After 17 years, Cable Positive, the HIV/AIDS awareness organization will close its national office in New York per a vote from its board of directors, reports Multichannel News. Cable Positive’s mission was to educate the public and increase awareness of HIV/AIDS and over the years more than $2 billion in air time was donated for PSAs. In addition, Cable Positive offered direct funds to cable industry employees who had HIV/AIDS and secured more than $2 million in direct grants for AIDS service organizations nationwide. Cable Positive chairman Ray Gutierrez said in a statement, “The response of cable industry companies has grown dramatically, and that work demonstrates that Cable Positive’s mission will continue to be perpetuated in significant ways. Therefore we’ve concluded that a separate organization focused exclusively on HIV/AIDS is no longer required.” Local chapters are encouraged to continue their volunteerism and fund-raising efforts under the title of Cable Positive.

Litton Entertainment announced its new 30m syndicated court show Street Court is cleared in more than 94% of the US. The show, featuring Judge Mazz (aka Michael Mazzariello) premieres September 21 nationally and will air as a strip. Street Court is distributed by Litton Entertainment and is produced by The Strand Creative Group. Outdoor Channel Holdings, Inc. continues its multi-year distribution deal with Cox Communications as Outdoor Channel is now carried in three new markets. The network launched in Parma, OH on July 7; in Las Vegas on July 28; and Hampton Roads, VA on July 30. The network is available on the Sports and Information tier in each market.

~  PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT  ~

VH1 is moving forward with a second season of The T.O. Show featuring pro footballer Terrell Owens. The series focuses on Owens’ life off the field and production will start up again soon after the 2009 football season ends. Owens is joined again by his two best friends, Kita Williams and Monique Jackson who serve as his marketing and publicity team. During season one The T.O. Show averaged 1.5 million viewers per episode. Den of Thieves produces the series.

Casting Notes:

  • Peggy Lipton is joining the second season of Crash on Starz for a multi-episode run. Lipton will play Suzy Fields, a former hippie and the estranged ex-wife of Ben Cendars (Dennis Hopper) who is now married to Ben’s former friend Owen Fields (Keith Carradine). Previously, Valerie Perrine was cast in this role but declined to continue because of a recent back surgery. Lipton is remembered for her role as Julie Barnes in the 1968-1973 series Mod Squad.
  • Peter Gallagher will co-star on the USA Network pilot Covert Affairs, per THR. He will play CIA director Arthur Campbell in the show centered on Annie Walker, played by Piper Perabo, a multilingual CIA trainee whose former boyfriend is of specific interest to her new bosses.

NBC is working on an untitled put pilot from Jerry Bruckheimer about a unit created to track fugitives. Warner Bros. Television will produce with Jennifer Johnson (Cold Case) writing the action project as well as executive producing along with Bruckheimer and Jonathan Littman, head of Bruckheimer TV. KristieAnne Reed is also on board to co-executive produce. Bruckheimer also has two upcoming series premiering soon: ABC’s The Forgotten on September 22 and CBS’ midseason drama Miami Trauma.

FOX gave a nod to an untitled western drama from executive producer Scott Rosenbaum (Chuck), cites THR. The network handed a script commitment with a large penalty for the project from Warner Bros. Television (WBTV) and McG’s Wonderland Sound and Vision. The premise of the show is a western with a sci-fi component about a gunslinger stuck in the middle of two worlds. Rosenbaum currently has a blind script agreement with WBTV.

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  A fully-recovered (yet thinner) Steve Jobs, equipped with a 20-something’s liver, unveiled the latest iTunes software from Apple yesterday, along with a line-up of new iPods designed to take on more multimedia functionality. iTunes 9 makes some intriguing leaps forward in terms of intelligence and customization. The application will now make “Genius” recommendations for apps, movies and TV shows as it does for music, while improved synching functionality will make it easy to transfer downloads to multiple computers within the home. (iPhone synching has also been improved to allow you to organize your app layout from the desktop interface.) New kinds of content have also been introduced: iTunes LP is a multimedia packaging of music, videos, lyrics, artworks, liner notes and extras. iTunes Extras does this for movie and TV show releases, including documentaries, deleted scenes and interviews. Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.

CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY: Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. (WBEI) reorganizes DC Comics and renaming it DC Entertainment Inc. Pictures Group.  Nelson, who had been President/Warner Premiere, will continue to oversee the franchise management of the Harry Potter property, as she has since 2000, as well as representing the studio’s interests with Potter author J.K. Rowling.  Levitz, who has been with DC Comics for 30+ years, will now serve as a writer and become a contributing editor and overall consultant for DCE.  Levitz has held many positions of the years at the company, including as a writer on Batman, Wonder Woman and the Superman newspaper strip.  DC Comics will celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2010.   Full edition: CYN KIDS.
