Good Morning.  It’s Tuesday, April 22, 2008, and this is your first early morning briefing.  And as always, if you prefer to watch this morning’s news instead of reading it, click here.

Fox Television Stations and distributor Debmar-Mercury are co-producing a six-week preview of The Wendy Williams Show. The daily, 60m entertainment and talk show will be based in New York and surround radio DJ and author Wendy, who will offer advice to the audience and viewers on various life issues as well as dish on celebrity gossip and new events. A sneak preview of the show will be seen starting July 14 on several Fox-owned stations including WNYW/New York, KTTV/Los Angeles, KDFW/Dallas and WJBK/Detroit.

Tonight’s Premieres:
NBC: Most Outrageous Moments at 8p
MTV: A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila at 10p

Discovery Communications Upfront 2008-2009. See Us Like Never Before.

~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Beginning this week, NBC will flip-flop two of its Thursday night sitcoms as 30 Rock will move into the 930p time slot following The Office, per Variety. Scrubs will move to 830p filling the vacancy left by 30 Rock.

FOX renewed the sci-fi drama Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles for a sophomore season, confirming the series will be back this fall. FOX ordered 13 episodes though the fall season time slot for the series is yet to be determined.

Spike TV made an exclusive basic cable television deal with Lionsgate for five action films including all four Rambo movies as well the television broadcast premiere of the most recent 2008 Rambo. The agreement, which was brokered by Rand Stoll, EVP/Television with Lionsgate, gives Spike TV staggered broadcast windows to air the films over four years starting June 2010. The first three Rambo movies were also acquired and the first film, Rambo: First Blood debuts this May 24 at 9p.

Doctor Who’s fourth season 90-minute opener Friday night (830p) on the SCI FI Channel drew in 693,000 A18-49 and 806,000 A25-54 viewers along with nearly 1.5 million total viewers.

Sundance Channel purchased the rights to eleven films from the National Film Board of Canada which consists of three feature documentaries such as one titled The Wild Horse Redemption as well as eight short films, including the Oscar-nominated short Madame Tutli-Putli.

PSA:  Volunteers are needed to help the weekend of May 17-18 as Cable Positive, the AIDS action organization sponsored by the cable and telecommunications industry, goes to New Orleans to assist the staff of two AIDS homes on needed projects. ~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Appearing on NBC’s Celebrity Circus series which premieres on June 11 at 930p, are Christopher Knight, Rachel Hunter, Antonio Sabato Jr., Blu Cantrell, Janet Evans and Jason “Wee Man” Acuna. Signed as ringmaster is Joey Fatone,  Celebrity Circus, produced by Endemol USA, features celebs performing a variety of circus feats including the high trapeze and fire eating, reports Variety.

MTV made a production pact with Cris Abrego Productions, LLC for two new shows for the network. Cris Abrego Productions will executive produce the previously announced From G’s to Gents which is slated to premiere this July about a group of guys competing to become gentlemen. The second reality competition series is tentatively titled Chubby Model following overweight women who want to become models.

Chicago-based Towers Productions, Inc. is in development on a new reality series It Takes A Parent hosted by syndicated columnist and radio talk show host Betsy Hart. Each 30m episode will start at Betsy’s radio show on WYLL/Chicago, then will follow her to homes where she helps parents and their kids.

After chef Robert Irvine, host of Food Network‘s Dinner: Impossible, ran afoul of his resume, the network has replaced him with Iron Chef Michael Symon, who is also the recent winner of The Next Iron Chef competition series and has been appearing on Iron Chef all season.  Symon will begin taping new shows starting this week.  Irvine had been the host and chef for the series previous four seasons.

NBC‘s drama series pickup The Philanthropist has lost his two key showrunners. The Philanthropist is about a billionaire who uses his money to help those in need around the world, no matter how much it costs. Exec Producers Tom Fontana and Barry Levinson have parted ways with NBC on this project as a result of creative issues on the direction of the show. Fontana, who prefers a gritty, true and sometimes hard edged feel to his shows (Oz, Homicide: Life on the Street), and who had thus far written the first half dozen scripts, took exception to NBC’s decision to go in a more escapism direction.  The show is being produced by Universal Media Studios and Original Media, and is slated to premiere midseason 2009.

Casting Call: Casting directors for on season five of Bravo’s Top Chef will be in four cities throughout May looking for chefs to compete in this culinary series. Open casting calls will happen in Las Vegas  May 4; New York/Upstate  May 10; New York/Manhattan  May 11; and Los Angeles  May 26. More details on the casting call locations can be found at www.BravoTV.com/casting .
