~ MORE STUFF  ~

Yesterday, NBC Sports revealed its Football Night in America studio show will sport a new look and location for the upcoming new season. The show, which precedes NBC Sunday Night Football each Sunday at 7p, will move from a studio setting to the actual game site helmed by sports host veteran Bob Costas who will be joined by Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth. Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann, who reunited last year on Football Night, will continue to co-host based at NBC’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza studios. They will be joined by former Super Bowl coach Tony Dungy, two-time Super Bowl winner Rodney Harrison and Peter King of Sports Illustrated. Additionally, Tiki Barber will again report from the site of one of the NFL’s big games. NBC kicks off the NFL’s regular season on September 10 as the defending Super Bowl winners, the Pittsburgh Steelers go up against the Tennessee Titans at 8p. The first NBC Sunday Night Football matchup is September 13 at 8p as the Chicago Bears take on the Green Bay Packers, preceded by Football Night in America.

Programming notes: Several networks have juggled their schedules to include specials remembering the life and career of Senator Ted Kennedy.

  • MSNBC will rebroadcast its new special The Kennedy Brothers: A Hardball Documentary tonight at 7p.
  • Also tonight, BIO Channel will air the special Bio Remembers: Ted Kennedy at 9p.

ABC’s The View lined up several guest co-stars in September as fill-ins for regular co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck who is on maternity leave until mid-October. Right after the show’s new season premieres on September 8, Meghan McCain, daughter of Sen. John McCain will do a guest stint September 9 and 10; Kate Gosselin, star of TLC’s Jon & Kate Plus 8 was announced yesterday as fill-in for September 14 and 15; LaToya Jackson is slated to appear September 16 and 18; and former Fox News Channel anchor E.D. Hill is scheduled for September 23 and 24.

Showtime debuts new seasons of its series Dexter and Californication in Canada next month. On Astral Media’s The Movie Network (Eastern Canada) and Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central (Western Canada) the fourth season of Dexter opens September 27 at 10p and a third season of Californication begins September 28 at 10p.

Correction: TNT’s mid-season finale of Leverage will air September 9. We had incorrectly stated in yesterday’s edition the finale was August 26.

Author and journalist Dominick Dunne, 83, died yesterday in Manhattan following a long battle with cancer. Dominick was best known for his best-selling novels including The Two Mrs. Grenvilles, his stories involving shocking crimes of the rich and famous as well as society news in magazine articles and his column in Vanity Fair magazine. He also became a household name covering high-profile court trials as a journalist including the 1994 OJ Simpson trial for cable TV and Vanity Fair. In 2002, he hosted his own weekly show on then Court TV called Power, Privilege and Justice. Dominick recently completed his last novel, Too Much Money which is due out this December.

Hear ye, hear ye … it’s the fifth annual Tim Nesvig Fellowship and Research Fund raffle. You remember this one — if you’re holding the winning raffle ticket, check out what you win:

2 tickets – 2010 Super Bowl
2 tickets – 2010 Rose Bowl
2 tickets – 2009 World Series (American or National park)
2 tickets – BCS National Championship Game
2 tickets – Daytona 500
2 tickets – NCAA Basketball Final 4
2 tickets – Indianapolis 500
2 tickets – The NBA Finals.
2 tickets – MLB All Star Game

That’s right, two tickets to every single one of those events! Holy smokes! And the money all goes to the Tim Nesvig Fellowship. Can’t beat that. Here’s how it works – raffle tickets are $100 each, drawing to be held on October 13 at Westchester Country Club (winner need not be present). If you’re interested, raffle tickets are available to purchase by calling the tournament hotline at 213 241-7111 or emailing Julie Filkoff at
. The raffle tickets themselves are limited, so no dawdling. Also, when you call, ask about the 2009 City of Hope Golf Classic benefiting the Tim Nesvig Fellowship and Research Fund being held 10/13/09 at the Westchester Country Club in NY. They’re looking for foursomes, sponsors, dinner ticket buyers and auction items! Good luck!

~  PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT  ~

MTV is producing a handful of original movies developed specifically for the MTV audience. Films in production include:

  • My Super Psycho Sweet 16 – horror movie slated to air in late October following its theatrical run.
  • Turn The Beat Around – set in Los Angeles in the competitive world of dance.

One original movie in development:

  • MADE – Comedy based on the MTV series about a popular cheerleader helping a band geek reach her dream of making the squad.

ABC has a new untitled multi-camera comedy in the works from executive producer Garland Testa (King of the Hill), reports THR. ABC gave the project about a young married couple with kids who try to keep the fun in their lives a script commitment with penalty. 20th Century Fox Television will produce where Testa has an overall deal.

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  After battling for years with Dish Network over the same issue, Tivo announced it has filed new lawsuits against AT&T and Verizon over DVR patent infringement, including one covering the ability to pause and rewind live TV. The company also reported a smaller-than-expected Q2 loss yesterday as revenue fell by 12% to $57.4 million on fewer subscriptions, down to 3.05 million from 3.62 million a year earlier. Meanwhile, The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office dismissed TiVo’s petition to cease a re-examination of its patents, Dish and Echostar said in a statement.     Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.
