Tuesday night’s Presidential Address at 8p, President Obama’s seventh in primetime delivered an average audience of 40.7 million viewers and a combined HH rating of 25.9. The network’s carrying the speech live included ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, Univision, Telemundo, CNBC, CNN, FOX News Channel and MSNBC.
FX’s extended 90-minute season two finale of Sons of Anarchy drew in 4.33 million total viewers and 2.99 million A18-49 viewers. This episode became the most-watched ever for the series, topping its season two premiere of 4.29 million total viewers. Furthermore, FX announced 13 episodes were ordered for the series’ third season, slated to debut in September 2010. Creator/executive producer Kurt Sutter also made a new two-year deal with FX to continue as showrunner on Sons of Anarchy. For the show’s third season, all season regulars have signed on to return. The series is produced by Fox 21 and FX Productions.
ABC is switching its schedule, moving Ugly Betty to Wednesdays at 10p as of January 6 as part of its ABC Comedy Wednesday. Additionally, the entrepreneurial competition series Shark Tank rejoins ABC’s schedule on January 8 at 9p.
Speaking about the format of Oprah Winfrey’s upcoming show on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, CEO Christina Norman said it will not mimic her current syndicated talk show. “Her show as you know it is not coming to OWN … Pieces of that show we’re going to want to find ways to retain, but I don’t think the format exists in anyone’s mind right now,” said Norman. Winfrey’s show will focus on “moments of self-discovery.” What will Oprah do on OWN? “Anything she wants” says Norman.
Syfy is rolling out a new 30m comedy series, Outer Space Astronauts next Tuesday at 930p. The series, created and executive produced by Russell Barrett was developed, executed and edited in Barrett’s home, using computer graphics and 3D animation. The five-part series also features Barrett’s Oklahoma childhood and hometown friends. Episodes will air each Tuesday night at 9p following the premiere on December 8.
TLC will air a sneak preview of Four Weddings on December 18 at 10p with the series premiering January 30 at 10p. Ten episodes of Four Weddings are produced by TLC and Executive Produced by ITV Studios.
The Style Network kicks off the New Year with a new season of its makeover series How Do I Look? with ten new episodes beginning January 2 at 8p. Host and fashion guru Jeannie Mai is back along with the friends and family of the fashion-challenged participant to affect positive and permanent changes through a new hairstyle, clothes, makeup and confidence. Following the season premiere of How Do I Look?, The Style Network debuts new series What I Hate About Me? at 9p.
HGTV will launch a weekly makeover series of a different kind as Outdoor Room premieres on January 1 at 10p. The series showcases the outdoor design style of Australian Jamie Durie, a well-known environmentalist and landscape architect. The episodes will makeover ho-hum backyards, creating an outdoor oasis for each homeowner. Following the debut episode, Outdoor Room will air on Saturdays at 9p starting January 2.
Bravo is bringing back a third season of its hair-styling competition series Shear Genius beginning February 3 at 11p. The show has a new host with international model and handbag designer Camila Alves who is paired with new series judge Jonathan Antin, celebrity stylist who starred in the Bravo series Blow Out. Stylist Kim Vo will return as judge and stylist Orlando Pita joins the cast as mentor to the contestants. Shear Genius will follow 12 stylists competing for $100,000 in prize money courtesy of Nexxus Salon Hair Care and an apprenticeship with Nexxus and the opportunity to style hair for an Allure magazine photo shoot. Reveille produces the series for Bravo.
Oxygen’s fourth season opener of Bad Girls Club on Tuesday night at 10p holds the distinction of being the series’ most-watching season premiere ever with A18-49, W18-49 and total viewers. The episode attracted 611,000 A18-49; 431,000 W18-49; and 874,000 total viewers.
Comcast will likely launch its online video service under the new name of Fancast Xfinity TV, cites B&C, though the new service may use the simplified name of Xfinity. Originally the service was named OnDemand Online at its initial announcement earlier this year. Comcast already secured Xfinity.com and several similar websites as well as the Twitter feed at Twitter.com/Xfinity in addition to having a commercial ready to promote the new product.

CBS Television Distribution (CTD) said the new syndicated strip series Swift Justice With Nancy Grace has been sold in 80% of the US as part of a two-year deal. Swift Justice With Nancy Grace will air as two back-to-back half-hours, airing mostly in the afternoon and in early fringe time periods and will launch in fall 2010. The series was picked up by such station groups as Fox Television Stations, Tribune Broadcasting, Sinclair Broadcast Group, CBS Television Stations, LIN TV, Cox Television, Local TV, Meredith, Media General, Gannett and Newport, among others. Swift Justice With Nancy Grace has also cleared on FOX affiliates in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.
HBO’s True Blood series added three to the cast. New actor Theo Alexander joins as Talbot an “intensely beautiful” vampire who is the boyfriend of Russell Edgington, the vampire king of Mississippi. Grant Bowler, recently seen on ABC’s Ugly Betty will play Coot, a werewolf and a ringleader of a biker gang. Recently announced Marshall Allman (Prison Break) joins as a regular, playing Sam’s long-lost younger brother. True Blood is currently in production on its third season in Los Angeles.
NBC has a legal series in development based on real-life lawyer Tom Goldstein, who has argued 21 cases in front of the Supreme Court and is a partner in the Washington, D.C. law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, reports Variety. The project titled Tommy Supreme is from Universal Media Studios and Circle of Confusion, purchasers of the life rights to Goldstein. Barry Schindel will executive produce with Circle of Confusion’s David Alpert and Daven Engel; Goldstein will be a consultant on the project.
BBC Worldwide made a two-year first-look distribution agreement with independent production company Nutopia. Under the deal terms, BBC Worldwide will get a first-look at all of Nutopia’s upcoming programming titles for international distribution, outside of the US and the UK. Nutopia is currently producing the 12-part series America The Story of US for HISTORY.

Monday A18-49 Analysis: FOX closed out the month of November Monday night on top with A18-49 at 3.8/9, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, FOX’s House was a new episode and scored with viewers at 4.8/12 followed by ABC presenting repeats of two holiday favorites averaging a 2.8/7. CBS’ encore sitcoms Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory came in first at 9p with an average rating of 3.2/8 with FOX’s Lie To Me in second at 2.7/6. Then at 10p, CBS’ CSI: Miami rerun held its usual #1 spot at 2.5/7 with ABC’s Castle repeat next at 1.6/4.

Tuesday A18-49 Analysis: NBC was the top network Tuesday night among A18-49 at 3.5/9, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. Most networks pre-empted their regular primetime programming from 8-830p or 8-9p for the live Presidential Address with no ratings data available. In the 8p hour, though, FOX did best with So You Think You Can Dance from 830-9p at 2.2/6 and the CBS News Analysis of the Presidential speech came next at 1.6/5. NBC then took control at 9p with The Biggest Loser at 3.6/9 followed by CBS’ NCIS repeat at 2.7/7. Also this hour, ABC premiered a new season of Scrubs at 2.0/5 at 9p and a second helping at 930p retaining the same rating/share at 2.0/5. NBC was rock solid through 10p with The Biggest Loser at 3.9/10 while the CBS special Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show sashayed into second place at 2.9/8.
