Election 2012: Entravision Communications Corporation will offer Latino communities coverage of the Republican and Democratic National Conventions. This week at the RNC, Entravision’s news teams from WVEA/Tampa and WVEN/Orlando will be in Tampa to provide daily updates from the convention floor with coverage headed by anchor Gonzalo Alvarado and reports from Marina Marraco, Lorena Inclan, Natalie Perez and Ana Pereira. Coverage will be broadcast nationwide on Entravision’s nightly newscasts. For the DNC next week, a team of correspondents will also travel to Charlotte. Furthermore, Entravision’s weekly public affairs show, Perspectiva Nacional con Armando Guzman will be on location at each convention.
ABC renewed reality series Wipeout for a sixth season which will include its 100th episode set to air in 2012-13. The new season will be hosted by John Anderson, John Henson and co-hosted by Jill Wagner. Endemol USA produces the series.
For 2013, Bravo Media renewed It’s a Brad, Brad World for a second season featuring fashion stylist Brad Goreski and offers up a new series Courtney Loves Dallas. The latter series stars Courtney Kerr of Most Eligible Dallas as she traverses the Dallas social scene with her friends in this docu-series. It’s a Brad, Brad World is produced by Shed Media U.S. and Television 360 while Courtney Loves Dallas is from Pink Sneakers Productions.
Charlie Sheen’s sitcom Anger Management on FX received a 90-episode order from the network. FX says Anger Management has averaged 4.53 million total viewers and 2.5 million among A18-49. Once Anger Management met a designated average ratings bar for the airings of eight of the first ten episodes, then an automatic 90-episode order was triggered by FX. Martin Sheen will also join the cast of Anger Management in a recurring role playing Martin Goodson, Charlie’s father. Lionsgate Television produces the series that is distributed by Debmar-Mercury.
Soon after debuting season two, Syfy ordered a 20-episode third season of Paranormal Witness which is slated to return in June 2013. The second season debuted on August 8 and to date the first three episodes of this current season averaged 1.2 million total viewers. Paranormal Witness airs on Wednesdays at 10p and is produced by Raw TV.
Spanish-language lifestyle network, Utilisima offers up several new and returning original series in September. Mi Bebe, offering advice for expectant parents, has 26 half-hour episodes beginning next Monday and will air Monday-Friday at 1130a; on September 10 a second season of Tu Vida Mas Simple will debut and air each Monday at 6p; interview show, Que Piensan Los Hombres? hosted by Araceli Gonzalez will air each Sunday at 9p; and in addition Utilisima will air a four-episode run of Locos Del Remate beginning this Sunday at 4p.
E!’s Ross Mathews will be reporting from both the Republic and Democratic Conventions offering the network’s perspective on issues and cultural news. Pop And Politics segments will air during E! News during the next two months leading up to the November 6 election. Mathews will also report from the convention floor and cover the parties and the celebrities in attendance at both conventions.
Last Saturday, Nat Geo WILD debuted a second season of The Incredible Dr. Pol at 10p which averaged a 0.3 rating among A25054. In addition, an estimated 455,000 total viewers tuned in as well as 199,000 A25-54 viewers. The Incredible Dr. Pol airs on Saturdays at 10p.
WeatherNation TV, Inc., the 24/7 television network offering local, regional and national weather made an affiliation deal with TransAmerica Broadcasting Corporation to have WeatherNation on KAIL-TV’s digital channel in the Fresno market beginning this Saturday.
The Inspirations Networks (INSP) made a multi-year deal with NBCUniversal Cable and New Media Distribution for the exclusive basic cable rights for classic TV series The Virginian. 2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the western series and INSP will launch The Virginian with an all-day marathon on September 22 at 1p. The series joins the Saturday schedule starting September 29 and The Virginian will air during the Monday-Friday entertainment block.

