HEROES will soon become a graphic novel, thanks to a partnership between exec producer/creator Tim Kring, Universal Studio Consumer Products Group and UK publisher Titan Books. The books is expected out in the UK on November 23rd, and is written by Kring along with Michael Turner and Phil Jimenez.

The Wall Street Journal reports Discovery Channel will announce today its purchase of HowStuffWorks .com for $250 million.  The site is already well spiced with the Discovery Channel logo and messaging. Along with the site comes a variety of digital properties.  Owners of the site include investor Carl Icahn, and was founded in 1998 by Marshall Brain.  Discovery’s CEO David Zaslav allows Discovery is “way behind in new media and digital” and plans to use the site to give the group a quick leg up.  HowStuffWorks will quickly be incorporated into Discovery programming.

Nielsen Media Research launched DemoWatch, a new feature of its web-based commercial tracking service KeepingTrac that will enable advertisers to monitor demographic composition of their advertising audiences. DemoWatch links the demographic information from Nielsen’s overnight ratings with the commercial monitoring ability of KeepingTrac to help advertisers and their agencies make sure their television commercials reach the intended audience.

~  PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

A&E’s drama project The Beast from Sony Pictures TV has satisfied its cast contingent requirement with the signing of Patrick Swayze in the lead role of an FBI agent training a new recruit and dealing with a secret Internal Affairs team at the same time.  In the role of the young recruit is Travis Fimmel. Production is expected to begin later this year.

The Fox drama pilot The Return of Jezebel James starring Parker Posey has had its episode order cut from 13 down to 7, with a statement saying 7 episodes are all that’s needed for a show launching in mid-season.

Showing up at a network pitch meeting near you — Hitch the sitcom, with Will Smith as Exec Producer. While Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment will produce, he is not expected to appear in the project.
