HBO Entertainment produces the series.

The Style Network will debut a new show featuring a different take on the makeover genre called What I Hate About Me. The series, with ten one-hour episodes, will premiere January 2 at 9p and watch as women are challenged to deal with the ten things about their lives they loathe the most, be it relationship issues to out-of-control finances to a physical flaw. After revealing their ten biggest problems, each participant will face series host Lisa Arch and a rotating panel of experts who will offer advice on how to deal with these issues. The Style Network will also bring back the series Ruby in first quarter 2010, documenting the weight loss journey of Ruby Gettinger who previously weighed 716 pounds and now weighs 350 pounds.

Last Thursday’s series premiere of The Jeff Dunham Show on Comedy Central at 9p broke the network’s record for a series debut by posting a 2.6 rating among A18-49 and attracting 3.0 million A18-49 viewers as well as 5.3 million total viewers. And a nod to Soupy Sales who passed away at the age of 83 late Thursday night.  When I was 10, I was stuck at the JFK airport in New York with my mother for three days and two nights – a result of a massive snow storm.  We had the good fortune to spend the time in the American Airlines Admiral’s Club, in relative comfort, much different than most of the stranded who were in the main airport areas downstairs.  There were two celebrities also staying at the Admiral’s Club – Goldie Hawn, TV’s current IT girl on Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In, and Soupy Sales.  Goldie Hawn didn’t speak to anybody and clearly did not want to be spoken to, either. Soupy was wonderfully approachable, for both the adults and me.  He stayed awake for most of our 60 hour detention, spending the overnight hours downstairs putting on free standup shows for the throngs of people.  I liked him on his television show, because I was just a kid.  But I liked him better for what he did to make so many people’s uncomfortable predicament, altogether bearable, memorable and even fun.

~ PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT ~

Angie Harmon, familiar to TV audiences for her past leading roles on crime dramas Law & Order and Women’s Murder Club, takes on the lead character of TNT’s new pilot Rizzoli, based on the popular Jane Rizzoli mystery novels by Tess Gerritson. Warner Horizon Television is producing the pilot and Janet Tamaro (Bones, Lost) will write and executive produce along with Bill Haber’s Ostar Productions. Michael M. Robin will direct and also executive produce the pilot.

Benjamin Bratt reprises his former role as Detective Reynaldo Curtis in an upcoming episode on NBC’s Law & Order. Bratt was on the series as a regular for four seasons from 1995-1999 and most recently headlined the A&E Network series The Cleaner.

ABC is prepping an extreme weight loss docu-series, working with J.D. Roth, executive producer of NBC’s The Biggest Loser, cites THR. The show, tentatively titled Obese, will chronicle a different person’s story in each episode as cameras follow them over the course of a year. ABC ordered six one-hour episodes from 3 Ball Productions which will also sell the format to international markets. ABC is expected to launch the series in 2011.

Both Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Colin Egglesfield are departing The CW series Melrose Place as regulars next January. This news is not surprising to the two actors, as their characters were involved in the murder mystery plot line which will be resolved and the characters will move on.

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:   In another sign that the worst may be over on the tech front, Microsoft managed to beat earnings expectations on during FY Q1 – thanks mostly to layoffs and other cost-cutting measures. The company reported net income of $3.57 billion for the quarter ending Sept. 30 on total revenue of $12.92 billion, a 14% decline from a year ago. Sales of entertainment related devices (Xbox, etc.) were flat, totaling $1.9 billion. Meanwhile Amazon and Netflix enjoyed banner results last quarter.  Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.

CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  HandMade Films acquires Larry Schwarz’s NYC-based Animation Collective Group in a deal valued at a maximum of US$12 million, and has partnered with National Geographic Kids to launch the joint venture Handmade Kids TV.  Schwarz will remain the creative head of the Animation Collective Group for Handmade Kids and will also serve on the Handmade Kids board of directors.  Additionally the newly formed Handmade Kids inks a deal with the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson to adapt her books Tea for Ruby and the Little Red series as animated TV programs. The terms of this deal were not announced other than Ferguson will remain involved with her properties and will become a non-executive director of the Handmade Kids board. HandMade’s acquisition of Animation Collective is subject to profit performance over a three-year period. HandMade is set to release its CGI animated feature film Planet 51 in the US next month, which Sony is distributing.  Production on its movie Eloise in Paris, featuring Uma Thurman, is set to begin pre-production soon, with an additional six movies planned for release over the next two years.  Full edition: CYN KIDS.
