~ ELSEWHERE IN CYNOPSIS ~

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:   The citizen journalist movement took it on the chin again on Friday as false reports spread that Apple CEO Steve Jobs had a heart attack. The story, which caught fire via Twitter, Digg and other services and was picked up on news blogs such as Silicon Alley Insider, initiated from a user generated posting on CNN’s iReport site (whose tagline is “unedited, unfiltered news.”) Apple’s stock price, which has been trading down as of late due to market conditions, took a dive on the news, falling more than 10% before recovering after the phony report was refuted. The SEC has already contacted iReport seeking details about who uploaded the report – the second false report about Jobs’ health to circulate since August (when Bloomberg mistakenly published an obit of the Apple CEO.)   Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.

CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  Some details of the completed separation of Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks were issued yesterday afternoon.  As previously stated, David Geffen, a co-founder of DreamWorks who oversaw the transition for DreamWorks, will not be part of the new company.  Under the separation deal Steven Spielberg and Stacey Snider‘s new Reliance Big Entertainment backed movie company will take the lead on a number of development projects, which Paramount will have the option to co-finance and co-distribute.  All other projects that are currently in development will remain at Paramount, with the new studio having the opportunity to co-finance several projects to which Spielberg is attached.  Specific titles included under these first two points were not announced, which include kid/family titles, but are likely to be soon.  Additionally, Spielberg will continue to produce the Transformers franchise for Paramount as well as collaborating on three other Paramount movies including, When Worlds Collide.  A majority of the current DreamWorks staff is expected to be offered positions at the new Spielberg/Snider/Reliance company.  Full edition: CYN KIDS.

CYNOPSIS INTERNATIONAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  All3Media has teamed up with Patrick Scholtze to create White Smoke Media (WSM), a format corp to be co-run by Etienne de Jong.  The company, headquartered in the Netherlands’ Hilversum, will only focus on idea creation rather than production with All3Media gaining first-look rights to the format ideas.  The launch was back in March but the official debut has just recently occurred as WSM first focused on building a catalog with 10-12 projects now currently in development.  One of the first formats off the diving board is the family-focused comedy panel Family Connections program.    Full edition: CYN INTERNATIONAL.
