The acquisition would fulfill the pledge of MySpace’s new CEO Own Van Natta to burnish the service’s connections to the music industry. But it would also directly compete with the social network’s MySpace Music project, a joint venture between the Fox Interactive Media subsidiary and the major music labels. iLike has raised about $35 million to date from founders Scott Banister, Bob Pittman, Vinod Khosla and Ticketmaster.
