Good Morning. It’s Tuesday, October 16, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing. In an internal memo from AOL head Randy Falco distributed yesterday, AOL employees learned 20% of their staff would be cut, representing about 2000 jobs. The first 1200 cuts will be announced right away, and then the majority of the remaining 800 (many of which are jobs abroad) are expected to be announced later on. AOL has been working on migrating from a subscription based business to an advertiser supported business, and in the 2nd quarter lost more than one million subscribers. Tonight’s Premieres:

Lifetime Television’s season premiere of Lisa Williams: Life Among the Dead last Friday (9p) delivered 186,000/0.7 rating among W18-34 viewers and 495,000/0.9 with W18-49 viewers. The network’s series premiere of America’s Psychic Challenge also attracted 414,000 W18-49 viewers. Last week we heard G4 has picked up the exclusive cable rights to Heroes as well as the repurposing rights, effective October 27th. Today we find they’ve also picked up the exclusive cable rights to Lost, along with Sci Fi Channel. G4 will air the show wtih a variety of interactive and web-related elements (their “2.0” treatment) starting next fall as a primetime strip, while Sci Fi is planning on airing the show as a block on one night of the week. G4 and Sci Fi have also picked up the rights to stream some of the episodes on their respective web sites. 2006 cinema advertising revenues have been revealed via a new report issued by the Cinema Advertising Council (CAC). According to the report, the industry revenues from CAC members increased by 15% to more than $455 million in 2006, up from nearly $395 million in 2005. Revenue data includes both on-screen cinema commercials that air prior to movie previews and the feature presentation, as well as off-screen revenues such as audio programming, sampling, special events, concession-based promotions and lobby-based promotions. The leading national cinema advertising categories in 2006 included automotive, entertainment/media (i.e. movie studios, broadcast/cable TV and home video), consumer electronics, telecom, financial services, educational institutions and government/military. Correction : Yesterday’s Weekend Box Office listed the wrong title for the #1 weekend movie. It should have read: Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married” from Lionsgate Films. ~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~
A&E‘s pilot project The Cleaner has signed Benjamin Bratt to star as a guy who after hitting rock bottom from his addictions, makes a deal with God to help himself and others. Ultimately he and a team he’s put together, become something of a professional interventionists, reports THR. NBC has put in a cast contingent order for a comedy pilot called Man of Your Dreams from Conaco Prods. The show revolves around a guy, a bit of a womanizer, who uses his expertise to help women who have a little trouble in the romance department. The CW is looking at a comedy loosely based on the life and times of comedian (and now The View co-host) Sherri Shepherd, reports Variety. Shepherd would star in the project while continuing her ABC daytime gig. The story is about a woman whose husband is cheating on her, and from that affair there comes a child. The woman then agrees to let the child and her mother move in with her (what??). The project is from ABC-TV Studios. Casting Call: A new television dance competition series, Dance Nation is searching for dynamic New York dancers. Qualified dancers must work professionally and have outgoing personalities; received professional training; talented in a variety of dance styles; and be 18 years or older and a U.S. resident. Dancers chosen to compete will be judged in front of a panel of judges and a live studio audience. The winner will receive up to $100,000 (in cash and prizes). The New York City open call will be October 22 and 23 from 10a-5p at Dance New York Studio, 237 West 54th Street, Third Floor.
