WE tv is a TOP 10 cable network in primetime!
WE tv’s Wedding Sunday was its best night ever in primetime: WE tv. Simply Fascinating. Cynopsis
Good morning. It’s Thursday, November 12, 2009, and this is your first early morning briefing. And as always, if you prefer to watch this morning’s news instead of reading it, click here. Tonight’s Premiere: While hosting his show last night, CNN anchor Lou Dobbs announced live on the air to viewers just after 7p ET he is resigning his position at CNN effective immediately. Dobbs’ contract was not set to expire until the end of 2011, though he confirmed Wednesday night CNN was willing to let him out of his contract early. Increasingly, Dobbs and his anti-immigration views have made him a controversial figure on CNN and within the political landscape. Dobbs has been a fixture on CNN since its beginning with the exception of a two-year stint at a website called Space.com. Dobbs’ career via his CNN show and his radio show, has transformed his persona from a business news anchor to an outspoken commentator whose opinions have drawn much fire and ire. During last night’s show, Dobbs said this about his departure and future: “Some leaders in the media, politics and business have been urging me to go beyond my role here at CNN and engage in constructive problem-solving,” said Dobbs. “I’m considering a number of options and directions.” ~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~
FOX decided the Joss Whedon drama Dollhouse is no more. FOX took the series off its schedule during November sweeps though has committed to air all 13 episodes starting up again December 4. FOX’s comedy Brothers was also taken off the air and is waiting to hear its fate. FOX previously gave frosh musical series Glee a full season order and added more scripts to Lie To Me. ABC followed suit and pulled the frosh comedy Hank off the air. Lately, ABC has pre-empted the show to make way for specials. In Hank’s time slot of 8p on Wednesdays, ABC will air a combo of comedy repeats and holiday specials. To date, ABC has handed full season orders to the other new comedies on Wednesday night: The Middle, Modern Family and Cougar Town. NBC announced it will premiere and air all episodes of its a cappella singing competition series The Sing-Off over a one-week time frame, cites Variety. The series will debut over four nights starting December 14 with a two-hour show at 8p, with two other two-hour episodes on December 15 and 16, ending with a two-hour conclusion on December 21. The Sing-Off, produced by Tenth Planet Productions, Outlaw Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television, follows eight a cappella groups performing familiar songs and competing for a recording contract from Sony Music’s Epic label. The CW will keep all original episodes flowing on Monday nights from mid-January through May 2010 with new episodes of Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill and the upcoming drama Life UneXpected. The revolving schedule will begin with Life UneXpected and its premiere on January 18 at 9p following One Tree Hill, back with new episodes at 8p. Starting March 8, Life UneXpected will switch to 8p with new episodes of Gossip Girl returning at 9p. Life UneXpected will air its finale on April 19 and the broadcast season will finish up with One Tree Hill at 8p and Gossip Girl at 9p. Spike TV introduces audiences early to its college football player character, Thad Castle, star of the new original comedy series Blue Mountain State. The network is launching a multi-platform marketing campaign this month under the banner “Thad Castle For College Player of the Year” even though the series doesn’t debut until January 12. Details about where Thad will be seen include a 40 x 40 billboard in New York’s Times Square with a call-to-action phone number; a three-minute viral promotional video featuring testimonials from current and former college coaches; info at website bms.spike.com; a :30 version of the video airing on Spike through various dayparts and also on ESPN’s College Football game coverage; and a college road tour in November where the network will visit 14 campuses to distribute Blue Mountain State promotional items. Blue Mountain State, with thirteen half-hour episodes produced by Varsity Pictures and Lionsgate, is Spike TV’s first original scripted comedy series. The plot focuses on three freshman football players as they navigate and adapt at a college with a prominent football club. Ed Marinaro stars along with Darin Brooks, Sam Jones III, Alan Richtson, Romanski and Gabrielle Dennis. TV Land committed to a third season of its original reality model competition series She’s Got The Look. The series is moving to Los Angeles with the new episodes premiering in 2010 where beautiful, confident women 35+ compete to win a modeling career. TV Land also reupped its partnerships with SELF Magazine and Wilhelmina Models, Inc. Open casting calls begin December 6 in Los Angeles followed by others in New York on December 12; Memphis on December 13; and Columbus, OH on December 15. For more information on casting for the show’s third season, visit TVLandPrime.com. Allison Grodner executive produces together with Rich Meehan under their new production company, Fly On The Wall Entertainment. In honor of its annual “Green Week” through its “Green is Universal” initiative, many of NBC’s primetime shows beginning November 15 will spotlight “green” story lines. The participating shows with green themes include 30 Rock, The Biggest Loser, Community, The Office and Heroes.

FOX approved a new game show, Our Little Genius from Mark Burnett in association with ZOO Productions, producers of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?. The game show features real child prodigies, from 6 to 12 years old, answering increasingly difficult questions and trying to win hundreds of thousands of dollars for their families. The caveat at play is how far the little geniuses keep going will depend on the parents who gauge how a panel of leading experts, from Ivy League professors to world-famous doctors and scientists perform with the same questions. If a child is pulled by the parent, the tiny genius can still try to answer the question to prove his/her amazing ability. The host of Our Little Genius will be announced at an upcoming date. Families interested in participating with their little genius can send inquiries to Casting Call: ABC’s reality series The Bachelorette is currently casting for the next season and is looking for attractive, outgoing singles that have personality-plus between 21 and 40 years old. The show is looking for the 25 guys as well as the bachelorette.
