with Rural Media Group, Inc. for a national representation agreement for commercial advertising sales for the company’s rural and western lifestyle themed satellite/cable delivered networks, RFD-TV, RURAL TV, and RURAL RADIO on SiriusXM Channel 80.

Digital & Technology

ESPN announced Get Clutch, an interactive extension of WatchESPN’s animated Clutch Way to Watch brand campaign that will see the experiential website allows fans to create their own illustrated portraits and submit WatchESPN moments for a chance to be the lead in their own animated film. A minimum of ten fan-sourced films will be hosted on the site, with a new one set to be released every month. 

Sporting News Media entered a multi-year deal with the NFL for access to use the league’s video highlights on the media company’s ePlayer, a digital sports video-on-demand (VOD) broadcast platform for news outlets around the country. Sporting News Media will offer VOD highlights of NFL games, as well as additional related video content through the deal.

FOX Sports’ YouTube channel marked its second-best viewing month ever in August with 8,333,217 views, up more than 320% over the same month in 2012. Overall, users spent nearly 14 million minutes watching FOX Sports videos, with Mike Tyson playing Punch Out for the first time ranking as the highest viewed video of the month with 1,035,694 views.

Sports Illustrated partnered with Google+ to become the first sports media brand to embed a Google+ post into a website. Seth Sternberg, director of the Google+ platform, unveiled a story from SI.com story with the G+ embed at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco.

Thuuz Sports announced the release of its sports app optimized for the 2nd screen. The new Android app, designed to support the growing number of Thuuz fans who use tablets, includes a revamped game guide as well as Fantasy Football integration. One of the biggest changes to the app is its revamped game guide which will allow fans to see the most exciting live, upcoming and recently completed games in a single view, letting them monitor the sports world and decide when it’s time to change the channel.

The NFHS Network revealed that four additional states will join the new, all-digital network featuring boys and girls high school sports and performing arts. Member associations of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) in Kentucky, Louisiana, Tennessee and Utah bring the total NFHS Network membership to 32 states.
