  • FOX will debut the new action/comedy series Code 58 (wt) with two previews airing May 12 at 8p and May 19 at 8p. The series’ official premiere is scheduled for June 7 at 9p. Code 58, from Matt Nix (Burn Notice), is about Dan Stark, a washed-up, old-style cop (Bradley Whitford) paired with Jack Bailey, a by-the-books, ambitious cop (Colin Hanks). Fox Television Studios produces. Encores of both preview episodes will air back-to-back May 31 at 8p.

More big news from FOX at the TCA Tour: American Idol judge Simon Cowell announced his departure from American Idol at the end of this new season which premieres tonight. Cowell won’t be seen by American audiences for awhile though he will remain with FOX as he is involved with the upcoming new series The X Factor set to premiere in the fall of 2011. The US version of The X Factor will be similar in style to the British version and Cowell will serve as judge and executive producer. Cowell’s Syco Television and FremantleMedia North America will produce The X Factor while Syco and Sony Music Entertainment jointly own the franchise. With this announcement, FOX also revealed its scheduling strategy to have The X Factor air in the fall, American Idol in the winter and spring and So You Think You Can Dance during the summer, keeping its reality franchises on air year-round.

MTV follows the real-life experiences of teenager Liz Lee in the new series My Life As Liz, premiering January 18 at 1030p. The series documents Liz’s experiences as a high school senior in Burleson, TX using confidential conversation and inner-monologues as she navigates different peer groups within her school.

AMC premieres the third season of Breaking Bad beginning March 21 at 10p. Prior to the new season debut, AMC will air a “Best of Breaking Bad” Marathon with six of the series’ top episodes on March 19 at 8p. Season two of Breaking Bad will be available via On Demand this month. Breaking Bad stars Bryan Cranston and is produced by Sony Pictures Television in association with AMC.

Lifetime pulled the plug on its comedy series Rita Rocks from Media Rights Capital. Two seasons of the sitcom aired with the second season concluding last November. Nicole Sullivan starred as a working mom who launches a garage band.

TBS is bringing back a third season of its microseries My Manny next month. The new 10-episode installment will pick up the storyline where it left off, highlighted by a family trip to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Disney Parks is the exclusive sponsor of this new season. My Manny debuts February 24, airing each Wednesday night for five consecutive weeks within special commercial pods in Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns at 9p and 930p. Episodes will also be available at tbs.com.

A new 24/7 hi-def lifestyle network targeting women 30-65 called BE was established by Mark Goldman, formerly the founding COO of Current Media. BE’s focus will be on Eastern-based wellness techniques through entertainment and information. Goldman will serve as President/CEO of BE Network.

A&E Network premieres a tenth season of its real-life series The First 48 this Thursday at 9p. During this new season the series will air its 150th episode. The First 48 continues to follow homicide detectives in real time during the initial 48 hours of a murder investigation, going inside police departments in Miami, Louisville and Birmingham and new for this cycle, Harris County, TX just outside Houston.

Bicultural Latino network, mun2 is launching mun2 Sports on February 20. ITV Studios produced a new one-hour entertainment competition series called Popstar to Operastar for ITV1, premiering this Friday at 9p. The six one-hour episodes follow eight well-known successful singers as they train from singing pop music to opera. Professional opera singers Katherine Jenkins and Rolando Villazon will mentor the stars. Each week one celebrity popstar will be eliminated by viewer votes.

HISTORY’s third season opener of Ax Men on Sunday at 9p tallied 1.3 million A18-49; 1.4 million A25-54; and 2.5 million total viewers.

Since viewers in the New York Tri-State area are unable to view Food Network currently through Cablevision, WPIX/New York is teaming with the network to air special broadcasts. This last Sunday, WPIX aired the culinary competition show Super Chef Battle: An Iron Chef America Event (which originally aired on Food Network January 3). The Sunday broadcast on WPIX posted a 2.1 rating among A18-49 and a 2.6 with A25-54.
