Radio Disney hosts the world premiere of the soundtrack from Disney’s feature film Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience on Saturday, February 21 from 7p, during the net’s Planet Premiere feature. The broadcast will feature an interview with the brothers. Hollywood Records will release the soundtrack to the movie on February 24. Additionally, Jonas Brothers new comedy series is set to premiere in May on Disney Channel.
Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Pokemon US team for the new feature-length animated movie, Pokemon: Giratina and the Sky Warrior, set for release on DVD in North America on March 31, 2009.
MARKETING/LICENSING
Cartoon Network Enterprises (CNE) expands the hardlines and softlines programs for Bakugan with new partners announced at Toy Fair in NYC and The Magic Marketplace show in Las Vegas respectively. CNE is Nelvana’s exclusive US licensing agent for Bakugan. Bakugan is a co-production from Sega Toys, Spin Master, Nelvana Enterprises, TMS Entertainment, Japan Vistec Inc. and Sega Corporation, with animation by Japan Vistec Inc. and TMS Entertainment. Bakugan airs in the US on Cartoon Network on Monday – Friday at 8a.
- Hardlines: Beginning this spring, The Canadian Group introduces a line of games and puzzles; Basic Fun introduces branded keychains; Cra-z-Art Corporation, a unit of LaRose Industries, releases figure markers, tattoos, roller desk, poster art among others; for fall Dynatech debuts 2D and 3D projectors, flashlights and snow sleds.
- Softlines: Kids Headquarters is named the sportswear partner for Bakugan with a line that includes sets, separates and outerwear for spring 2009; AME, a division of LF USA will launch hanging underwear for spring 2009; E.S. Originals releases a line of footwear (athletics, flip flops, slippers) available now; Berkshire introducing cold weather accessories, headwear, hosiery, slipper socks and packaged underwear for fall 2009; and MZ Berger developing Bakugan braded kid watches and clocks for back to school.
Midway Games Inc., has entered into a strategic relationship with Ubisoft to publish Wheelman, the upcoming open-world driving game starring Vin Diesel as an expert driver for hire. Set for release in North America on March 24 and Europe on March 27 for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Windows PC, Ubisoft will handle sales, marketing, and distribution of the title in North America, South America, Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Austria, Ireland and the United Kingdom. Midway will continue to direct the development of the title and retains all future rights to the franchise and will sell the title in all other European territories. In the US Wheelman carries and ESRB rating of T for Teen.
EXECUTIVE MOVES
Cary Glotzer and Michael Yudin join to form MY-Tupelo Entertainment, a new multi-platform development/production company, with both gentlemen serving as Co-Presidents. The NYC-based venture is the result of combining Glotzer’s and Yudin’s existing companies, MY Entertainment Company and Tupelo-Honey Productions, which is owned by SCP Worldwide. Joe Townley is named as COO of MY-Tupelo. While much of MY-Tupelo Ent’s current development and production slate is for adults, the company does produce the series Kids Clubhouse for SportsNet New York.
ION Media Networks appoints Leslie Glenn Chesloff to the new position of EVP/Programming. Based in NYC, Chesloff will oversee the development of original content as well as all program acquisitions and scheduling for ION Television. Chesloff was most recently SVP/Planning, Scheduling and Acquisitions, Lifetime Entertainment Services.
Amberwood Entertainment Corporation makes several executive moves. Jonathan Wiseman is promoted to SVP. He will be responsible for creative content on all productions as well as continuing to manage all sales and marketing activities for the Amberwood. Craig Young is appointed to the new position of VP/Production. Additionally, Michelle Jackman is named Sales and Marketing Coordinator for the company.
American Greetings Properties promotes four executives:
- Mackenzie Glass promoted to Creative Director/Design
- Kelly Grupczynski named Creative Director/Illustration
- Tony Chien upped to Director/Marketing
- Lisa Wascovich promoted to Director/Digital Media
Glass, Grupczynski and Wascovich are based in American Greetings’ headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio, while Chien is based in the New York City office, where responsibility for the brand management, marketing functions and outbound licensing resides. All four will report to Jeffrey Conrad, SVP/Consumer Products, AGP.
