Good morning. It’s Thursday, October 30, 2008 and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
Marvel Studios completes deals with Robert Downey Jr., director Jon Favreau and Don Cheadle for Iron Man 2 and the movie of The Avengers, both of which will be distributed by Paramount Pictures. Under a four-year deal with the studio Robert Downey Jr., the actor will re-team with director Jon Favreau and Marvel Studios to star as Tony Stark in for a second Iron Man movie and The Avengers. Marvel Studios has also inked a deal with actor Don Cheadle to star as Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes in Iron Man 2, The Avengers and subsequent movies based on the Iron Man franchise. Cheadle takes over the role from Terrance Howard who played Rhodey in the first Iron Man (May 2, 2008). Iron Man 2 is slated for theatrical release on May 7, 2010, with The Avengers set for July 15, 2011.
Author/screenwriter Neil Gaiman revealed that his newest young-adult targeted book, The Graveyard Book will be adapted as a live-action feature during an interview with MTV.com. Gaiman explained that while he had several proposals to adapt the book as an animated movie, he really wanted to see it as live-action. Thus the writer chose to work with UK-based Framestore, a studio known for its special effects (they did Two-Face in The Dark Knight), which according to Gaiman, “They want to start making films, and start producing their own films.” Gaiman will serve as producer on the movie. The animated movie adaptation of Gaiman’s book Coraline, from Focus Features, is set for release on February 6, 2009.
