Good morning. It’s Monday, September 15, 2008, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS) awarded the 2007-2008 Creative Arts Primetime Emmys for programs and individual achievements at the 6oth Annual Emmy Awards presentation at the Nokia Theatre L.A. live in Los Angeles.  The ceremony featured outstanding achievement for work in the kid/family entertainment community including:

Children’s Program (possibility of one, multiple or no awards)
Classical Baby (I’m Grown Up Now): The Poetry Show (HBO)
Nick News with Linda Ellerbee: The Untouchable Kids of India (Nickelodeon)

Emmy awards in 28 categories will be announced at the 2008 Primetime Emmy Awards, which will air live on Sunday, September 21 at 8p, on ABC, also from the Nokia Theatre L.A.  A full list of winners from the weekend as well as further information can be found at www.emmys.tv .

MORE KIDS STUFF

Disney Channel UK is developing a new animated comedy series, Gwyn (a working title), co-written by actor Giles New (two of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies) and Keiron Self (My Family), per Broadcast Now.  Based on a BBC Radio Wales project, the story revolves around a boy named Justin and how his life changes when Gwyn, a six-foot elf, explodes out of the boy’s closet with a pack of mythical creatures in hot pursuit of him.

Neptuno Films (Spain), animation producer/distributor, is partnering with Raisat (Italy) including the creation of a licensing and merchandising program for one of Neptuno’s series and the broadcast rights for two other series, per Animation World News.  Under the deal Neptuno and Raisat will develop a licensing program in Italy for Connie the Cow, which currently airs on Raisat.  Raisat will market and develop merchandising and publishing product lines for the series.  Additionally, Raisat picks up the broadcast rights to Neptuno Films’ preschool series, The Gloops (104×3) and Megaminimals (130×6), on its kid’s channel Raisat YoYo.

Cake Distribution and Fresh TV ink a new worldwide distribution deal for Fresh TV’s new Total Drama Action, the sophomore season of its animated reality series Total Drama Island.  Commissioned by Teletoon (Canada), Total Drama Action features 15 of the original contestants to a new location, a deserted film studio lot, where they take part in new challenges.  Additionally, the new season includes episodes where former contestants as well as fans comment on the current competition.  Currently in production, Total Drama Action is set for premiere in spring 2009.  Total Drama Island premiered on Teletoon and currently airs on Cartoon Network US.

Disney Channel premieres Studio DC hosted by Selena Gomez on Sunday, October 5 at 8p.  Gomez, one of the stars of Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place, hosts the music and sketch comedy show featuring the Muppets along with guests including performances by The Cheetah Girls in a dance number with Miss Piggy, and a duet from Demi Lovato and Beaker, meanwhile Fozzi Bear will gives Gomez a lesson in joke telling.  This is the second Studio DC special, the first, hosted by Dylan and Cole Sprouse, debuted in August.

BBC Worldwide Americas inks its largest programming content sale to Paraguay at BBC Showcase Latin America.  Broadcasters Telefuturo and Hispanoamerica TV del Paraguay acquired a range of programming (100 hours worth), including the kid-targeted animated series Animalia.  Based on the books by Graeme Base, Animalia is a Burberry, Lux Monkey, Double Base production for BBC in association with Porchlight Entertainment.

MARKETING/LICENSING

Scholastic Storybook Treasures is set to release the DVDs Make Way For Ducklings … and More Delightful Duck Stories and Harry The Dirty Dog … and More Playful Puppy Stories on Tuesday, September 30.  Based on noted author Robert McCloskey’s classic book, Make Way For Ducklings, the animated adaptation feature was one of the first productions from Weston Woods Studios in the 1950s.  Other stories on the Make Way For Ducklings DVD include The Story About Ping, The Ugly Duckling, Angus and the Ducks, and two additional stories Cat and Canary, Wings: A Tale of Two Chickens.  Harry the Dirty Dog is based on author Gene Zion’s Harry the Dirty Dog books.  The DVD’s other puppy stories include No Roses for Harry, Officer Buckle and Gloria, Dot the Fire Dog, as well as the Beast on monsieur Racine, Angus Lost, and the Spanish language version of Harry, Harry, el perrito sucio.

Nickelodeon and Broadway Across America have teamed to launch the newest Dora the Explorer live stage show, Dora the Explorer Live! Search for the City of Lost Toys in the US in 2009.  Targeted to preschoolers and their families, the live stage show will make stops in 4o cities across the country.

The BBC’s CBBC is setting out on the road across the UK this fall with an interactive exhibit for kids, See Me on CBBC.  The touring exhibit will allow kids will to see themselves on CBBC its website, play interactive games, try out a green screen, chat online and program show reels in the CBBC Green Room area.  The exhibit will feature CBBC series including The Sara Jane Adventures and the game show Escape From Scorpion Island.  Some of the demos made by kids during the See Me on CBBC tour will be featured at a later date on both CBBC TV and website.

Hasbro, Inc celebrates the 25th anniversary of its My Little Pony brand with The My Little Pony Project: 25 Ponies for 25 Years art gallery exhibition.  The one-night only event takes place this Thursday, September 18 at the Chelsea Art Museum in NYC, and will feature the collection of celebrity/designer/artist created ponies that will be up for auction to benefit Give Kids The World Village.  The exhibit features ponies created by Toki Doki, Jon Burgerman, and Tado, David Arquette and Courteney Cox, LeAnn Rimes, and Kimora Lee Simmons to name a few.  The public can participate in the Auction (September 18-October 2) by going to www.charityfolks.com/mylittlepony .

BRB Internacional ups Silvia Orellana to Director/Audiovisual Distribution.  She will be responsible for overseeing sales of productions in the BRB catalog, as well as supervising marketing and advertising efforts.

Jason Binks joins ITV Worldwide as VP/Digital and New Media.  Binks will oversee development of the company’s digital business (DTO, DTR, VOD) and identify new opportunities in the international market.  Additionally he will also support the TV and home entertainment sales teams and work with tech companies in this new environment.  Binks reports to Steve Gallant, Director/Global Content Publishing.  Binks was most recently toiled for ROO Media as Sr. Sales and Distribution Director, Europe.  He previously held business development positions at Groove Mobile, Hyperlaunch New Media, Buongiorno and DX3 Technologies.
