Cynopsis: Kids!
07/20/06
Good morning. It’s Thursday, July 20, 2006 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.
ReelTimeTV has unveiled plans to launch Reeltime Kids TV, a new service featuring programming content for kids (preschoolers-teens). Scheduled to launch before the end of the year, at the outset the Reeltime Kids service will be housed on the main website (www.reeltimetv.net) under the children’s and family TV and movie headings, with plans to movie it to its own domain, where kids will only have access to content labeled appropriate for them. While the pricing will vary, ReelTime Kids will also include some free content in addition to the paid content. So, what shows be available? No specific titles were announced, but we are told to expect new and current live action and animated TV shows, classic cartoons. ReelTimeTV is part of ReelTime Rentals, Inc., a web-based movie/TV rental subscription service.
The BBC laid out changes in the media company’s organizational structure yesterday. As part of the BBC’s Creative Future strategy introduced earlier this year, the new structure is designed to deliver program content to viewers across multiple platforms. Expected to be in place by April 2007 the hope is to simplify the BBC’s creative program development and production process and streamline funding across the company by establishing a more open BBC with the license-fee flowing down simple, direct lines to the right people, a simpler structure, clearer responsibilities and fewer layers.
NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
Christian Slater, Steve Buscemi and John Cleese have joined the cast of Exodus Film Group’s CG animated movie Igor. Slater will lend his voice to the title character of Igor, the lab assistant; Buscemi will be Scamper, a really smart and bad tempered lab rabbit; while Cleese will be the voice of Dr. Glickenstein, Igor’s cruel and unpleasant master. Based on a screenplay by Chris McKenna and produced by Jon D. Eraklis and Max Howard, the movie is an irreverent comedy that revolves around Igor, who has his own dream: to become a scientist himself and win the top prize at the Evil Science Fair. The Weinstein Company holds the worldwide distribution rights to the movie.

Nickelodeon has expanded its healthy food and lifestyle initiative, which includes the use of its animated characters on fresh fruit and vegetable packing, by entering into new multi-year licensing deals with Barton & Sons, Reichel Foods and Seapoint Farms. SpongeBob, Dora, The Backyardigans, Blue’s Clues and Avatar will be among the characters that will appear on packaging of apples and pears beginning this fall, followed in 2007 by cherries, edamame, the launch of Nick Stix Carrots & Dip and Apples & Dip.
