Batman: The Brave and the Bold, a new animated series, premieres as part of Cartoon Network‘s Friday night action/adventure programming block on November 14 at 7:30p. From Warner Bros. Animation, Batman: The Brave and the Bold is based on DC Comics‘ Batman character and will serve as the new lead-in to Cartoon Network’s other new series, The Secret Saturdays (8p) and Star Wars: The Clone Wars (9p), as well as Ben 10: Alien Force (9:30p). The voice cast for the primary characters of Batman: The Brave and the Bold include: Diedrich Bader (Batman), John DiMaggio (Aquaman), James Arnold Taylor (Green Arrow), Will Friedle (Blue Beetle), Corey Burton (Red Tornado) and Tom Kenny (Plastic Man).
Family Channel (Canada) gives the go ahead for the new live-action kids/tween series Connor Undercover (13×30) for air in 2010. Currently in production, Connor Undercover is being co-produced by Shaftesbury Films and Heroic Film Company, the latter of which developed the series. Each episode of the multiplatform series, which made its Mipcom debut last week, will include an original song and corresponding music video featuring cast member Jordan Francis. Connor Undercover revolves around Conner (15), a spy buff whose life is altered forever when Gisela, the first daughter of a small island nation, comes to live with his family.
MORE KIDS STUFF
Entertainment Rights secures distribution rights to the newest episodes (13×22) of Transformers Animated series, for a total of 42×22. Under the agreement ER holds the worldwide TV distribution rights (excluding Japan and North America) for the series including TV distribution across both free and pay TV platforms. The new Transformers Animated season of episodes was recently commissioned by Cartoon Network US for deliver in spring 2009. Following Mipcom, a number of deals across UK, France, Italy and Mexico as well as pan regional deals for Asia and Latin America have been signed, with new partners to be announced soon.
CBBC (UK) and ABC TV (Australia) acquire Animation Collective‘s new tween boy-targeted animated series, Jolly Rabbit! (52×11). The multi-platform property will also feature a website, including games, activities and exclusive content, and Jolly Rabbit’s band will release videos, albums and individual songs. The series revolves around the adventures of Jolly Rabbit, a lively tweenage rabbit as he navigates the seas with his punk rock pals in search of his missing leg, and going up against relentless Captain Squid, who stole Jolly’s left leg and is looking to get the right one too. The series was also recently picked up by Canal+ Family (France).
Barbie in A Christmas Carol will make an exclusive theatrical promotional premiere as part of the Kidtoons matinee movie program in movie theaters beginning November 1 and running through November 30 2008. In conjunction with its Kidtoons run, Barbie in A Christmas Carol will be released on DVD on November 4. In this adaptation of Charles Dickens’ famous story, Barbie stars as a singing diva, Eden Starling, who insists that the performers and crew of her Victorian London theatre show stay and rehearse on Christmas Day. Will a few visits from special spirits cure that?
Disney Channel India premieres the Disney Channel original movie The Cheetah Girls One World on October 28, at 1p. A sequel to The Cheetah Girls, this new TV movie was shot on location in India as the girls venture to India to be featured in a Bollywood movie.

50 years ago today Belgian cartoonist Peyo‘s (a/k/a Pierre Culliford) Smurfs made their first appearance in a magazine titled Spirou. As part of the 50th anniversary of the Smurfs, a new giant Smurf helium balloon and float will appear in the 82nd annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. The parade will be broadcast live on NBC, 9a-12p. Additionally, as previously announced, Sony Pictures Entertainment is currently developing a mixed live-action/animated Smurfs movie, which will be produced by Columbia Pictures and Sony with producer Jordan Kerner (Charlotte’s Web), and penned by David Stem and David Weiss (Shrek 2 and 3).
Cartoon Network Enterprises and Spin Master, the master toy licensee for Bakugan, will launch Bakugan product in the UK and France beginning this month, followed by other markets in early 2009. Serving as Nelvana’s licensing agent for the property in EMEA, Cartoon Network Enterprises has signed deals across various product categories (e.g. apparel, sleepwear, footwear, accessories, confectionery, stationery, publishing etc). Additionally, it has inked DVD distribution packs with Warner Home Video for the UK, Spain, Italy, Germany, Benelux and France as well as with K E Mathiasen for the Nordic Region.
UK-based Bulldog Licensing enters into a toy deal with Sambro for the Thumb Wrestling Federation: TWF. Under the deal Sambro will produce special TWF thumb masks that is set to be available at retail in the UK this November 2008. A TWF wrestling ring will be available next year at retailers including Asda, Toys “R” Us (US), and The Entertainer (UK). TWF is created by Animation Collective.
Tanya Van Court, who has led Nickelodeon’s preschool and parents online businesses, expands her position as SVP and GM, Noggin, ParentsConnect and NickJr.com. Her new responsibilities include oversight of the daily management of Noggin as well as heading its marketing and creative efforts. Van Court will report to Sarah Kirshbaum Levy, Nickelodeon Kids and Family Group, and Steve Youngwood, EVP/Digital Media for TV and digital, respectively. Prior to joining Nickelodeon in 2006, Van Court served as VP/New Media Products, ESPN.
