Arthur the aardvark teams with Lance Armstrong for a special two-part episode of Arthur that focuses on helping kids cope when someone they know has cancer, which premieres today on PBS Kids Go! (check local listings). The Arthur two-parter, The Great MacGrady, revolves around news that the school’s beloved lunch lady Mrs. MacGrady is diagnosed with cancer, and how Arthur and the others react in different ways. The Great MacGrady will air each weekday this week on PBS Kids Go!

Disney Channel picks up a third season of the series The Suite Life on Deck, with production on the new episodes is set to begin in early 2010. The new season of the series is being executive produced by Pamela Eels O’Connell (Family Matters) and Irene Dreayer (Sister, Sister, Smart Guy). The Suite Life on Deck is produced by It’s A Laugh Productions for Disney Channel.
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, Charles M. Schulz’s 1966 Halloween-themed half-hour Peanuts special, will air twice this month on ABC. The holiday special, coupled with the Peanuts special You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown, will air Tuesday, October 27, 8-9p. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown will air on its own the following night Wednesday, October 28 at 8p on ABC.
Nickelodeon Australia name Joel ad Benji Madden, from the band Good Charlotte, as co-hosts for the 7th Annual Australian Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. The twin Madden brothers join the recently announced host, Delta Goodrem, for this year’s show that will be held Friday, November 13 at Hisense Arena in Melbourne and air on Nick at 7p.
BBC Worldwide Channels Asia expands its channel line-up under a new distribution deal with pay-TV operator Hong Kong Cable. Under the agreement, four BBC-branded channels will bow on Hong Kong Cable this year, beginning with BBC Knowledge on October 29, and followed by CBeebies, BBC Entertainment and BBC Lifestyle by years end. BBC World New is already available on the platform.
Odyssey Entertainment, a division of media/marketing company Odyssey Pictures Corporation, has acquired the licensing/distribution rights to 31 hours of animated kid’s content from France-based Dominique Paul Mougenot (DPM). Under the deal Odyssey picks up the rights to animated short-form programming including Superman, Popeye, Casper, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck as well as holiday-centric titles such as the Paramount Studio produced 1939 animated movie Gulliver’s Travels (1×75). Odyssey will digitize its programming library and re-distribute it across multiple platforms, including satellite and IPTV digital broadcasting.

Scholastic Media launches two new iPhone and iPod touch apps ($2-4) in time for Halloween: I Spy Spooky Mansion takes users on a scary adventure where they must solve I Spy riddles/puzzles in order to collect keys and find their way out of the mansion; Goosebumps PhotoShock is an app aimed at K8+ that lets users alter their photos into scary Goosebumps pictures, with the help of 9o+ creepy icons, objects and frames.
Nickelodeon & Viacom Consumer Products (NVCP) and Germany’s Bike Fashion Vertriebs ink a two-year extension to their existing SpongeBob SquarePants branded bike and accessories deal. Bicycles, helmets, bells, gloves and baskets, among other products, will continue to be available from Toys R Us, Vedes, MyToys, Hoffmann Company, ZEG and Hartje, across Austria, Germany and Switzerland

The National Football League (NFL) and National Dairy Council (NDC) have teamed up to launch Fuel Up to Play 60, a new effort to fight against childhood obesity. Designed give kids a say in altering school nutrition and increasing physical activity, the new program will reach 60,000 elementary, middle and high schools in the current school year. The goal of the program is to get kids/teens to work with their school administrators to create more opportunities for 60 minutes a day of physical activity and to offer healthier foods.
