Cynopsis: Kids!


Good morning. It’s  Thursday, November  9, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing. 

The official Spider-Man 3 movie trailer news goes like this.  Viacom will premiere the first movie trailer for Columbia’s Spider-Man 3, which runs a full 2-1/2 minutes, in a road block presentation across its cable and broadcast networks BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, MTV2, Spike TV and VH1 tonight at 10p.  Each of the networks will support the new trailer with unique custom tune-in promotions both on-air and online.  Following the TV debut, a hi-def version of the trailer will be available exclusively on MTV Networks’  A total of 14 online destinations from Viacom’s networks are supporting the airing of the trailer:,,,,,,,,,,,,, and  The Spider-Man movies are based on the Marvel Comics superhero.


Discovery Kids will premiere its new kid-targeted special Saving A Species: The Great Penguin Rescue, on Sunday, November 19 at 6:30p.  Hosted by actor Elijah Wood, the special coincides with the Friday, November 17 release of Happy Feet, Warner Bros.’ new animated movie in which Wood stars as the voice of an Emperor Penguin.  Saving A Species: The Great Penguin Rescue is a documentary that follows the passionate efforts of volunteers animal care experts, conservationists, local citizens, tourists, business people and animal lovers from around the world that flock to Africa in a race against time to rescue African penguins who have been endangered by an oil spill off the coast of Cape Town.  Saving A Species: The Great Penguin Rescue is produced by Spectrum Productions for Discovery Kids. 

Starz Entertainment has inked a six-year output and library deal with action sports filmmaker Warren Miller’s Warren Miller Entertainment.  The new pact kicks off with the Shred Fest Marathon, a 22-hour programming event beginning December 29, 8p on Encore Wam.  Also included under the deal are the world TV premieres of Warren Miller’s Higher Ground, currently slated to air on Starz Edge on January 1, at 9p, and Warren Miller’s Off the Grid, which will also bow in 2007, as well as an untitled project see to debut in 2008.  In addition to the new programming content, the deal extends Starz Entertainment’s exclusive rights to Warren Miller’s Ride, Warren Miller’s Cold Fusion, Warren Miller’s Storm, Warren Miller’s Journey and Warren Miller’s Impact.  The programming covered under the deal will be shown on Starz channels including Starz Edge, Encore Action, Encore Wam as well as Starz On Demand and our Vongo movie download service.

Teens and young adults will get their own fashion trend monthly magazine beginning March 2007, when Time Inc. expands its In Style franchise to launch Project Y.  Heading up Project Y is In Style managing editor Charla Lawhon, who in turn has brought on Hayley Hill.  Hill, formerly a fashion director at US Weekly, will work on developing the new property and work closely with In Style’s editorial unit.


4Kids Entertainment, Inc. has entered into a multi-year licensing agreement with the American Greetings Corporation to develop a line of social expression products for the new property Viva Piñata.  The new line of products will include party goods, greeting cards, gift wrap and gift bags, stickers, and Christmas ornaments with initial products launching in fall 2007. Through the deal, American Greetings joins master toy licensee Playmates to launch 4Kids’ licensing program for the Viva Piñata property.  Produced by 4Kids Entertainment and Bardel Entertainment, the Viva Piñata TV series airs Saturday mornings on the 4KidsTV programming block that runs on Fox-affiliated stations.  Microsoft Game Studios and Rare Ltd, creators of Viva Piñata, are set to release a video game based on the franchise this month for the Xbox 360, with additional content available via Xbox Live.

Mattel has inked a new licensing deal with Disguise, the Halloween costumes/accessories company, for a new line of Barbie costumes slated to be available at retail for Halloween 2007.  The new line will consist of 50+ new Barbie products including character costumes, based in the recent and upcoming Barbie DVD titles including: Barbie as Princess Genevieve; Barbie in The 12 Dancing Princesses; Barbie Fairytopia: Magic of the Rainbow (spring 2007); and a new Barbie princess themed movie (fall 2007).  Disguise’s parent company Cesar has worked with Mattel Europe marketing Barbie costumes throughout Europe over the last decade.
