NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Director/producer/writer Sam Raimi‘s Ghost House Pictures expands to include the new Spooky Pictures banner that will produce scary family-targeted movies, per Variety.  The first Spooky Pictures title will be The Substitute, which is a remake of a Danish movie that will be directed by Scott Derrickson (The Exorcism o family Rose) and co-financed by Columbia Pictures, which has a first look deal with Spooky Pictures.  Derrickson is co-writing the script with Paul Harris Boardman, who co-penned Emily Rose with him.  Spooky plans to finance, develop and produce its family movies under Ghost House Pictures, which has a deal with Mandate Pictures.

Peace Arch Entertainment Group partners with producer Barnet Bain to acquire the movie rights to the kid’s book, Milton’s Secret: An Adventure of Discovery through Then, When, and the Power Of Now, by spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle and Robert S. Friedman.  The plan is to adapt the movie as a live-action family-aimed movie.
