ABC will telecast The 2013 Miss America Competition on January 12 at 9p live from Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The Miss America Organization and ABC tapped Chris Harrison (host of ABC’s The Bachelor and The Bachelorette) and Brooke Burke-Charvet (co-host of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars) to return as hosts for the Miss America Competition.
African American network Bounce TV kicks off its 2012-2013 college football coverage this Saturday with the Elizabeth City State versus Virginia State game live from Rogers Stadium in Ettrick, VA at 1p. Bounce TV offers college football coverage of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). Bounce TV also made a sports rights renewal deal with Urban Sports Entertainment Group to televise both CIAA football and basketball games. Bounce TV will air the CIAA Championship football game and select quarter- and semi-final CIAA tournament basketball games as part of the agreement. Furthermore, Bounce TV is set to premiere its new original series Off The Chain on October 22 at 9p hosted by Rodney Perry. Bounce TV launched a little more than a year ago and is available in 80% of African American households and 65 million homes nationally.
Today through Sunday, Style Media is offering free rides to fans of the series Big Rich Texas in the New York City area. The promotion highlights the third season premiere of Big Rich Texas this Sunday at 8p. The free rides are custom gold wrapped SUVs with bullhorns attached to the roofs and while riding, viewers will watch sneak peeks of the new season. Fans spotting the bull-themed SUVs are also invited to upload their photos to Twitter and Instagram using the hashtag #MotherDaughterDrama to be entered to win a pair of diamond earrings from Style. Watch for the SUVs in NYC locations such as Union Square, the Meatpacking District, Herald Square and Grand Central Station. Note: this promotion began this Wednesday, kicking off at the Penn Station area.
Sherri Shepherd hosts The Newlywed Game on GSN which is set to debut the first of 65 all-new episodes on October 25 at 8p. The Newlywed Game will air back-to-back episodes each Thursday night produced by Michael Davies and his production company, Embassy Row, which is owned by Sony Pictures Television.
Premium network Cinemax has renewed the action drama Strike Back for a third season slated to return in 2013. Strike Back is a co-production with partners Left Bank and Sky and the third season will film in South Africa and Hungary. The series follows a British special forces unit starring Philip Winchester and Sullivan Stapleton.
Adult Swim renewed its live-action comedies Childrens Hospital for a fifth season created by Rob Corddry and NTSF:SD:SUV created by Paul Scheer for its third season. All new episodes of both series continue to air Thursdays at midnight and 1215a respectively. Childrens Hospital and NTSF:SD:SUV will premiere their new season in 2013. Childrens Hospital is produced by Abominable Pictures, The Corddry Company and Warner Bros. Television Group’s Studio 2.0. It is distributed by Warner Bros. Television. NTSF:SD:SUV is produced by Abominable Pictures and 2nd Man on the Moon Productions.
Hallmark Channel reports new daytime talk show Marie attracted 95,000 W25-54 viewers on the show’s first day October 1 (12p-1p) which is +493% vs. the 3Q12 average. Marie also pulled in 320,000 total viewers. The network’s new Home & Family program (10a-12p) which also bowed on October 1, delivered 41,000 W25-54 viewers which is +28% vs. 3Q12 average and 160,000 total viewers.

Syfy picked up the 13-episode series Primeval: New World, the next installment of the series Primeval from Entertainment One. Syfy plans on premiering Primeval: New World in 2013 produced by Omnifilm Entertainment. Niall Matter (Eureka), Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries) and Danny Rahim (Young James Herriot) star as a team of animal experts and scientists who investigate paranormal events while battling both prehistoric and futuristic creatures.
Zodiak Rights, the international division of Zodiak Media and New York-based Leftfield Pictures are joining forces on the new format acquisition, While You Were Getting Married created by the Israel-based Gil Productions. Described as a feel good “ambush” game show, the format has been produced as a one-hour pilot by Gil Productions’ Tel Aviv-based studio. Leftfield Pictures holds the US format rights while Zodiak Rights as the rest of the world. The two companies will work together on the development and the pitching of the brand internationally.
Discussions are underway between CBS Television Distribution and Yahoo involving a new name and new look for syndicated news magazine show The Insider. Reports are saying the show will be renamed to omg! NOW. If the decision is made, the changes are expected to happen in January. The Insider is currently in its ninth season and is hosted by Kevin Frazier and Brooke Anderson who are expected to stay with the show in the new format.

A one-hour comedy titled The Taming of the Shrew, the same name as William Shakespeare’s famous play was sold to ABC. Producing the project is Julia Roberts’ Red Om Films, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas of 3 Arts and ABC Studios. The plot is about a horrible boss and the employees who try to rein her in. Marc Hyman is penning the script and Roberts and Goldsmith-Thomas are both serving as EPs on the project.
Season two of TNT’s drama Dallas has begun production. The 15-episode second season will premiere January 28 at 9p and is produced by Warner Horizon Television. Dallas averaged 5.3 million total viewers during its first season.
Oxygen has five new docu-series in development. The first project is Gorgeous & Guilty (wt) from Jersey Shore’s SallyAnn Salsano and her 495 Productions which investigates women who are intertwined in the scandals of the century; the project is considered a possible companion series to Snapped which is in its ninth season. Fat Girl Revenge follows women who confront their past tormentors for revenge after they have transformed themselves, from 3 Ball Productions with JD Roth, Todd Nelson, Brant Pinvidic and Adam Kaloustian serving as EPs. Funny Girls (wt) goes inside the world of female comedians produced by Brownstone Entertainment with Drew Brown and Bob Gillan as EPs. Heart and Soul (wt) is a dating series centered on Natalie Clarice’s Miami-based matchmaking agency for urban professional women. Endemol is producing with Alex Duda serving as EP. Shotgun Weddings (wt) from BermanBraun follows expectant parents determined to have a dream wedding before their babies arrive; Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun, Gene Stein and Chris Cowan are EPs.

Tuesday A18-49 Analysis: CBS chalked up a win Tuesday at 2.9/8 among A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, CBS’ NCIS led at 3.7/11 followed by NBC’s The Voice at 3.0/9 and tying for third place was the average of FOX’s season premiere of Raising Hope and Ben & Kate as well as Univision’s Por Ella Soy Eva at 1.7/5 each (Raising Hope on FOX posted a 1.7/5 at 8p). Also this hour, The CW opened a new season of Hart of Dixie at 0.7/2 which ranked sixth. CBS won the 9p hour with NCIS: Los Angeles at 3.1/8 and the average of FOX’s comedies New Girl and The Mindy Project came next at 2.4/6 with ABC’Fs Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars Results Show in third at 2.1/6. At 10p, CBS claimed the final win of the night as new series Vegas topped at 2.0/6 and NBC’s Parenthood and Univision’s Amor Bravio tied for second place at 1.6/5 each and ABC’s Private Practice was close behind at 1.6/4.
