Job cuts within NBC News and MSNBC are expected to begin today, with 15-20 positions getting pink slipped in a wide range of areas within the news division. According to a statement from NBC News, “There’s an ongoing process at NBC News to reallocate, reorganize and right-size the division given the business pressures that every major media organization is facing.”

Bravo renewed two series for second seasons in 2008: Top Design and Shear Genius. Top Design will be retooled for the next season by Magical Elves, the production company behind Bravo’s Top Chef and Project Runway. The hour-long Top Design shows off hot new interior designers, artists and architects each week as they vie for a $100,000 grand prize. Shear Genius, with host Jaclyn Smith and produced by Reveille, has hair stylists competing for another $100,000 top prize.

Late-Night Ratings Snapshot: During November Sweep, late night talkers were in reruns for the bulk of the sweep due to the WGA strike.  At the end of the day, ABC’s Nightline topped CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman with total viewers, while NBC’s Tonight Show with Jay Leno still lead the pack. All three networks tied with ratings among A25-54. Here are the final late-night results:
NBC: 4.03 million total viewers and 1.5 A25-54
ABC: 3.81 million total viewers and 1.5 A25-54
CBS: 3.71 million total viewers and 1.5 A25-54

BET‘s Sunday Best finale Tuesday night (8p) was presented live and drew in more than 1.7 million total viewers.

World Wrestling Entertainment extended its existing contract for another two years with USA Network and WWE Monday Night RAW will remain on USA through 2010. In addition, WWE will continue with the weekend program A.M. RAW, and a Spanish-language version of Monday Night RAW for Telemundo and mun2, as well as provide NBC with two specials per year for Saturday late night.  A 15th anniversary, three-hour special of Monday Night RAW will air on USA next Monday at 8p.  

Scripps Networks’ Great American Country (GAC) added more than 8 million new subscribers in the last year and is now available to more than 52.6 million households. Two million of those new subscribers live in the New York metro area as GAC launched this month on Cablevision Systems. Other recent market additions include Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Dallas and Miami, making GAC available in each of the top 140 U.S. markets.

A new pilot project for ABC – Wipeout from Endemol USA is a gamer with 50 players in the world’s largest obstacle course, each with an eye on a $50k cash prize.   Wipeout is described as “Fear Factor with none of the gross,” another Endemol show.

NBC’s Peacock Productions made a deal with adventurer/environmentalist David de Rothschild to host environmental programming for the network’s nonfiction production division. First up, is a pilot for a Sundance Channel series that highlights how the environment impacts items pertaining to everyday life. Based in London, one of David’s most recent projects was leading an expedition to Ecuador’s rainforest region, documenting damage caused by international oil companies.

ABC Television Network hired Amul Shah as Associate Director/Digital Research to develop digital research projects in support of new business and other initiatives.

The Lippin Group recruited Jim Benson as SVP. Jim will manage the company’s corporate and emerging media clients in the U.S. and abroad while based in Los Angeles. Nicely done Jim!

Tennis Channel elevated David Scott to Executive Director/Acquisitions and Program Planning and Bob Whyley to Coordinating Producer. David will still divide his duties between completing network rights agreements and fine-tuning logistics for the launch of on-air programming. His new promotion adds supervising the Los Angeles programming operations to his responsibilities. David will continue to report to Victoria Quoss, EVP/Programming and Network Strategy. Bob will now head domestic tournament production, managing the technical and editorial details. He will also manage the network’s growing production department and operational functions that include planning, scheduling and other hi-def work. Bob continues to report directly to Larry Meyers, SVP/Production and Executive Producer.

LeslieAnne Wade advanced to SVP/Communications with CBS Sports to supervise the corporate and media relations functions for the company’s sports entities that include CBS Sports, CBSSports.com, CSTV and CSTV.com. She will also work with Showtime Sports and other sports properties under the CBS umbrella. LeslieAnne, who has been VP/Communications with CBS Sports since May 1998, continues to report to Gil Schwartz, EVP/Corporate Communications, CBS Corporation and Sean McManus, President, CBS News and Sports.

Bob Sacco has been upped to VP/Marketing with Travel Ad Network (TAN). Previously, Bob was VP/Sales and is a Co-Founder of the network and has been the company’s top sales executive since its launch in late 2003.

Wednesday – A18-49 Analysis: ABC was the leader Wednesday night with 3.2/9 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen Media Research. ABC’s annual holiday special, Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town won the 8p hour with 3.3/9. At 9p, ABC held onto #1 as Private Practice posted a winning 3.8/10. CBS was successful at 10p with the CSI: NY repeat at 2.8/8.
