CBS tapped Neil Patrick Harris, star of CBS’ How I Met Your Mother to host the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards. The event will be broadcast live on CBS September 20 starting at 8p from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Additionally, Harris will be a show producer for the broadcast. Recently, Harris did a successful turn as host for The 63rd Annual Tony Awards. Additionally, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences launched its first consumer website at Emmys.com with its first task to stream the 61st Primetime Emmy nominations live beginning at 540a PT/840a ET this Thursday. Emmys.com will feature a slew of components connecting consumers to those who make television such as editorial, video and previously never-before-seen content and networking functions. Ryan Seacrest, host of FOX’s American Idol sealed a new three-year agreement with CKX, the parent company of American Idol production company 19 Entertainment, to the tune of $15 million per year. The deal has Seacrest exclusive to CKX in broadcast primetime to continue hosting American Idol or other CKX-produced shows in the future following the singing competition series. This deal, speculated as the most lucrative ever for a reality host, gives Seacrest a pay increase equal to three times his former salary of a little less than $5 million per year. Seacrest can still maintain his separate cable deal with Comcast where he is E! Entertainment’s lead anchor and he also serves as producer on E!’s Keeping Up with the Kardashians as well as the ABC’s upcoming reality series featuring Jamie Oliver. Following the news of Maura Tierney’s illness that led NBC to push back the production start date of her new drama series Parenthood, the actress openly detailed her health condition. In a statement released yesterday, Tierney said, “I have discovered a tumor in my breast which requires surgery. I will not know either my exact diagnosis or course of treatment until that surgery is performed. My doctors have all assured me this is a very treatable condition. I’m very optimistic as to the outcome and want to thank everyone who has sent positive thoughts and support. I look forward to going back to work soon.” Mark A. Mandala, former President of The ABC Television Network, died Saturday while playing golf in Dorset, VA. He was 72. Mr. Mandala was with ABC-TV for 32 years, retiring in 1994. He is survived by his wife Joan, three sons, six grandchildren and a sister. A reception for family and friends honoring Mr. Mandala will be held this Thursday from 6-8p at the Dorset Field club in Dorset, VA. Later, another memorial will be planned on the West Coast, where Mark also had a residence, for family and friends. DIY Network introduces viewers to a third season of Blog Cabin starting August 20 at 9p. The interactive home building series will erect a custom log cabin in the mountains during 10 half-hour episodes airing weekly on Thursdays at 9p and 930p. From August 14 to October 2, viewers will also have the opportunity to win this cabin by visiting DIYNetwork.com. Si TV, the network targeting American Latinos with programming in English, returns its original series Model Latina for a second season beginning August 2 at 9p. The 13-episode competition series, based in Miami’s South Beach, follows 15 beautiful and ambitious women as they vie to become the new Model Latina with its career-launching prizes. Syfy’s debut of Eureka last Friday at 9p attracted 1.1 million A18-49, 1.3 million A25-54 and 2.6 million total viewers. On Sunday at 9p, Lifetime’s premiere of its dramedy Drop Dead Diva averaged a 1.6 rating among W18-49 and a 1.9 rating with W25-54. The opening episode also posted a 2.2 HH rating and averaged more than 2.8 million total viewers.
