In the final national ratings for Tuesday from Nielsen Media Research, Fox and the Sox won with a 7.5/20 A18-49 from 8-11p. The game itself which got underway around 830p, earned an 8.2/22 A18-49 rating. As far as non-sports programming, The Great Pumpkin led at 8pm with a 3.8/11 for ABC, quickly followed by NBC’s Biggest Loser with a 3.7/10. Gilmore Girls on WB earned a 2.5/7. At 9p ABC’s sitcom block led with a 4.9/12 for Jim and a 4.2/10 for Rodney. The special airing of NCIS delivered a 3.4/8, ahead by a share point over both Father of the Pride and Scrubs. At 10p, Law & Order SVU led the charge with a 5.3/13 while Blue and Amy tied at an 8 share.
Casting / Development / Production:
USA Network has tapped LeAnn Rimes to host the third season of its reality series Nashville. Nancy O’Dell had hosted the first two seasons.
An as yet untitled comedy project from writer/producer Rich Appel (Bernie Mac, King of the Hill) is being developed by CBS, who has given the project a put pilot commitment. Produced by 20th, it focuses on two couples – both going through a divorce – one ugly, the other not so much.
Let Bob Do It is a new pilot project on its way to Nick at Nite from Jason Alexander and producer Gay Rosenthal, per Variety. The show mixes the scripted and reality genres by doing a reality show inside the sitcom. Let Bob Do It is a reality show where Bob is assigned to do various unsavory tasks by the show’s viewers. The scripted piece is performed by the techies shooting the reality, and all the behind the scenes stuff of a reality show. Casting for Bob and his support cast are currently underway.
Both NBC and ABC are in the depths of developing miniseries based on the 9/11 attacks. NBC is working with Graham Yost and plans to be ready to air during the 2006-07 season, and plans to present the project along as an event, a la Roots or The Day After. Meanwhile, reportedlly ABC has been working on this project for a while, but isn’t saying much at this point. Both projects are reportedly using the 9/11 Commission Report as its source and basis.
CNBC will add Late Night with Conan O’Brien to its prime access hour beginning November 15, one day after the show airs on NBC latenight, raising the visibility of the non-late night view of O’Brien as well as raising the visibility of CNBC at 7pm. Court TV® announced today that it has been
The New York Court of Appeals has notified Court TV it will hear the network’s legal suit against the State of New York, claiming violation of Constitutional rights under the First Amendment as well as the NY State Constitution by barring cameras in the courtroom. Court TV’s Chairman and CEO Henry Schleiff says the 1952 statute preventing cameras in NY courtroom is, “…is a relic from another age. … The people of New York deserve to see how their courts function, and we believe that they will be impressed by what they see.” We are, therefore, very pleased that we will be presenting our position to the highest court in the state.” The network must have its brief filed with the Appeals Court by December 21.
ShootingStar Broadcasting of New England, together with Alta Communciations and Housatonic Partners, have acquired the independent station WNDS in Derry, New Hampshire, part of the Boston DMA, from CTV of Derry. WNDS will continue to operate as an independent. CTV of Derry was advised on the deal by HT Capital Advisors, LLC, a NY investment banking boutique.
Gospel Music Channel has named David G. Baker its new VP/National Advertising Sales. David reports to Charles Humbard, President/CEO and Brad Siegel, Vice Chairman of Gospel Music Channel. He will be based in NY.
Full Circle Entertainment has named Julie Kantrowitz to become its Chief Marketing Officer. The announcement was made today by Robert Riesenberg, President and CEO of Full Circle Entertainment. Julie hails from AOL Time Warner’s Global Marketing Solutions Group as its COO.
Amy Mulcair has been appointed Publicity Director for BBC America. Amy replaces Alison Green who has returned to London to work for BBC AMERICA. She reports to Jo Petherbridge, SVP Strategy & Communications.
4Kids Entertainment, Inc. has named Robert Mitchell as VP/Marketing and Promotions for the Company’s wholly owned subsidiary, 4Kids Productions, Inc. Robert will be responsible for the creation of innovative initiatives to enhance brand recognition for FOX BOX, as well as drive viewership and build greater value for the FOX BOX brand. He reports to Norman Grossfeld, President of 4Kids Productions.
Boston based Scout Prods (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, among others) has named Heidi Cayn Friedman as EVP/Production. Based in LA, Heidi hails from the land of Stone Stanley Prods. In her new post she will oversee all production matters on behalf of Scout for all of its current and future series.