CBS handed a script order to the multi-camera comedy The Second Coming of Rob from The Big Bang Theory’s John Ross Bowie and Kevin Sussman. The comedy is loosely based on Bowie’s life and Bowie and Sussman will co-executive produce and write the ensemble comedy about a recent divorcee who wants a do-over on his 20s when he reunites with his college friends after being married for seven years. Peter Principato, Paul Young and Joel Zadak are all serving as EPs with Jill McGrath producing.
ABC gave a pilot order to S.H.I.E.L.D from Joss Whedon who will co-write the project that is based on the Marvel comic, per THR. The project will be produced by ABC Studios and is based on the long-running comic created by Jack Kirby and is about the secret military law enforcement agency named S.H.I.E.L.D which translates to Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistic Directorate. Jed Whedon will also co-write the project with his wife, Maurissa Tancharoen. Production on the live-action project begins immediately with Joss and Jed Whedon and Tancharoen all as EPs with Jeffrey Bell and Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb.
Independent studio Entertainment One (eOne) is partnering with Steve Lanning and Philip Hobbs to develop and produce two projects for television, Downslope and God Fearing Man from the late filmmaker Stanley Kubrick. Downslope was written by Kubrick and based on a true story told by Civil War historian Shelby Foote is about Confederate Army Colonel John S. Mosby and his plot to settle the score after Custer captures and hangs several of his men. God Fearing Man is based on a screenplay by Kubrick and adapted for television by British screenwriter Stephen R. Clarke is about the true story of Canadian minister Herbert Emerson Wilson who became one of the best safe-crackers and bank robbers in America during the early 20th century. Both projects will be produced by Entertainment One is association with Philco Films’ Steve Lanning and Philip Hobbs. Michael Rosenberg and Adam Blumberg will oversee the projects for eOne; Bill Kelman will also be an executive producer. eOne will additionally handle worldwide rights to the series across all media.
Sony Pictures Television and executive producer Shawn Ryan (The Last Resort) and actor Eddie Murphy are shopping a television version of Beverly Hills Cop, the 1984 film from Paramount that starred Murphy. The duo took their pitch to broadcast networks this week.
Showtime is developing a female-centric military drama titled Girls With Guns (wt) from Robert and Michelle King, the creators of CBS’ The Good Wife. The drama is about two sisters from Los Angeles whose family moves to the one place in the world where women are drafted into the military: Israel. Ridley Scott and David Zucker will serve as EPs for Scott Free Productions along with the Kings who will write the project under their three-year overall deal with CBS Television Studios.
Tricon Films & Television has more than 25 hours of series production set to premiere this fall: Restaurant Takeover with 13 one-hour episodes debuts today on Food Network Canada; Ex-Wives of Rock with 14 half-hours premieres with back-to-back eps this Friday on Slice; a second season of Love Trap with 20 half-hours opens September 5 on Cosmo TV; a third season of Bitchin’ Kitchen with 16 half-hours plus a one-hour special launches September 26 on Cooking Channel US; and Pop-Up Gourmet with a half-hour special premieres on OWN September 4.
Paperny Entertainment, based in Vancouver has commenced production on new original series Yukon Gold for HISTORY Canada. The series has 10 one-hour episodes and will premiere in early 2013 on HISTORY Canada.

Tuesday A18-49 Analysis: FOX notched a narrow win Tuesday at 2.1/6 A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, Univision won with Por Ella Soy Eva at 1.6/5 with FOX’s MasterChef repeat next at 1.4/5. FOX’s new installment of MasterChef at 9p won at 2.8/8 though NBC’s America’s Got Talent was nipping close at 2.7/7. Then at 10p, Univision beat all with Amor Bravio at 1.4/4 ahead of the other broadcast networks and their RNC coverage though NBC came in second with its Decision 2012 at 1.0/3.

FremantleMedia, the production company behind American Idol, The X Factor and America’s Got Talent named Thom Beers as CEO, FremantleMedia North America. Thom is currently CEO and Executive Producer at Fremantle-owned Original Productions. In his new position, Thom will be based in Los Angeles reporting to Cecile Frot-Coutaz who was named CEO of the London-based company in April. Thom will supervise around 600 hours of programming and manage an executive team that includes COO Donna Redier Linsk and Trish Kinane, President/Entertainment Programming.
Fox Broadcasting Company (FOX) elevated Joe Earley to COO responsible for all facets of the network including scripted programming, casting, scheduling, research, audience strategy, digital and business affairs as well as heading marketing and communications. Joe will report to Kevin Reilly, Chairman/Entertainment, FOX and Mike Darnell, President/Alternative Entertainment also reports to Kevin Reilly. Joe has been with FOX since 1994 starting out as a Senior Publicist.
Noriko Gee advances to SVP/Programming Planning and Scheduling with CBS and she reports to Kelly Kahl, SEVP, CBS Primetime. Previously, Noriko had been VP/Program Planning and Scheduling since April 2010.
Amy Osler was elevated to SVP/Music at CBS Television Studios. Amy is the liaison between the Network/Studio and the music industry. She is also in charge of finding new and established performers whose music or personal appearances can be integrated into programming across all series. Amy will continue to report to David Stapf, President, CBS Television Studios.
Starz Entertainment promoted two executives based in Beverly Hills. Marta Fernandez and Karen Bailey are upped to SVPs/Original Programming where both oversee new development and current productions.
Merrill Brown has joined Montclair State University located in New Jersey as the institution’s first Director of its School of Communication and Media. Merrill comes to Montclair State from MMB Media LLC where he was founder and principal.
Universal Sports Network tapped Kevin Johnson as Director/Digital Media and TV Endemic Sales. Based in New York, Kevin will report to Jeff Clachko, VP/Universal Sports Sales and Sponsorships.
