Good morning. It’s Tuesday, August 25, 2009, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Little Airplane Productions (The Wonder Pets!, 3rd & Bird!) is producing two new animated preschool series, Small Potatoes! and Jo B. G. Raff!, both of which are created by Josh Selig, Founder/President, Little Airplane Productions.  Little Airplane’s producer Jeffrey Lesser will produce the two programs. Little Airplane will showcase the two new series this October at MipJunior/Mipcom.

• Small Potatoes! (10×2)  The short-form series revolves around four musical potatoes as they use their imagination to take them on adventures and explore different musical genres.
• Jo B. G. Raff! (26×11)  Featuring a new style of animation called, Soft Toy Animation, creating a stuffed toy look for the characters, the program follows best friends, Jo B. and G. Raff, as they co-host their own preschool series.  Complicating the show is that G. Raff takes off just as each show is about to begin and Jo B. travels far and wide to find them  leaving the duo hosting the show from the moon to the Pyramids of Giza.

RDF Digital USA and Artificial Life partner to produce a new kid-targeted interactive animated half-hour TV show called Sleuths.  The show promises a new level of mobile viewer participation, not yet seen in the US, which allows audiences to become part of the storyline.  Utilizing Artificial Life’s MoPA-TV system, kid viewers can register their own avatars that will appear on screen three times during each live telecast for elimination-style voting sessions. The show’s detective characters will ask the avatars to answer a question related to the mystery and kids watching at home then text in their responses. At the end of each episode, a random selection of 5 avatars get to appear alongside the animated characters in a digital shout-out to kids who solved all three puzzles.  Producer Max Benator, SVP/Multiplatform Entertainment, RDF USA, will initially pitch the show to kid-targeted cable networks as a unique 2-screen entertainment property with a range of sponsorship opportunities.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Cartoon Network is set to launch the second season of Lucasfilm Animation‘s Star Wars; The Clone Wars (22 episodes) this fall with the premiere of a one-hour special on Friday, October 2 at 8p.  Following the new season opener, the new episodes will debut Fridays at 8p.

Adults are not the only ones feeling the impact of a tough economy and Nickelodeon will talk to kids from across the country in different economic situations in Nick News with Linda Ellerbee: $tre$$ed Out! The Economic Crisis and You, which debuts Sunday, September 6 at 8p.  The episode features Ellerbee and psychologist Dr. Jeff Gardere listening to kids, some filled with hope and others less so  all of them concerned, and offering coping strategies to help kids along.

Murray Walker, the legendary British Formula One racing commentator, will make a special guest appearance on Roary the Racing Car.  Walker will play himself in two episodes of the animated series, which will air on Five’s Milkshake! and Nick Jr.  Produced by Chapman Entertainment, Roary the Racing Car already features the voices of Peter Kay, as Big Chris, and race car driver Sir Stirling Moss as the narrator of the series.

DQ Entertainment (DQE) enters into an exclusive South Asia broadcast pact with Viacom 18 Group for the new 3D animated Casper (52×11) series.  Co-produced by Classic Media, USA and MoonScoop Group, France and DQE, Casper will run on Viacom 18’s kid-targeted Nickelodeon India channel across South Asia beginning November 2009.  DQE holds the exclusive audio-visual distribution rights for some Asian territories. TF1 (France) and Cartoon Network commissioned the Casper series.

Procter & Gamble‘s Pampers diapers launches A Parent is Born, a new 12-part webisode series that follows a real couple from the 15th week of pregnancy through the birth of their first child and the month after the baby.  The series (each episode runs about 4-5 minutes) can be found on the newly redeveloped Pampers Village website at Pampers.com.  Supporting the launch of A Parent Is Born, a 30-minute version of the program is available on DirecTV’s VOD service now through August 30, during which time the series will also be promoted on TLC.  The series was created and produced by The Zizo Group in partnership with Procter & Gamble Productions.

NETA (National Educational Telecommunications Association) is distributing Mark Kistler’s Imagination Station (26 episodes) new HD series to public TV stations.  In the episodes artist/author/teacher Kistler helps viewers of all ages learn 3D drawing.  So far 54 stations have signed on.

American Apparel is launching an expanded kid and baby clothing lines, which will feature youth/baby-sized versions of its adult styles as well as introducing new colors and designs.  The move comes following American Apparel’s success with the kid-sized version of The Shiny Legging earlier this year.  American Apparel kids ads can be seen on YouTube.

Cookie Jar Entertainment names Rodrigo Piza as VP/Latin America.  Based in Toronto, Piza will oversee sales for both new programming and consumer products throughout Latin America.  Most recently, Piza was with Hit Entertainment where he served as VP/Television, Canada, US Hispanic, and Latin America Live Events and Sponsorships.  He previously toiled for Locomotion Channel, Nelvana Enterprises and wrote and directed the soon to be released movie, Te vere en el desayuno?
