Bill Bresnan, 75, considered a cable pioneer as well as the Founder/Chairman of Bresnan Communications, died on Friday at his home in Greenwich, CT. Bill was one of the cable industry’s leaders in many technological advancements including developing the first domestic satellite transmission and the first fiber optic communications system in the US. Throughout his career, he won numerous awards within the cable industry and was inducted into the Cable Television Hall of Fame and the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame. Bill also was a member of various boards of directors such as the National Cable & Telecommunications Association, The Cable Center, C-SPAN, Cable Television Laboratories and Cable TV Pioneers. He is survived by his current wife Ann Lessing Bresnan and her five children. He had six children and eleven grandchildren from his prior marriage of 43 years to Barbara Boettcher Bresnan who died 43 years ago. A memorial service for Bill will be at St. Mary’s Church in Greenwich this Wednesday at 11a and the wake will be Monday and Tuesday from 4-8p at the Leo P. Gallagher & Sons funeral home in Greenwich. Instead of flowers, the family respectfully requests a donation be made to the Ann and Bill Bresnan Foundation which, among other things, will continue to fund research into the rare form of cancer that afflicted Bill.
