Cynopsis: Kids!

02/24/09

Good morning. It’s Tuesday, February 24, 2009, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

HarperCollins Children’s Books inks a deal for the publishing, film, TV and audio rights to Captain Bulk, a new preschool book series by author/illustrator Sam Lloyd, per Global License Magazine.  Described as an “eco warrior hero,” Captain Bulk teams with old toys, which he saves from the dumpster, to go up against evildoers and helps the toys get recycled and find a new home.  The first title in the four book deal is slated for publication in spring 2010.

Straight from a Ghostbusters‘ mouth … Dan Aykroyd says that if all goes well they hope to be in production on Ghostbusters 3, he made the brief comment in an interview with The Boston Globe. As previously announced, the Columbia Pictures movie will include all four original Ghostbusters, Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Billy Murray, Ernie Hudson and of course Aykroyd, though they may not be the central characters of the movie.  Ghostbusters 3 will feature a script by The Office co-executive producers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky and is being produced by Judd Apatow.

MORE KIDS STUFF

MARKETING/LICENSING

Universal Studios Dubailand and Sesame Workshop enter into a deal under which they will develop and build three Sesame Street themed venues for the new Universal Studios theme park, the first in the Middle East.  The Sesame Street 4-D Movie Magic attraction, which will anchor the park’s Surf City area, is a 400-seat theater with motion base technology that features Sesame Street characters and the sights, sounds and smells of the show.  The other two attractions include a Sesame Street carousel and live stage show, as well as a store, Elmo’s Emporium.

STONE SOUP

Cartoon Network celebrates the third annual National Recess Week, the week of March 2-9, 2009, which will feature sports and fitness celebrities, some 7,000 elementary schools in 30+ cities, monetary grants to schools and the distribution of 100,000 red rubber balls to gym teachers nationwide.  National Recess Week is part of the network’s Get Animated initiative, which celebrates the overall benefits of recess for K6-12.  NBA star/Olympics gold medalist Dwyane Wade (Miami Heat guard) again serves as National Recess Week spokesperson and is featured in on-air/online PSAs, as part of Cartoon Network’s ongoing partnership with NBA Cares.  The week culminates with kids nationwide joining to set a brand new Guinness World Record in four-square.  The 2009 effort concludes with spring events at Boys & Girls Clubs of America and a 40-city Get Animated Tour this summer.  Additional partners for 2009 National Recess Week campaign include the National Association for Sport & Physical Education (NASPE), the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): Physical Activity and Health Branch, the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, and the Association of Junior Leagues International.
