~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Michael Jackson Memorial Coverage US Results:

  • Nielsen reports 31.1 million US viewers watched coverage of Michael Jackson’s public memorial service on Tuesday. The event was carried live from approximately 1p to 4p ET on 18 broadcast and cable networks with a combined household rating of 20.6. The participating networks were ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, Telefutura, Telemundo, Univision, CNN, Fox News Channel, MSNBC, HLN, BET, E!, MTV, VH1, VH1 Classic, TV Guide Network and TV One. Michael Jackson’s memorial coverage in the US trails that of Princess Diana’s 1997 funeral which totaled 33.2 million and Ronald Reagan’s funeral in 2004 with 35 million viewers.

Worldwide Michael Jackson Coverage also achieved stellar results:

  • In the UK, approximately 6.3 million viewers on average watched Michael Jackson’s memorial on Tuesday over five channels with BBC2’s coverage garnering the highest share with an average of 4 million viewers. The overall viewer number did not come close though, to the 11 million UK viewers who watched Michael Jackson tribute shows over six channels on June 26.

And per Variety:

  • In Germany, an estimated 20 million viewers watched over numerous channels with ProSiebenSat. 1’s N24 drawing the most viewers with its all-day coverage.
  • Mediaset’s Italia 1 channel in Italy posted a 15.7% audience share or 15 million viewers.
  • Spanish channel Cuatro delivered an 11.7% share and 1.1 million viewers with its special on Michael Jackson.
  • In France, the memorial aired live on TF1, France 2 and M6 totaling a 51.2% audience share.

Additionally, Nielsen cites Michael Jackson’s memorial created a big stir online Tuesday, ranking as the third most-discussed topic ever at 3% of conversations. The synergy between television and the web also created buzz as almost 15% of all online conversations about Michael Jackson also referenced a broadcast or social network.

TLC trots out the tots with a second season of Toddlers and Tiaras beginning July 22 at 10p. During 13 new episodes from Authentic Entertainment, the series follows eager moms and dads and their little beauties on the American child beauty pageant circuit including several pageants produced by Gold Coast Pageants, the system which inspired the feature film Little Miss Sunshine.

Bravo serves up a sixth season of Top Chef this time in Sin City as Top Chef: Las Vegas premieres August 26 at 9p. Seventeen “chef’testants” vie for the title of Top Chef, $100,000 in cash and other top prizes. This new season also features top celebrities in the areas of food, films and entertainment making appearances such as Wolfgang Puck, Natalie Portman, Nigella Lawson among others. Padma Lakshmi returns as well as head judge Tom Colicchio and judges Gail Simmons and Toby Young. Magical Elves produces Top Chef: Las Vegas.

Food Network premieres a new primetime series Chefs vs. City August 7 at 10p. In each weekly episode, the chef team of Chris Cosentino and Aaron Sanchez journey to a different US city and challenge two well-known local foodies to a culinary battle. Throughout the season, the duo will travel to New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Chicago, Boston and New Orleans.

Fans of FOX’s Dollhouse will have to wait an extra week as the network slated season two to open September 25 at 9p. Previously, FOX scheduled the drama to debut on September 18. Series creator and executive producer Joss Whedon will write and direct the first episode which launches the plotline for the sophomore season. Dollhouse is produced by 20th Century Fox Television.

New series premiere results for last Tuesday night:

  • ABC Family’s new original comedy 10 Things I Hate About You debuted at 8p with 509,000 A18-34, 734,000 A18-49 and 1.6 million total viewers.
  • Along with its rebranding effort, Syfy premiered new original scripted series Warehouse 13 at 9p. The two-hour episode drew in 1.3 million A18-49, 1.7 million A25-54 and 3.5 million total viewers, making Syfy the most-watched ad-supported cable network in primetime.
